We try to ensure that dogs are not over worked and that every dog and handler gets equal time training. The cost of a session is £2.50 The key factor is enjoyment - for both people and dogs! We don’t believe in rushing either dog or handler or pushing them beyond their capabilities.
You are welcome to come along for a trial training session without charge or obligation. Team members are always on hand to help out and offer advice. You can become as involved as you want to. We have those who just come and train for a bit of fun and those who attend every competition.
Although the majority of dogs that are seen competing in flyball are Border Collies / Working Sheep Dogs, we actively encourage owners of other breeds and crossbreeds to take part in the sport.
Flyball is a dog/handler team-sport. With additional training given if necessary, it is essential that your dog is sociable with other dogs and people participating in flyball events.
Initially, just bring yourself, your dog, a lead and a few small treats.
In the early days of your training don't expect your dog to do all the running!
Your dog needs to wear a close fitting collar or harness.
You need to wear a smile – flyball is fun!
Always check your mobile phone before leaving home for a training session – we will text you should a session be cancelled because of adverse weather or any other reason. Training will not take place on a Friday if there is a competition the next day, Saturday, and/or on the Sunday.
Serious stuff
After your initial ‘free’ visit, if you decide that training with the Four Counties Flyballers is for you, each one hour dog / handler training session will cost £2.50 Should you know that you will be unable to attend a scheduled session, please let us know.
In order to maintain a 'Club' status there is an initial joining fee of £5 and, thereafter, an annual subscription, currently £5, payable 1st January each year.
All our trainers are volunteers and give up their time to train other people and their dogs, sometimes missing out on training their own dogs to do so.
You are responsible for the behaviour of your dog and expected to clear up after it. Poo bags and their contents must be taken home with you.
Four Counties Flyballers appointed trainers and team captains reserve the right to refuse to train any dog or person or to exclude them from the racing lane at a tournament if it is deemed that that dog or person’s behaviour is inappropriate in any way.
