The Grand Duchy Flandrensis, the Gibraltar of Antarctica. The Grand Duchy Flandrensis is a micro-nation located on “Siple  Island" (73°39'S, 1°12'W) in West Antarctica and was founded on September 4, 2008 . The Grand Duchy Flandrensis since December 31, 2008 an autonomous sovereign territory inside the kingdom Finismund. Peter Maximus of Finismund was recognized as king of Siple, the Grand Duke of Flandrensis remains the official head of state and the Government of Flandrensis retains its full autonomy. Like the British Gibraltar in Spain, the Gibraltar of Flandrensis Antarctica.

Name explaining:

The Pagus Flandrensis was since the fourth century a Frankish province around the city Brugge between the Zwin and the Ijzer with cities Torhout, Oudenburg and Gistel.

Flandrensis literally means "flooded area" or "Lowlands". The name was first used in the eighth century. Since 862 a remarkable line of Flemish counts  this quasi-independent land between the borders of the French and German Empire.
