2009 CHRISTMAS PARTY

On Friday night of December 18, 2009 District 43 held thier annual Christmas Party.  The party lasted to the wee hours of the night and a great time was held by all.  AND no incidents interupted this years party TOO!

SPECIAL TRAINNG SEMINAR

On Monday - December 14, 2009 at 19:00Hrs at Station 43.  A Three hour seminar on RESPONSE TO CO INCIDENTS. was presented by Chief Robert Ward, West Hazleton FD.  A number of fire fighters and fire officials from District 43, Shenandoah, Brandonville and Mahanoy City attended the seminar.

DECEMBER 2009 RECENT INCIDENTS

12-24-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 07:49 hours Engine 43-10 responded to Dead Man's Curve, Route 61 Saint Clair Grade, Blythe Township for an vehicle accident.  The crew found one vehicle on the roadway which hit the guide rails.  Patient was out of the vehicle and refused EMS.  Engine 43-10 remained on the scene and assist PSP with traffic control.

12-21-2009 VEHICLE FIRE

District 43 was dispatched to the Schulykill Mall for a vehicle fire with Altamont, Englewood, and New Castle Twp.  Engine 43-15 arrived with a crew with 3 and advanced one hose line.  Engine 367 arrived and advanced a second hose line.  Engine 368 and Engine 369 arrived and assisted with over haul.  Vehicle was total loss.

12-20-2009 FIRE ALARM

Fire district 43 responded 101 E Chestnut St. at 20:19 hours for an automatic fire alarm.  District 43 units and found burnt food.  The apartment was vented naturally.

12-20-2009 SMOKE IN STRUCTURE

Ladder 43-20 and Engine 43-15 responded to 514 W Spring St. at 05:45 hours for smoke in the structure.  Engine 369 and Ladder 43-20 found a small fire in the floor of the residence caused by a coal stove.  Crew extinguished the fire, air monitored, and vented the home.  Crews then went available.

12-19-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Engine 43-10 responded to the St Clair Grade for a vehicle on its roof during the snow storm.  The engine crew found no injuries and provide traffic control and cleared the scene.

12-19-2009 ROW HOME FIRE

Ladder 43-20 and Engine 43-15 responded to 616 E Pine St. in Mahanoy City for a row home fire.  District 43 crews assisted District 48 with overhaul in the fire buildings.

12-18-2009 VEHICLE FIRE

At 02:00 hours District 43 responded with 369, 367, 17, and 704 to McDonalds at the Schuylkill Mall for a working vehicle fire.  Engine 43-10 and 43-15 was first on scene and extinguished the fire.

12-14-2009 HOUSE FIRE

At 15:30 hour District 43 and mutual aid 1st Alarm units were dispatched 10 S 2nd St. for a house.  EMA 43 and Frackville Police was already on scene prior to dispatched investigating smoke from a chimney (site of the early incident).  The incident was held to Ladder 43-20 and Engine 43-10.  The house was investigated and found a problem with furnace.  Air monitoring was conducted and arge amount CO was found in the home.  The home was vented and all units cleared.

12-14-2009 CHIEFS INVESTIGATION

At 10:30 hours Chief 43 and Chief 43-01 investigated smoke from a chimney at 10 South 2nd Street.  The Chiefs were unable to find smoke or investigate the home.  Chiefs cleared the incidents. 

12-13-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDET

Engine 43-10 responded at 10:15 hours to exit 124 to assist Engine 367 and Engine 368 with traffic control.  A multiple vehicle accident involving tractor trailers blocked the Saint Clair exit.

12-13-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 09:00 Chief 43 responded to a minor vehicle accident at Lehigh Avenue and Oak Street in Frackville.  Chief 43 and other District 43 officers provide traffic control at Lehigh Ave and Catawissa Street.  Route 924 was closed due icy conditions.  Engine 43-15 was busy a accident on Interstate 81. 

12-13-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 08:30 hours responded to a vehicle accident at mile marker 113 Interstate 81 for a vehicle accident with no injuries.  Engine 43-10 found a small car that slide off the icy roadway in a ditch. 

12-12-2009 FIRE REPORTED OUT

At 10:10 hours District 43 responded to a fire reported out at 10 South Mahanoy Street.  District 43 units investigated the incident and found a self cleaning oven in cleaning mode.  All units cleared shortly.

12-08-2009 ACCIDENT w/ FIRE

At 04:50 hours Engine 43-10 and Engine 369 responded to a vehicle accident involving a mini van and tractor trailer on Interste 81 at mile marker 117 north bound in Butler Township.  Engine 43-10 arrived first and found the mini van on fire.  One hose line was advanced from Engine 43-10 and the fire was knocked down.  Engine 369 advanced a second hose line and over hauled the vehicle.  Minersille EMS transported the driver to a local hospital.  The engines remained on the scene for over an hour until the vehicles were removed.

12-4-2009 LANDING ZONE OPS

At 11:15 hours Chief 43 and Engine 43-15 responded to the Schuylkill Mall to set up a landing zone for MedEVac 7.  Chief 43 was landing zone officer and Driver Barrett assisted the EMS crew.

12-2-2009 TRANSFER ASSIGNMENT

At 12:00 hours Engine 43-15 responded and stood by at the American Hose Fire Company in Ashland.  Ashland fire fighters and other county departments were operating at a multiple building fire in Ashland.  The engine returned back to station before 15:00 hours.

11-30-2009 FIRE INVESTIGATION

At 11:00 hours Engine 43-10 responded to 65 N Lehigh Avenue to assist Chief 43 and the PSP fire investigator.  The engine crew assisted the investigators while they did the  investigation of the cause of the fire. The engine and crew returned back to station at 13:00 hours.

11-30-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

 

At 07:00 hours Fire District 43, Englewood, and Frackville EMS responded to mm 120 Interstate 81 in Butler Township for an accident.  Units found one van on its side with one injury.  Engine 43-10 assisted EMS and investigated the vehicle for hazards.

11-28-2009 RE-KINDLE FIRE

At 19:30 hours District 43, Englewood, and Altamont responded back to 65 N Lehigh Ave for a re-kindle fire in the buildings roof.  Chief 43 requested Tower 456 respond to the scene and assist with the needed overhaul.  Unit remained on the scene till 21:00 hours.

11-28-2009 BUILDING FIRE

At 14:40 hours Fire District 43 responded to a apartment building fire at 65 N Lehigh Avenue in Frackville.

11-24-2009 CO INVESTIGATION

Fire District 43 was dispatched 122 South Second Street for a CO Investigation.  Ladder 43-20 responded and investigated the home for Carbon Monoxide. 

11-20-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 10:54 hour Fire District 43, Englewood Fire Company and Frackville Ambulance were dispatched to mile marker 119 south bound Interstate 81 in Butler Township for an accident with unknown injuries.  Ambulance 43-01 arrived and found a minor two vehicle accident with no injuries.  Engine 43-10 cancelled on the scene.

11-17-2009 FIRE ALARM

At 06:46 hours Engine 43-15, Squad 363 and the Altamont Fire Company engines responded to 2 Starter Drive, Wagner Industries for a fire alarm.  Chief 368 arrived on scene, assumed command and held the incident to his company. 

11-15-2009 FIRE ALARM

At 08:10 hours Ladder 43-20 and Engine 43-15 responded along with the Englewood, Fountain Springs, Lavelle and Gordon Fire Companies to the Walmart Distribution Center at Highridge for a fire alarm.  Chief 04-05 arrived and confirmed a false activation and recalled all units.

11-12-2009 ACCIDENT W/ ENTRAPMENT

Fire District 43, Frackville, Shenandoah EMS and Altamont fire company were dipatched to Exit 124 Interstate 81for an accident involving a tractor trailer and an automobile.  C368 assumed incident command.  One car was in the Nort Bound lane with 1 patient  entrapped in the driver seat.  District 43 and Altamont crews used cutters and rams to extricate the patient.  The tractor trailer involved continued north on Interstate 81 and crossed the median into South Bound Lane and hit guardrails.  The patient from car was flown from Schuylkill Mall and driver of the tractor trailer was transported by ground to hospital.  Englewood Engine 369 and 17-60 assumed the landing zone.  Both lanes of the Interstate 81 were closed until vehicles were removed.  Mahanoy City and Ryan Township units provided traffic control on the Interstate.

11-12-2009 HOUSE FIRE

Reported house fire at 336 W Spring Street at18:31 hrs.  Chief 43-01 on scene confirming the coils in a bathroom heater had failed and casued the sparks from the heating unit.  Held incident to 43-20 to check bathroom with TIC.

11-12-2009 CHIEFS INVESTIGATION

Chief 43-01 responded with Squad 363 to mile marker 123.5 south bound Interstate 81 to check on smoke coming from a vehicle.  The units found a vehicle with a radiator steam leak and went available.

11-08-2009 ATV ACCIDENT

At 17:47 hours Fire Distric 43, Englewood Fire, Frackville EMS and Shenandoah ALS were dispatched mile marker 119 south bound for a ATV accident with injury.  Engine 43-10 arrived and found a young female who fell off a four wheel in the wooded area.  The engine crew assisted the EMS crew in packaging the patient and moving her to the ambulance. 

11-06-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 23:49 hours District 43 and Minersville EMS were dispatched to mile marker 114 north bound Interstate 81 for a vehicle accident.  Engine 43-10 arrived and a vehicle on its roof with all occupants self extricated.  The engine's EMT evaluated and treated the injured before Ambulance 52-01 arrived.  The engine crew assisted the Ambulance crew and stood by until the vehicle was removed by the tow truck.

10-30-2009 TRUCK FIRE

At 16:00 hours the Frackville-Goodwill, New Castle-Wadesville, Altamont, Englewood Fire Companies were dispatched to MM 123 SouthBound Interstate 81 for a tractor trailer fire.  Engines 43-15and 43-10 arrived on scene and found a truck with a blown turbo.  No fire was found and all units were cancelled.

10-28-2009 COMMERCIAL FIREALARM

At 09:00 hour Fire District 43, Englewood, and Altamont Fire Companies were dispatched 500 West Laurel St. for a commercial fire alarm.  Ladder 43-20 responded with a full crew and found the call to be a false alarm.  The facilty staff was testing the system.  All units were canceled shortly.

10-26-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 23:05 hours Distrct 43, Englewood, Altamont, Frackville BLS, and Shenandoah ALS were dispatched to the Frackville-St. Clair Grade Southbound (area of deadmans curve) for a vehicle accident with injury.  Engine 43-10 arrived first and found a one pick up truck off the road with minor front end damage.  The driver was out and had a minor shoulder injury but refused treatment.  Engine 43-10 provided lighting and traffic control at the scene.  State police then released all units.

10-26-2009 SCHOOL FIRE

At 09:00 hour Ladder 43-20 was dispatched to the Mahanoy City High School for smoke in the structure.  Prior to pulling out of the station the ladder was cancelled. 

10-25-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 20:49 hours Fire District 43 and Pottsville Yorkville rescue 63 were dispatched to MM 114 South Bound lane Interstate 81 for a vehicle accident with entrapment.  Engine 43-10, Engine 43-15 and Pottsville Chief 5 arrived on scene and found a two vehicle accident.  The occupants were all out of the vehicle and Rescue 63 was cancelled.  None of the occupants were hurt and refused treatment.  District 43 provided traffic control and cleaned up the debris.  

FOOTBALL BON FIRE 10-25-2009

At 19:30 hours Goodwill Engine 43-10 and 43-15 stood by at a bon fire at the Frackville Memorial Field.  The bon fire was conducted to support the Frackville Area Youth Footbal program.  The two units had to leave during clean up for an accident on Interstate 81.

HALLOWEEN PARADE 10-25-2009

At 14:00 hours the Goodwill Fire Company took part in the Frackville Borough Halloween Parade.  Goodwill and Englewood fire units led up the rear of the parade.

10-24-2009 MEDICAL ASSIST

At 19:05 hours Fire District 43 was dispatched to 224 North Nice St. in Frackville to assist the Frackville Ambulance with lifting.  A number of personnel responded by POV and assisted the Ambulance Crew.  District 43 personnel were in service in 15 minutes. 

10-19-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

On 10-19-2009 at 13-20 hours the Frackville-Goodwill, Englewood, Altamont, New Castle, Saint Clair Fire Companies and Frackville Ambulance was dispatched to a vehicle accident at MM 123 south bound on Interstate 81.  Dispatcher reported that one vehicle ran into the rear of a tractor trailer.  A second report states there is one injury.  State Police arrived on scene and canceled all fire units.  Engine 43-10 went available.

10-18-2009 VEHICLE FIRE

On 10-18-2009 at 15:45 Goodwill-Frackville, Englewood, and Altamont Fire Companies responded to MM 119 Interstate 81 South Bound  for a vehicle fire.  Engine arrived first and found a disabled pickup truck at MM 119 North Bound.  No fire and all units were placed availble.

10-16-2009 SMOKE IN STRUCTURE

Goodwill Ladder 43-20 was dispatched at 15:00 hours to 535 W Pine Street Mahanoy City with the Mahanoy City Fire Dept. Ambulance, and Altamont RIT Team for smoke in the structure.  Mahanoy City Units arrived and found a smoking fuse box in the basement and handled the incident.  Ladder 43-20 was canceled before responding.

10-15-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

Goodwill Engine 43-10 responded to two vehicle accidents on Interstate 81 during snowy weather and slippery road conditions.  The first accident was 13:30 hours and at the mm 118 I-81 with unknown injuries. One vehicle was found off the road with no injuries.  The second accident occured 15:00 hours and at the mm 120 I-81 involving unknown injuries.  One vehicle was found into the guardrails.  The engine crew disconnected the battery.  The two accidents involved vehicles that slid off the roadway.  Goodwill units were placed available and returned to service. 

10-15-2009 BUILDING FIRE

At 09:10 hrs. Citizens & Humane Fire Co's were dispatched to 1 W. Centre st. for smoke in a commercial building. Chief 455 (Fowler) arrived on scene and confirmed smoke on the second floor and requested a full 1st alarm assignment.  Ladder 43-20 set up on the A/D corner of the building. Crews checked the building and found the cause to be a malfunctioning heating unit.  1 hour. Other units on scene E451,E465,E462,T461,R993,4870,L4320 & E367 Rit.

10-14-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Frackville-Goodwill, Altamont, Englewood, Frackville Ambulance was dispatched 07:30 to Route 61 Frackville-St Clair Grade for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Engine 43-10 arrived on scene and found State Police with a minor accident with no injuries.  State Police informed all units they can canceled.

10-13-2009 VEHICLE ACCIDENT

October 13th at 07:53 hours at mile marker 121 Interstate 81 north bound.  Vehicle accident with multiple roll over with no injuries.  Engine 43-10 and Engine 43-15 took in the call.

COW CHIP BINGO 10-10-2009

Cow chip BINGO which was held at the Frackvill Elks on October 10, 2009.
