After a pretty hectic Xmas we decided to spend today doing wedding stuff. We are getting married in the church where my dad is a vicar, in Milton, north Staffordshire. As we are hoping to have a number of visitors coming from a distance (including the USA), we decided to scout out places for people to stay and have fun.
After a trip to the pretty market town of Leek with my folks, we went for lunch at the Roaches tearoom. This place is a favourite of my parents’ and has won a number of awards. The menu serves excellent home cooked food, including homemade soup and herb scones and scrumptious, in the beautiful setting of the Roaches. The prices are very reasonable. I also noticed they had a good selection of different teas and coffees. It’s location makes it a perfect stop off after a hike.
Happy Holidays to you all!
I am relaxing at my parents’ house while I write this after a busy couple of months.
I would like apologise again for my tardiness in adding posts but I think I have a valid reason. Chad and I have decided to get married in August of next year! We’re really thrilled and excited, but we had a busy couple of weeks getting the most important stuff sorted. Since we have a tiny budget and only eight months to arrange everything, I think we’re set to get busier. Also, we are trying of course, to make the wedding as ethical as possible. Unfortunately this does not always go hand in hand with thriftiness!
Anyway, I don’t want to bore you all with wedding talk but if you are interested in our progress, feel free to check out my new blog: http://www.transatlanticwedding.blogspot.com
Despite the increase in activities in our lives I have every intention of continuing to keep you all in the loop as far as our ethical exploits go, but the post will probably be short and sweet.
In a sadder note, our potato plant died. We think that it succumbed to blight due to the lounge being too warm. Our fellow indoor gardener friend also had the same problem. The event brought to light the fact the we have really been flying blind with the garden, planting things and hoping for the best. Chad’s mum was kind enough to send us some magazines on indoor gardening and we now realise there is a lot more to it. So, we plan to turn over a new leaf, excuse the pun.
Our flat is beginning to look quite jungle-like as we now have a live Xmas tree, a beautiful orchid plant that was an engagement present and a chrysanthemum!
The next gardening project? Home grown flowers for the wedding. What gluttons for punishment we are!
It has been a while since my last posting and for that I admit I am a fickle lady. However we’ve been pretty busy in 3 dimensional life, including a trip to London, work, study and the other general elements that make up life. But I’m back now.
In London we managed to catch not only the Slow Food market on the south bank, but also the ethical market in the OXO tower. We took a few snaps which are in our photo gallery.
Plants
Well the plants, for the most part are doing very well. I have transplanted some of the courgette plants to a larger pot, the other veggies are making slow but steady progress.
However, unfortunately our potato plants that were rocketing only a week ago, appear to be dying. Being novices, we’re unclear as to why this might be. My dad reckons we planted them in the wrong season, which is possible, but since we’re planting indoors we didn’t think this would make a great deal of difference. We wondered if the living room was too warm, so have moved the plants to the spare room which we never heat. It could also be that they have become pot-bound. We’ll see. It’s sad, but we have to accept that this is an experiment and as such means we are bound to have set-backs. We are only doing this because we have no outdoor space and by no means see it as an alternative.
Elsewhere on Food for Thought
My product focus continues with suggestions for Xmas. This week – fragrance and wine for a clear conscience, a recycled stocking filler and a novel alternative to Xmas cards.
