flight of dragonflies art jewelry

hand-made unique fine art jewelry

For those of you that are frequent visitors to my online portfolio, my sincere apologies for the lack of recent additions. I have been ill and unable to pursue my sometimes elusive creativity. I'm feeling better now, and even better, Fall Semester has started. I find myself excited and eager to learn new techniques and to sink my creative teeth into something.

One of the planned techniques that we will be practicing is fusing. Having just seen a demonstration of this technique at CoMA in July, I'm looking forward to trying my hand at it. The artist Marne Ryan's demonstration showed how to use bits and pieces of metal to build up a rich texture. I can't wait to get started.

I am a fourth generation Cheyenne, Wyoming resident. I started out making jewelry to sell at Society for Creative Anachronism events over ten years ago. I then joined my family who sell their hand-made craft items in craft shows around the region. It was in the fall of 2003 that I took my first Metals class at the local community college from Julie Jerman-Melka, and have continued to increase my jewelry-making vocabulary in that class ever since. I took second place in the Jewelry, Textiles, and Pottery category for one of my pieces in the 2005 All Laramie County Art Show and Sale and first place in the same category in the 2006 show. I took third place in the 2006 Southeast Wyoming Art Show and Sale with an enameled copper mobile. Some of my work has also been displayed in the Laramie County Community College Ester and John Clay Fine Arts Gallery and the Platte Valley Festival of the Arts. Jewelry making for me is an expression of my thoughts and ideas as well as a journey of learning and inspiration.
