Edmonton is North America's gateway to the north. Close to 1,000,000 people call Edmonton and the surrounding area their home and if you're anything like me, you like to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, dreaming of days off when you can pack up the fly rod and head out to one of Alberta’s world class streams or a trophy stillwater fishery.
With a great standard of living and an unbelievably low unemployment rate, Edmonton has much to offer everyone including the largest mall in the world, the largest urban parkland in North America and of course the Edmonton Oilers, one of the world’s most renowned NHL hockey teams. But one thing our city doesn't offer (and is very important to us fly anglers) is a near by trout stream. Of course we can travel several hours and drive to some of the best trout fishing on the planet but usually we just don't have the time.
So this page is dedicated to all that are in search of a nearby fishin' hole. A place of solitude where we can spend a few hours breathing in some fresh air and soaking up some wildlife. A quiet, relaxing spot to cast a dry fly, a streamer or maybe a nymph and wait for feeding trout to inhale what we spent all winter creating on the vise. A special stillwater place called "The Pothole Lake".

On
this site, I'm going to talk about stillwater fly-fishing. I'll give
you some background on how I got involved in it, directions to local
trout lakes, some of my favorite stillwater fly patterns, float tubing
tips, articles, videos and links to some of my favorite fishing websites. And,
of course, I'll include lots of pictures from the results of my fishing
trips or of me and my friends just having a whole lot of fun.

Edmonton's local trout lakes offer up some superb fly-fishing and although stillwater fly fishing is my preferred method of wetting a line, I also enjoy fishing the lower Bow River for big browns and rainbows like this 23 incher. Feel free to check out my photo albums for more pics like this one and also browse around my other pages for some great stillwater fly fishing information.
