From the Heart of A Servant

A Tribute to My Wonderful Lord and King by C. R. Lord

A STORY WITH A HAPPY BEGINNING!

OVER 30 YEARS AGO A YOUNG MAN 31 YEARS OF AGE TOOK A TRIP THAT WOULD CHANGE HIS LIFE FOREVER.  THIS YOUNG MAN WAS MISERABLE.  HIS WIFE WAS SUICIDAL, HIS FRIENDS LOVED HIM ONLY IF HE HAD FOOD, DRINK AND DRUGS FOR THEM, AND HIS WHOLE LIFE REVOLVED AROUND HIMSELF.  FINALLY THERE WAS A POINT IN HIS LIFE WHEN HE ALSO ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.  OH HE GAVE LIP SERVICE TO GENUINE CARE ABOUT OTHERS, AND HE EVEN BELIEVED WITH ALL HIS HEART THAT HE REALLY DID CARE ABOUT OTHERS, BUT HE REALLY WAS JUST LIKE EVERY PERSON ON EARTH IS AT HEART.  HIS LIFE MOTTO IN THE END WAS LOOK OUT FOR NUMBER ONE.  WHEN IT CAME DOWN TO A CHOICE TO HIS CONCERNS AND THEIRS; HIS PREVAILED NEARLY EVERY TIME.  HIS OLD MASTER HAD HIM THOROUGHLY DECEIVED.

Now you may be wondering what this has to do with a happy beginning since it seems to be more of a sad story than a happy one.  Well you will soon see that the title is very appropriate if you will just have a little patience.  You see, the story of this young man began long ago when he was a lad of 8.  At that time his father was a truck driver, and he was seldom home.  When his father was home he never really acted like a father at all.  He virtually ignored the children, argued with and hit his wife, and then left and spent his earnings on playing cards, chasing other women and drinking.  When the boy was 8 his father decided he didn't want him or his older brother anymore and put them in his tractor trailer truck without their Mother's knowledge, and left.  He took the boys from their home in Pennsylvania to a home in Michigan and dropped them off never to return.  There were a lot of negative things in that house but to keep this brief let me say that within a year the boys Mother found him and the people who he was with drove from Michigan to Pennsylvania to bring him home.

This was the beginning of a period of time where his Mother tried to raise 5 children by herself and work a job to support them.  Finally, at the age of 11 the boy's Mother was forced to put three of the children in an orphanage about 20 miles from home where they lived for the next five years.  After that the Mother remarried and the children were returned home.  To add to the misery of this boy and his siblings the second father drank and hit their mother and was finally taken away by the police and the children's Mother divorced him.  After one more year of high school the boy decided to join the United States Air Force and on August of 1960 he began almost 8 years of military service.

It was in the military that the boy learned to drink and party.  After being honorably discharged from the Military in 1968 he entered into the drug culture and the next six years were mixed with all that life entails.  Every day was a party from waking to sleeping, and some days there was no sleep as he learned to go on speed binges and stay up for days at a time.  To keep up with the habit he was developing he began to deal drugs he obtained from a contact in Philadelphia and his brother and he found themselves renting a house where they partied continuously seven days a week.  It was this lifestyle that finally led to him leaving Pennsylvania, and finally the story began to have a happy beginning.  He and two companions left for Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he was arrested and imprisoned for possession of about a pound of marijuana.  By now you must be wondering how this could be a happy beginning so I will tell you.

First let me say that this young man should have been sentenced to fifteen years in prison according to the arresting officers, but because he did not fight with the police or argue with them and because he had no previous record of arrests or convictions he was given only 18 days in prison.  Now there were no friends around because the two who came with him returned to Pennsylvania and left him behind.  Now there were no drugs to keep him high so that he had to face reality with a sober mind.  Now the greatest discovery of his life was about to happen.

The young man began to pick up and read a Bible placed in the prison cell.  It was the only book available to the prisoners.  As he was reading it he would ask the prisoners questions, but they didn't have the answers.  Finally he prayed, "God, if you are real and you can prove it to me, I will give you my life.  I am tired of living like this and I want to change."  The happy beginning was on its way.  Upon completion of his sentence God led this man to some people who knew God personally and they helped him understand what he was trying to understand from the Bible.  On February 19, 1974 in an old traveling gospel tent a long-haired hippie just like him shared the gospel from the stage of the tent, and this young man ran forward, fell to his knees and received the gift of salvation that comes through Christ alone.

THIS IS THE HAPPY BEGINNING!  THAT YOUNG MAN, NOW 33 YEARS OLDER IS THE AUTHOR OF WHAT YOU WILL READ ON THIS SITE.  THE POETRY PRESENTED HERE IS TO HONOR AND GLORIFY AND EXALT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WHO HAS SET ME FREE FROM ALL MY FILTHY RAGS OF SIN AND MADE ME INTO A NEW PERSON.  HE HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH, AND WHEN I WAS READY HE GAVE ME A WONDERFUL WIFE AND SEVEN SPECIAL CHILDREN WHO IN TURN DESIRE TO PLEASE AND GLORIFY HIM AS WELL!  I PRAY AS YOU READ THE WORDS GOD HAS GIVEN ME ON THESE PAGES THAT YOU WILL BE BLESSED AND PERHAPS FIND A HAPPY BEGINNING FOR YOURSELF!

BY THE WAY, THIS STORY WILL HAVE A WONDERFULLY HAPPY ENDING!  I'M GOING TO BE BLESSED TO SPEND MY ETERNITY IN TOTAL PEACE IN THE PRESENCE OF MY KING!  I EARNESTLY HOPE AND PRAY YOU'LL JOIN ME!
