Article on Heart Operation conducted on a Two years old boy

With the Grace and Blessings of our Dear Swami, the Fort Samiti of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, Mumbai, had a unique seva opportunity this month. During our regular hospital visits, at St. George's Hospital, last year, we had come upon a case of a one year old child - Saurabh Gaikwad, who was suffering from a heart disorder - TOF, which is TETRALOGY OF FALLOT. As the name tetralogy implies, there are FOUR abnormalities combined together in this complex heart defect. TOF is also commonly called the "BLUE-BABY" disease. The only solution for the child was an operation to correct the TOF.

Saurabh was born with this abnormality and has a widowed mother. The family is economically very poor. Last year, during June 2005, we had sent the child to The Super Specialty Hospital, Puttaparti alongwith his mother and one of our volunteers, for being operated. However, since it was not an urgent case then, the child was not operated.

However, this year, during May 2006, the doctors who were treating Saurabh at St George's Hospital advised us that the child is turning 'blue' and that he has visible cyanosis and they requested us to expedite the operation of this child.

This is when the volunteers managed to check with various hospitals in Mumbai and to collect the funds for the child's operation. With Swami's Grace and Blessings, we managed to get the requisite funds and got the child's case registered at KEM Hospital, Parel. We sought an appointment with Heart Surgeon - Dr. Khandeparkar and accordingly got the child operated on 10th July 2006. The operation was successful and within a day's time, the child was shifted to the general Ward from the ICU. The photos of Saurabh are attached to this email.

Saurabh is now discharged from the hospital, but is under medication and post operative care, which is also being monitored by the Fort Samiti volunteers.

Swami's Leelas are unfathomable !!! We must accept that we have been novice in this field. We never had any prior experience of liasing for any heart operation especially for a child of two years.. However by following Swami's directions, have managed to come this far. It is truly that our dear Sai, has guided us throughout and shown us the right approach and helped us find the right contacts at every stage.. and finally in making it a success.
