Top Five Most Overrated Players
Which players get way too much hype?
5.) Joseph Addai- RB Indianapolis Colts
- This one was hard to put, considering Addai is a key part of my dynasty fantasy football league, but I really haven’t seen much production out of Joseph to consider him a top five running back, which I see many people do. He has barely cracked the 1000 yard mark in his first two seasons, and really hasn’t had that break out year yet. That production can also be credited a lot to Peyton Manning and his ability to make changes at the line, and even more credit could be to the all star offensive line in front of him. Now I’m not saying Addai is bad, I am just stating people better reconsider before listing him as a top NFL back. He definably has the potential to become one, but apparently the time isn’t there yet. However, I do feel 2008 will be the year Joseph will shut me up and have a career year.
4.) Donte’ Stallw
orth- WR Cleveland Browns
- What has this man ever done in his career? Everywhere he goes he seems to turn out a huge disappointment. He was a huge bust for the New Orleans Saints when they drafted him the first round, he never turned out to be a true number one in Philadelphia, and he couldn’t even succeed with one of the best offenses of last time last season, eventually getting replaced by Jabar Gaffney mid-season in New England. To prove my point, in his six year career, he hasn’t even cracked 1000 yards or 10 touchdowns in a season. The Browns added him this off-season in hope he will draw some coverage off wide receiver Braylon Edwards, but they will soon learn it was a waste of money hoping Stallworth would give them any high production.
3.) Ken Hamlin- FS Dallas Cowboys
- Sure he can hit, but Dallas Cowboy free safety Ken Hamlin really struggles when it comes to covering. He made the Pro Bowl last season, but a lot can be credited for having a star on his helmet. However, it was well enough to earn himself a six-year 39 million dollar contract. Him and Roy Williams opearate the safety spots, and they’re a huge reason the Cowboys were beat through the air late last season, leading to their eventual downfall to the Giants in the NFC Divisional round. The Cowboys would be wise to draft some depth behind them, but there is no doubt Hamlin is a very intimidating player. However, being a safety you need more traits than just hitting.
2.) Reggie
Bush- RB New Orleans Saints
- Ah, the God known as Reggie Bush. The Saints thought they were getting a steal even at the second pick when selecting running back Reggie Bush out of USC in the 2006 Draft. People thought the Texans were stupid for drafting defensive end Mario Williams instead of him, but as it turns out, they may have been right. Williams actually had a breakout season in 2007, while Bush has been struggling to adjust to the NFL level. He has learned he can’t just run around defenders anymore; this isn’t college. He isn’t a bad player by any means; he is a dangerous threat in the passing game, but besides that he does not have the full running back skills to live up to the number two hype he was selected at. Maybe he can finally have his breakout year with the return of running back Deuce McAllister from injury, hopefully taking a lot of pressure of runner.
1.) Joey Porter- LB Miami Dolphins
- In my mind, there is no player more overrate than Joey Porter. The man is all talk, and never shows any production on the field, yet people still see him as a solid linebacker. His off-field issues with Bengals tackle Levi Jones and constant loud mouth attitude solidified for me for writing him number one in this list. All he did was brag before Super Bowl XL, and all that happened was him getting utterly dominated by offensive tackle Walter Jones and the Seahawks offensive line. He rarely makes plays on the field, yet still stirs things up after games. The only thing he was good for was pumping up the crowd and players, plus being a part of a good Steelers team. Now that he is in Miami, we have seen his true colors.
