Kimbley's Past

((A one shot about Kimmy's past and how he became the feared Crimson Alchemist.))

Kimbley’s Past

Zolf smiled to himself as he looked at the ceiling of his prison cell, his yellow eyes devoid of any emotion. He was too lost in his memories of what had turned him into the psychotic Crimson Alchemist that he is today.

He was never a very loved child, doomed to be loathed from the day he was born. From the very time his parents saw he had those piercing yellow eyes. Those yellow, wolf-like eyes that caused hatred and shame to emanate from his parents. The fact that he never did grow any muscle didn’t help. After all, his parents were both hardworking farmers, even his brother rivaled Armstrong in strength and power.

He frowned and rolled over, remembering multiple incidents where he was pelted with stones as he walked home from school. He was always teased and made-fun of by the other children for his fascination with alchemy.

He loved it when the alchemists would come into town. It was a rare event, which only made it better. He loved watching them as they repaired the broken farm equipment, the tractors, the shovels, the rakes, everything and anything or so it seemed. It was like magic to the small boy.

But his parents resented it. They thought everything had to be earned out of hard work, no /alchemy/. The mere word was banned in the Kimbley household, which only made Zolf dive deeper into depression.

The only things that kept him from going over the deep end were his pet rabbits, Cinnamon and Gizmo. Whenever he got home from school he’d immediately go to their cage and start talking to them. He loved their soft fur under his fingertips, which was his favorite part about owning the rabbits. They were so fluffy, and they never treated him like a monster. No matter how often they saw his eyes, they didn’t yell or pelt him with rocks. They were calm and sweet, never panicking when he got close, just calm and loving.

But then…tragedy struck. He came home one day and Cinnamon and Gizmo weren’t there. Nothing was there. Their cage, their food, everything was gone. He never did find out what happened to them. His parents just replied that he was too old to be talking to rabbits.

After that he kept to himself. Avoiding everyone, growing colder and colder. It got to such a point that he refused to come out even to see the alchemists when they came into town. Then he met /her/.

The only girl that had ever accepted him. He had long since forgotten her name. Cheryl or Kathryn or something like that. She had convinced him to go deeper into his study of alchemy. So he did.

You could say she was his first true love, behind alchemy. She encouraged him and treated him like a human. She thought his eyes were beautiful, in that wild, untamed nature. She was like the rabbits, none judging and very loving. But like everything in Zolf’s life she, too, left. Finding that muscular, strong men who actually have a sturdy business in farming were better than scrawny alchemists who could barely transmute a rock into a statue. But that only pressed him onwards.

He was knocked out of his reminiscing when the door of his cell opened and guards came in to take him to the firing squad.

He growled and glared at the two hulking guards as he got up. Those fools only charged him for the murder of five officers, they didn’t care about the numerous civilians he had killed.

She was first. That stupid girl that ran off with his brother. That was fun. He thought she made a beautiful explosion, as most everyone did. Then he killed some other boys from his village. They all deserved to die for what they did to poor Zolf. Torturing him until his heart turned cold as ice.

If only he still had his rabbits…
