Great job band! After reading the comments, listening to the tapes and watching the dvd of our performance I'm impressed with what we have this year! All the comments about our ideas and performance qualities were great. Our focus for this week will be speeding up transitions and making things flow into eachother. The biggest detractor was the amount of downtime and the amount of people who seemed unsure and not ready to go when that downtime was happening.
We will work out smoother transitions while we work on closing the show!

Congratulations everyone! Camp is running smoothly! Your hard work and cooperation is paying off. Our drill for the opener is ready and we should have it on the field by this Friday. Next week we will work hard to get the ballad and closer on the field. All we need is for everyone to come to camp prepared and we can have this show on the field by the first home game! Don't forget to fill out and return your handbook forms. (contract, march-a-thon, and t-shirt order form) All forms are located in the forms section of this website.
Next Monday will be uniform fitting day. Don't miss out or we will have to take time out of your schedule in the future.
Winds/Brass- Great job in warming up your sound! You don't sound the same as the first day you were here. We're really starting to sound like a band instead of individuals. Keep working on breathing! AIR AIR AIR AIR AIR
Percussion- Drumline sounds very clean. As we add the remainder of our line, work with them to keep it this clean. Be the band's metronome on the field. Pit, your reading skills are improving! As camp goes on we will be spending more time working with the band. Rhythm comes before notes, read the rhythm then add the notes.
Guard- Great discipline. Keep up the energy on the work and it will look great and impress a lot of people. As we move into the flag feature and dance routines, apply the same discipline that you did to the opening sets.
EVERYONE- Remember our fundraisers this week. We still need 3 parent workers for the concert this Friday! Please help if you can!
Also the carwash/bakesale this Saturday. These will help us raise the money needed to attend our travel dates. Without them we will have a very tough time making it to competitions.
Thank you to all parents and students who attended last night's meet and greet. Your questions and comments are very welcome. They are helping me get a good feel for the concerns and feelings of the band.
The calendar is now updated to reflect the changes to the camp schedule.
Also thank you to the parents and students who helped out at the car wash last Saturday. We had a great time and raised a good amount of money.
Reminders about band camp:
-Bring water/snacks
-Bring sneakers
-Bring sunscreen
-Check with your neighbors in the band, they might be able to carpool with you
-Check the schedule as it has been updated
Looking forward to next week!
-Mr. Strickler

The 2008 Winter Guard Season began for the new Fluvanna Winter Guard on January 26th at Oakton High School. The Winter Guard performed well, but their show was very incomplete which limited scoring potential. The 16 ladies and gentlemen of the Fluvanna Winter Guard are working diligently to bring more of their production to the stage on Saturday, Februar 2nd for their first-ever WGI Regional. Our performance time is 12:17 p.m. at Powhatan High School. Come out and support Fluvanna.
Update: 01-24-08
Happy New Year! Winter Guard performance season is already upon us! This Saturday, January 26th, Fluvanna will debut their 2008 production entitled "Moondance." You will find an itinerary for our first performance on our calendar! The 2008 Fluvanna winter guard is comprised primarily of the membership of our 2008 AIA Novice Bronze Medalists, Fluvanna Blue. Because of our growing talent level, we are skipping the Regional-A class and moving right up to the more competitive Scholastic A-3! Enjoy our performances this year as we represent Fluvanna in AIA and at two WGI Regionals!

Congratulations go out to the Fluvanna High School Combined Bands on their performance Saturday May 12th at Hanover High School. Fluvanna performed in a festival competition before heading off to Kings Dominion. Fluvanna earned three straight Superior Ratings from the judges, the highest rating that can be awarded, and finished in First Place among all of the competing High School Bands. A special congratulations goes out to Senior Gene Benvenutti who was recognized as the outstanding soloist of the day! Congratulations to all of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Percussion Ensemble members for all of their hard work this semester!
Christian performed at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association Solo and Ensemble Festival last Saturday at Madison County High School. Christian received straight superior ratings, the highest rating awarded, for his performance of "Caprice Valsant" by George Hamilton Green. This is the first time in years that Fluvanna has been represented at solo and ensemble. Great Job Christian!
Congratulations to the Fluvanna High School Symphonic Band on their performance Friday night for District Festival. Fluvanna earned a Superior rating, which is the highest rating awarded by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. In addition Fluvanna received a Superior rating from each of the four adjudicators at the event. This is the first time in at over a decade that Fluvanna has earned straight "ONES" at festival. Many thanks to all of the parents and teachers who came out to support our band. This is a significant milestone in our history, and it is proof positive that the hard work we have been doing during the day at school has paid off! CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to Freshman Christian Covington on making the All-State Band this past weekend. This is the highest individual honor that a high school musician can achieve in the state. Christian finished an incredible 6th out of 74 high school percussionists from across Virginia, and he will likely be in the Symphonic Band, which is the top group at the All-State Level. Christian will become one of an elite few students who have represented Fluvanna over the years in the All-State Band. Mr. Covington is also one of only a handful of 9th grade students to make it into the band. GREAT JOB CHRISTIAN, and CONGRATULATIONS! The All-State Band Concert will be held at April 14th at the Ferguson Center for the Arts of Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Virginia. Come out and see Christian perform in this top band in the state!
