Toby Haslinger managed to spare time from his hectic job to win two games for us in the third division.

Stewart Haslinger played his first games for the club for a long time, and his excellent season has resulted in the achievement of his Grandmaster title.  Stewart made his full international team debut playing for England recently and has had some excellent tournament results.

For anyone interested there are details of all the results for each of the 3 10 board matches and pictures on this Norwegian site http://www.bergensjakk.no/four_nations_2008/

Bob Platt last year’s Club Champion, continues as First team and John Ripley captain.  Thanks for all your hard work Bob.

Peter Pope has joined us and is settling in the Warrington League side.

Andrew Smith was successful in completing his PhD and is now working for Corus in Redcar, and playing for Redcar in the Cleveland LeagueAndy has supplied a very brief progress report and a game for the website (available shortly).  He is currently playing on board 2 for Redcar A in division 1 of the Cleveland League. Matches in the top flight are played over 6 boards, which is a little different to what he is used to... wins obviously
have a bigger impact than in an 8-board match, but then losing puts your team under more pressure too! At the half way stage Redcar A are 2nd out of 8 teams in the league with a record of won 4, lost 2, drawn 0, and are through to the second round of the cup. He is pleased to report that he is unbeaten so far (+5 =2 -0) and has 100% with White, although he says that the results flatter the standard of his play, being able to squirm off the hook a few times!  Keep up the good work Andy and thanks for the report.

Paul Sutton has taken on the mantle of third team captain, we all wish you well in this role Paul.  Let’s push on to promotion!

Dave Taylor is enjoying a reasonably good season.

John Turner has taken on the task of Warrington League captain, we all wish you well in this role John.

Dave Williams showed everybody what he is capable of with excellent wins over John Carleton and John Redmond, and his 50% score in the Wirral League.  Dave has kindly submitted his game against John Carleton for publication, it should be in the games section shortly.

Ken Wilkinson is not currently in good health, and we all wish him well for a full recovery.

Pete Willoughby is still Warrington League Secretary and captain of the Kalmar Cup/ Shield sides.

Allan Worthington is doing a splendid job as secretary, and manages to get a few games in as well.

If you would like to share any news about yourself whether related to chess or not, this is the place to do it.  Don’t be shy we all want to know about those achievements.
