Old Folk - New Songs: Volume 1
Fraught with turbulence, valor, tragedy and often humor, this three-part series tells of the stories and people that are Dave's life. This long-conceived project completes the series of albums that started in 1987 with the release of Welcome to the Park.
"In some very small ways, songs are like your kids. When they first arrive, you see them as perfect. But as time passes, you begin to see them for what they are; flawed but loveable parts of yourself. After a very long drought, Ive decided it's time for my songs to go out into the world and see if they can survive on their own. So, with my small team of merry malcontents I am putting together the songs of the last twenty-some years of my life. Presented in the way you are likely to hear them if I were playing live. Thank you for supporting folk music in general. I hope the music pleases." -Dave

The Stories
1. Factory Job - This is a song I began writing at the age
of 23. I finally finished it some 11 years later. It's about the employment desperation in
Buffalo, NY for the last 20-25 years.
2. Erie Canal - This is a traditional song about an
under-taught era in American history.
3. 24 going on 34 - A song about my lost generation... or at
least we thought we were.
4. Konaloa - Sometimes you need to get away. This song is
about escape, a boat, and the members of her crew.
5. Freckles - This song started as a gag 20-some years ago
with a bunch of kids. I wrote a couple of new verses in the next few years. Some people
say its dirty, but it's fun and harmless.
6. Perimeter 17 - I wrote this song after a night in a
gentlemens club where a Nam vet mistook me for a fallen friend. The next day,
the song wrote itself.
7. Empty Hands - A song for my dear friend Cindy.
8. Cindy - The story of my friend continues
and ends.
9. Be Kind - A song written for my son Pierce after he scared
the tar out of me when he was 8.
10. Genny Blues - A small town in Western NY had a problem. Its' salt
mine flooded. This song was written after friend Karen Canning challenged me to write it.
11. Kellys Song -
.you figure it out.
12. Sweet Summer Memory - A boy and his dog. Is there any
relationship as pure?
