Vanessa da Mata was born in 1976, on Alto Garças, Mato Grosso (Middle-West of Brazil). Self-Learning graduated, with 14 years old she moved to Uberlândia, Minas Gerais to get ready for the universities's admission exams. Soon she was making shows in local taverns. In 1992, went in São Paulo, crooning various bands. Vanessa da Mata's solo career began to be launched in 1997, by composing together with Chico César "A força que nunca seca", song recorded later by Maria Bethânia in 1999. Bethânia have recorded da Mata once again on the album “Maricotinha” (“O Canto de Dona Sinhá” track). “Viagem” was recorded by Daniela Mercury. With Ana Carolina, da Mata wrote “Me Sento na Rua”. Meanwhile, her voice and spirit were making her popular. Artists like Milton Nascimento, Maria Bethânia and recently, Baden Powell invited the singer to show together with them. In 2002, she released hers first CD, “Vanessa da Mata”, in 2004, “Essa boneca tem manual”, Which scored platinum-disc level of copies sold. In 2007, "Sim" made da Mata, definitively, an actual modern-MPB's star.
