THE NORTHERN LIGHTS
The Aurora Borealis, known as the Northern Lights, are a spectacular light show which occurs when solar particles from the sun collide with gases in Earth’s atmosphere. When there are many collisions, it causes an aurora - lights that seem to dance across the sky. It takes place in the northern regions, but can be seen from many parts of the world.
THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
This, the world's largest coral reef, is located in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland in Australia. It stretches over 1,400 miles in length and can be seen from space. An estimated 1,500 species of fish and 350 types of coral live and grow on the reef.
THE HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON
The Gardens of Babylon are said to have been built in 600BC, on the bank of the river Euphrates. They were described by ancient Greek sources; "the hanging garden has plants cultivated above ground level, the roots of the trees are embedded in an upper terrace rather than in the earth. The whole mass is supported on stone columns."
THE GREAT PYRAMIDS OF GIZA
The Egyptian Pyramids are the oldest and only surviving wonders of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. They were built around 2700-2500 BC on the bank of the river Nile. When the Great Pyramid was first built, at 481 feet high (145.75 meters) it was the tallest structure in the world, and remained so for more than 43 centuries.
HARBOUR OF RIO DE JANEIRO
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world is this harbour on the East coast of Brazil. When Portuguese explorers first saw the harbour on 1st. January 1502 they thought they had reached the mouth of an immense river, so named it Rio de Janeiro, which means River of January. Landmarks around here include the statue of Jesus Christ on Corcovado Peak.
