The Stories
Welcome to the Park
Chautauqua Days - In 1980, I spent my first Summer at Chautauqua. By the time I spent my next full Summer there in 1984, the place where I had worked in '80 was gone. Replaced by a structure with no redeeming architectural qualities, this was the begining of a trend in the economic evolution in Chautauqua's history.
Sailing - In '84 Gregg Howell and I went out on his Hobie Cat sailboat in gail force winds. It remains the best moment in both of our lives not involving women or babies.
Coming Home - I lived in California for awhile. Hated it... just wasn't for me.
G.P. Blues - In 1980, I worked at the Glen Park scrubbing pots. All other names have been changed to protect the guilty.
I. Betchacan - A fictional story gathered from a couple of different people. But mostly Mr. Slade, a retired teacher who taught me a lot of cool stuff when I was a kid.
Ladies of the Lake
Walking Alone - Written for many, but based on K.P.'s Roommate Betsy.
Harmonies - When I was writing this I thought that if I just wrote a good enough song, I could get the girl in the end... never happened. What happened was that I got a life long friend.
New Shoes - The conclusion to Harmonies. Written in a basement in Cleveland, OH (thanks Jerry and Sue). It took only minutes to write. I call it a blurb. K.P., who it was written for said, "pretty good blurb."
Jennifer Smiles - Written for a girl whom I now only remember as a kiss. Dedicated to my Cousin Jenn.
