CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS.
1. The Federation of Bhutanese Trade Unions (FOBTU) was formed on 1st of May 2000, coinciding with 111th International Labour Day in Kathmandu (Nepal).
2. Awareness Program on Workers Rights was organized in Damak (Nepal) for 35 workers rights forerunners from 13- 14th May 2000.
3. Mr. Shiva Chapagain was nominated to attend the training program ( Occupational Health and Safety) organized jointly by Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) and Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) in Kathmandu from--- to--- May 2000.
4. Mr. Nandi K.S.Neopaney and Ms. Indra Ghalley attended a program ( Building trade unions into the 21st century through leadership training) organized jointly by Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC), ICFTU (APRO) and LO/ FTF in Kathmandu from 27 - 31 May 2000.
5. Two Executive Members of Bhutan Transport Workers Union(BTWU) Mr. Parashar Dahal and Mr. Shiva Ghimirey were nominated to participate in the training program organized by Nepal Yatayat Mazdoor Sangh from --to-- 2000 in Dharan.
6. Mr. Khem Kaphley and Mr. R.K. Upreti attended a training program organized by Nepal Telecommunication Employees Union from -- to-- in Janakpur.
7. Mr. Shiva Chapagain attended a follow up workshop on Occupational Health and Safety Organized jointly by Nepal Trade Union Congress and Japan International Labour Foundation from-- to-- in Kathmandu.
8. Mr. Nandi K.S.Neopaney and Mrs Tanka Maya Sharma attended a training program (Regional Leadership Training Program) organized jointly by Democratic Confederation of Nepalese Trade Unions (DECONT) and Frederic Ebert Stiftung (FES) from 14- 17th October 2000 in Mahendranagar.
9. Mr.Nandi K.S.Neopaney, Mr.C.N.Timsina, Mr.Prahlad Dahal, Mr.Mahendra Adhikari, Keshabi Adhikari, Ms. Kausila Adhikari and Mrs Sabita Pradhan attended an International program ( Water Forum) organized by WAFED from -- to-- in Kathmandu.
10. International Labour Day (May Day) was celebrated on 1st May 2001 at Damak amidst a grand function. Prize distribution was done to the winners of the essay competition (Need of Trade Unions In Bhutan).
11. Mrs Uma Timsina and Ms. Purnima Magar participated in a training program (Trafficking and HIV Aids) from --to-- in Biratnagar.
12. Mr. Nandi K.S.Neopaney and Mr. Parashar Dahal participated in an Annual Convention of Nepal Trade Union Congress from -- to-- in Birgunj.
13. FOBTU representatives participated in a sit- in-protest in December 2002 organized by the residents of Bhutanese refugee camp (Khudunabari) to pressurize the government of Nepal and Bhutan to expedite the process of repatriation of the verified refugees and to initiate the process of verification in all other remaining camps.
The FOBTU President Mr. Nandi K.S.Neopaney and FOBTU Central Executive Committee member Mr. Nanda Gautam, along with other Bhutanese organizations ' representatives, coinciding with the 55th International Human Rights Day (10th December 2003), participated in a day long sit- in protest infront of the Dutch Parliament and submitted a memorandum to Dutch Parliamentarians through Mr. Haan de H, Chairman of the Dutch Parliament Foreign Affairs Commitee.

Refugees’ appeal to Dutch govt

Representatives of Bhutanese refugees in Europe have appealed to the Dutch government to put human rights and repatriation of refugees as preconditions to provide further developmental aid to Bhutan.
A memorandum demanding the same was submitted to the Dutch Parliament yesterday in The Hague on the occasion of the 55th International Human Rights Day. Haan H.de, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the parliament, received the delegation and the memorandum on behalf of the Dutch Parliament.
"The chairman had a long discussion with the delegates on wide ranging issues affecting the Bhutanese refugees in Nepal," says a press release issued by Bhutan Peoples' Party here
today.
Among other issues, the group has apprised the chairman about the flaws in the 15th ministerial level meeting, denial of citizenship rights, non-confirmation of the place of habitual residence to the repatriated refugees, involvement of UNHCR in the repatriation and the rehabilitation process. The delegation comprised four members, namely Durga Giri representing heads of the delegates and the General Secretary, External Affairs Bhutan Peoples' Party, Nandi Kishore Neopaney representing Federation of Bhutanese Trade unions (FOBTU), Nanda Gautam representing Stichting Information Bhutan International and Ram Bahadur Karki Chhetri representing Youth Organisation Of Bhutan.
"The group had also organised a day-long 'sit in protest' in front of the Dutch Parliament. Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD), an international human rights group based in The Hague, facilitated the programme. The program was widely participated by the supporters of Bhutanee refugees and other intellectuals," says the release.

2. The Federation of Bhutanese Trade Unions (FOBTU) participated in a program (world Demonstration for Peace) along with other peace loving organizations on 20th March 2004
at Birtamod (Nepal) to express solidarity for human rights, justice and world peace.
