This is Rio Ferdinand:
As a youngster, Rio Ferdinand played as a striker for his local team, Bloomfields. At Under 14 junior level he moved to Eltham Town, where he played in central midfield. He was spotted by West Ham United and signed for them on schoolboy forms. At sixteen he signed a 2 year Youth Training Scheme contract with the Hammers for the princely sum of $50 a week. He is now considered to be the wealthiest sportsman in Britain under the age of thirty. A tough and rugged player on the field - Ferdinand has been involved in several newsworthy indiscretions off it. After being banned for eight months by the FA for failing to attend a scheduled drugs test in October 2003 - he is now back playing and in top form for both club and country.
