MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Wool Floss (2 ply), 9 balls (1 oz balls) of Camel for size 12; 10 balls for size 14; 11 balls for size 16; and 1 ball each of Cherry Red and Wood Brown for each size... Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2... Shoulder pads... 2 buttons.

GAUGE: 8 sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

BACK: Starting at lower edge with Camel, cast on 128 (135, 141) sts. Work tightly in ribbing of k1, p1 for 2 1/2 inches. Now work in pattern as follows:
1st row: K across.
2nd row: P across.
3rd and 4th rows: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows.
5th row: * K9, drop Camel, pick up Brown and K1, drop Brown, pick up Camel and k1 (when changing from one color to another always twist one color around the other to prevent making a hole), drop Camel, pick up Brown and k1, drop Brown, pick up Camel. Repeat from * (being careful to carry yarn loosely across back of work), ending row with Camel, knit 8 (3, 9) sts.
6th row: With Camel, purl 9 (4, 10) sts. * p1 Brown, p11 Camel. Repeat from * across, ending with p10 Camel. Break off Brown and continue with Camel.
7th to 14th rows incl.: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately.
15th row: K3, * drop Camel, pick up Red and k1, drop red, pick up Camel and k1, drop Camel, pick up Red and k1, drop Red, pick up Camel and k9. Repeat from * across, ending with Camel, knit 2 (9, 3) sts.
16th row: With Camel, purl 3 (10, 4) sts. * p1 Red, p11 Camel. Rep from * across, ending with p4 Camel.
17th to 20th rows incl.: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately.

The last 20 rows constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures in all 12 1/2" (12 1/2", 13").

To Shape Armholes: Keeping continuity of pattern, bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows and 2 sts at beginning of following 4 rows. Dec 1 st at end of each row until there remain 96 (103, 109) sts. Work straight until piece measures from 1st row of armhole shaping 4 1/2" (4 1/2", 5"). On next row, work across 48 (52, 55) sts. Turn and work over this set of sts only until piece measures from 1st row of armhole shaping 7" (7", 7 1/2").

To Shape Shoulder: Starting at armhole edge, bind off on every other row twice 4 (5, 6) sts. Bind off 6 sts at shoulder edge on every other row 3 times. Bind off for back of neck the remaining 22 (24, 25) sts.

Attach yarn to base of piece just worked and work across remaining 48 (51, 54) sts to correspond, having for back of neck 22 (23, 24) sts.

FRONT: Work same as back until piece measures from 1st row of armhole shaping 4 1/2" (4 1/2", 5"). On next row, work across 38 (40, 42) sts. Bind off for front of neck next 20 (23, 25) sts, work across remaining 38 (40, 42) sts.

Work over the last set of sts only, binding off 2 sts at neck edge on every other row 4 times. Dec 1 st at neck edge on every other row until there remain 26 (28, 30) sts.

Work straight until piece measures from 1st row of armhole shaping 7" (7", 7 1/2"). Shape shoulder same as for Back shoulder. Attach yarn at opposite side of neck edge and work other side to correspond.

SLEEVES: Starting at lower edge with Camel, cast on 92 (99, 105) sts. Work tightly in ribbing of k1, p1 for 1 inch. Now, work in pattern, same as for Back, until piece measures in all 3 1/2" (3 1/2", 4").

To Shape Top: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows and 2 sts at beginning of following 4 rows. Dec 1 st at end of each row until there remain 64 (65, 65) sts.
Dec 1 st at both ends of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until there remain 44 (45, 45) sts.
Bind off 3 sts at beginning of the next 8 rows. Bind off remaining 20 (21, 21) sts.

Press pieces through damp cloth. Sew side and shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew sleeves in. Sew in shoulder pads.

NECKBAND: With right side facing, pick up and knit 134 (136, 138) sts. Work in ribbing of k1, p1 for 1 inch. Bind off in ribbing.

Work a row of sc along back opening, making two ch-3 buttonloops on left edge. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonloops.
