Mooching Beyond Closed Doors

High Royds Lunatic Asylum (Menston) Leeds

Visited by Turk & Dweeb.

After doing many derelict hospitals and asylums before hand, I have to be honest and say, that my hopes were not high for High Royds. It had been used for a TV show and it had been a building site for some time, so we were expecting a stripped out shell.

After an initial visit by Dweeb, we both headed back to get some better photographs and to get into the huge clock that adorns the tower. This was to be a fun trip. After walking through the undergrowth, and then blatantly walking through the workers, we found our way in. This was was awesome, seriously awesome!

First we hit the main hall, which was like a grand old lady of halls, really atmospheric with fireplaces at each corner. We then headed for admin and the tower which had yet to be conquered. This was a fantastic peice of architecture and we eventually found our way into the huge workings and faces of the clock. This was awesome too!

After this, we walked a few of the wards, the horrible modernised chapel, and the mortuary. All in all, a great days explore!
