Attaching the Leader to your Fly line –
1) If your fly line already has a loop built into its tip, great! Just attach the thickest end of the furled leader directly to your fly line using a loop-to-loop connection.
2) If your fly line does NOT already have a loop built into its tip –
a. If there is already a leader connected to your fly line, clip the old leader off about 15 inches down from the tip of the line, tie a double surgeon loop knot to the end of the clipped leader and use a loop-to-loop connection to attach the furled leader to the loop you just created.
b. If you do not already have an old leader connected to your fly line, attach a 15-inch long piece of #25 - #30 leader material to the end of your fly line using a nail knot (pictured below). Once the leader material has been attached using a nail knot, tie a double surgeon loop knot to the other end and attach the furled leader using a loop-to-loop connection.
Attaching the Tippet to your Furled Leader –
Attach a 3 to 5-foot piece of tippet material to the fine end of the furled leader by tying a double surgeon loop to the end of the tippet material and using a loop-to-loop connection to the furled leader. Of course the other end of the tippet will be attached to your fly.
You are all set to go and catch some fish. Have fun!
