Mooching Beyond Closed Doors

Penallta Colliery

Visit by Turk, Dweeb and Raddog.

Penallta Colliery was a long term aim for us to go and see, and after some research we found the location and off we went. It was a long journey all the way down the M5 down to south wales, it was also going to be a trip to see the "brackla storage areas" but Penallta was the prime target.

This place is superb, the bath house has been smashed up a fair bit, but still holds huge character, the winding house is do-able with a little ingenuity and also 1 headstock is climable. This means that we spent a good few hours here, and enjoyed photographing the place.

here's the pictures...

Lost Industry...

When are they coming back...

Stripped to a shell...

Colliery Life in a Nutshell...

Peeling paintwork...

Atmospheric stairwell...

Doorway to the dole...

Once hung here...

Such a sad sight...

The last turn, ever...

Light shining through...

The BathHouse...

High Hopes...

The winding wheels...

The Winding House exterior...

Top of the world...

History forgotten, rusting away...

Penallta was my favourite colliey explore, purely for the features. A definate trip-worthy site, and should be seen before its demolished...
