F O R Animals
Friends of Rocky Mount Animals, Inc.

F.O.R. Animals

F.O.R. Animals works in conjunction with the Rocky Mount, NC city animal shelter and is an independent non-profit organization.  We are not paid for our efforts by the animal shelter or the city and rely solely on donations from the public.  The city animal shelter takes in an average of 2,500 animals annually.  An average of 26% of these pets were reclaimed, rescued or adopted.  Very few of the animals have been spayed or neutered prior to entering the City of Rocky Mount Animal Control shelter which contributes greatly to the number of unwanted animals.

In October 2002, F.O.R. Animals was formed.  Members began reaching out to rescue groups in other parts of the country in an effort to find loving homes for the animal shelter's unwanted pets.

F.O.R. Animals set a goal to save 1000 of the shelter's animals in 2003.  That goal was surpassed on December 12, 2003 with 1049 animals being either rescued, reclaimed or adopted.  The current percentage of animals being either rescued, reclaimed or adopted is approximately 50%.  What makes this extraordinary is that all these animals make it to their designated rescues on a "transport train" made up of volunteers living up the east coast.  Most of these people have never met each other, pay highway tolls and drive 100+ miles every weekend.  All of the animals have made it to their destinations safely every time.  Rarely has a transport been cancelled due to a lack of drivers.

In Partnership with

Rocky Mount Animal Control

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...

the castoffs of human society,

I saw in their eyes love and hope

fear and dread, sadness and betrayal,

and I was angry.

"God" I said,

"This is terrible!  Why don't you do something?"

God was silent for a moment and then spoke softly,

"I have done something"

was the reply,

"I created you"

Ceasar's Fund

Ceasar was hit by a car and left for dead. The animal control officers responded to the call and found a very injured animal, the dog had a rabies tag on so they tracked down the owner only to find out she could no longer care for the dog. Fortunately for Ceasar, a volunteer of ours was at the shelter at the time of his arrival. She hung around to find out if they were going to be able to get him help. Once the owner turned the dog over to the shelter, our volunteer knew he would be euthanized, so she took him straight to the vet's office in the hope of helping him. Once the vet had a chance to evaluate Ceasar, they found three fractures on his pelvis. He might have permanent damage to his one hind leg - since no one is sure when the accident actually occured and then the time from that to the time the medical evaluation took place there was some swelling so we are waiting patiently for the body to heal what it can on it's own. With a month of complete crate rest, anti inflamatories and pain meds we will give the body every opportunity to recover. We waited the first few days for him to drink, then eat and eventually have complete use of his bodily functions. Now we just have to sit and wait for his fractures to heal and his leg to come back. If his leg doesn't come back, then the choice has to be made to amputate it. During all of this ordeal he had a great temperment and personality - we have slowly done what we can for him allowing his body to adjust to each step without adding too much stress on him. He seems like a real fighter and deserves the chance.

Please use the paypal link below, your donation will be marked "Special Medical Fund" and he will send a big doggie kiss your way to thank you.

Donations can be sent securely through paypal:
