Welcome to Pro Celebrity Team
Roping. Randy Fisher of Garden City, Kansas is the
founder and promoter of the Pro-Celebrity Team Roping Match.
Randy has been a successful roper since childhood. He competes in
local events as well as the IFCA and USTRC ropings.
It
was the love for the sport and the pride in his heritage that he
started the Pro Celebrity Team Roping. It began in 1994.
It was formerly known as the PCM Pro/Celebrity Team
Roping. The idea for the pro/celebrity match came
from Randy’s college rodeo days at Kansas State. “We had a
celebrity team roping during the rodeo. The grandstands were
hard to fill the first night so to draw people in we would get
celebrities like Jan Stenerud and Walt Garrison (both former
professional football players). We would team up with these
guys and it drew in more spectators.”
“I decided to ask the gentlemen that influenced
my life to be the celebrities. The cowboys age range from the
60’s to the 90’s. These celebrities are from both the Garden
City and Dodge City areas. I also ask the pros, who are World
Champion’s, such as Tee Woolman, Speedy Williams, Fred
Whitfield, etc. that are competing in Beef Empire
Days and/or Dodge City
Roundup to team up with the celebrities to rope."

| Randy was inspired to make the team
roping celebrity and pro because of his father and the other
cowboys that he admired as a child. These gentlemen had a
tremendous influence on him while growing up. “These cowboys
were instrumental in both business and rodeo. They helped with
and competed in rodeo's that I watched when I was growing up.
Many of them brought economic benefit as they were businessmen
as well. " I wanted to honor these men who were and are
influential in my life. They have kept their cowboy heritage
and way of life.” |

He teams up the three celebrity cowboys from Garden City- Don Fisher (Randy’s father) with
two other celebrity cowboys and teams them with three pros.
And three celebrity cowboys from Dodge City with three pros.
They each rope three steers and are assessed a 60 second time. If
the steer is not caught in three loops then the total time for each
of the three ropers and their respective teams add their times for a
combined time. They rope first in Garden City. That time is then
carried over to the Dodge City Rodeo and the
same three steer format takes place.

In
addition to these cowboy/celebrities proving they still have the
stuff it takes, competing for bragging rights for their communities,
they rope for “The Traveling Trophy” respectively titled “Lookin’
Forward, Lookin’ Back.“
The idea came after reflecting on an evening
my Dad and I were roping together and remembering what it was like
to watch him rope and wanting to be like him. It honors the everyday
cowboy, his heritage and way of life.”
