DEDICATED TO MY OLD FRIENDS

This page is dedicated to the dogs (and cats) who are no longer with me.

LITTLE BITZ AT HEARTSIDE

PIA

In her youth, she competed in obedience, agility and Flyball, gaining many places in all disciplines.  She also appeared in a stage play where she had to be “on-stage” for most of the play!!  She loved it.

She has had many places in obedience in beginners and novice, even beating Tigger on occasions!

But she came into her own when we discovered Flyball. She became a height dog and the fastest time a team with her on has raced was 18.73!!!!! We won our division that day!!!!

PIA CHEATS DEATH

The first thing she tried to do on arrival, was eat the food out of Bobby’s (see Old Friends) food bowl. When I told her off, she bit my arm – hard!!!

This set the tone of behaviour for the next 9 months! She was a very dominant little girl!

I’d try and teach her some manners and if she didn’t like what I was trying to show her, she bit.  By the time she was 6 months old, I had bite marks all the way up BOTH arms. The vet said that when I’d had enough, she would put her to sleep for me!!
She was that bad.

At 9 months she caught a viral infection that affected her heart. She would move, turn blue and collapse. We didn’t think she would make it.

Pia had other ideas.

The vet said that if she lived a quiet life, she might make it to 3.  Again Pia had other ideas. She started agility and loved it

PIA CHEATS DEATH - AGAIN

When she was 7, Pia started in a stage play and was on the front page of the local paper – in colour! And she was interviewed on local radio.

A few months after this, she came down with Gastric Tortion.  She was rushed to the vet, who said if I’d been 10 minutes later, she would have died!!!!

Yet again this tough little dog pulled through.

She is now nearly deaf – which is a good thing as she can’t hear the fireworks any more!!!

SAD NEWS

This time - Tuesday February 21st 2006, Pia lost her grip on life.

Her kidneys had been failing for some time and over the previous week she had lost a kilogram in weight.

There was nothing more that we or the vet could do, so at 2.40pm Pia went to join Tigger and Midge at the Rainbow Bridge.

CLEVEWOOD ALTERATION FOR HEARTSIDE

You are so lucky when you get that “Dog In A Million,”  I have been even luckier, I had two!!!!!

TIGGER

Tig died Sept 03, aged 11 1/2) but it still seems like it was yesterday.

He was a real gentleman. The love of his life was Flyball and he was still playing until a month before his death.

He turned his paw to most things, obedience – hated heelwork, but still won me out of pre-beginners!!! Agility – preferred to take his own line!!!! Even though he liked to show his character, he still had many places in both activities.

We tried working trials, but didn’t compete because we had no access to the scale.

He was also a promising sheep worker, but again lack of sheep meant we had to stop.

Tig was a dog in a million.

BRIGET THE MIGET OF HEARTSIDE

MIDGE

Midge was 15 ½ when she was PTS with cancer of the pancreas. She was still playing Flyball right up to her death.

She wasn’t the fastest dog in the world, but she kept on going.

She had many clear rounds in agility and retired at the age of 11 in the middle of a jumping course at Holt when she started banking the jumps.

Midge came from Stubbington Ark near Gosport.  She had been abandoned at the shelter on the night of 30th December 1988
