Fleet List Correct to: 14th January 2012

This is the fleet list and allocation of buses in Dorset - buses allocated to the Dorset and Somerset arm of First Hants & Dorset - namely the Weymouth (these will be shown as W), Bridport (these will be shown as B) and Yeovil (these will be shown as a Y) depots.

Please note; allocations between the three depots are fluid and as such, they are swapped from time to time due to a number of reasons. I claim this fleetlist to be accurate for the buses allocated to Dorset - not necessarily are the correct depots. For example, the 31 Scanias are swapped every now and then, or operational reasons may dictate one ends up at Bridport where it is Weymouth based.

Dorset operate the following vehicle types. Please scroll down to see the allocations of that particular vehicle type in Dorset - they are listed in order below.

Extra information: 34020/62 were acquired to Portswood depot in 2003 from Stagecoach Cambus as Volvo B7LA bendybus replacements, but have been transferred to Weymout replacing Leyland Olympians. They both wear all over advert liveries for local holiday parks in Weymouth. 34258 was acquired from Go Ahead London in 2005 and originally allocated to Portswood, but after an accident with a bridge, was converted to open top and transferred to Weymouth for their summer season. It still retains its dual door layout from London, and can usually be found on route 501 in the summer. New Olympians were acquired in 2011 - all originating in London. 34010 and 34044 came directly from Southampton, with 34043, a sister to 34044, coming to join from Bristol.

Extra information: First HD at Weymouth is a compilation of different groups of Leyland Olympians. The 343** batch originated in London and were acquired by Dorset during 2007 and 2008 (34345). All carry Barbie livery and all have LED displays. 34502 was acquired from First Badgerline back in 2000 to what was First Southern National, and represent the remnants of once a fairly large batch of Roe bodied Olympians in service in Dorset. In 2009, two ex-First Bristol Leyland Olympians with Northern Counties bodywork were acquired to the fleet in the form of 34627 and 34628 - 34627 was allocated to Weymouth but has since been withdrawn from the fleet, replaced by 34628 which was previously up at Portswood. Since then, 34623 and 34629 have joined from First Devon & Cornwall.

Extra information: During 2004, route X53 (Exeter - Wareham) was extended from Wareham to Poole and Weymouth, along with upgrading the vehicles to 5 Scania Omnidekkas. These carried a special Jurassic Coastlinx Livery and were specifically allocated to route X53. They were joined in 2005 by spare vehicle 36006 in normal fleet livery, which sees use on most of the double decker routes. In 2008, 36001-5 were rebranded and repainted with the introduction of a new set of Volvo B9TL double deckers, and now wear similar branding for the 31 (Weymouth - Axminster), also marketed as along the Jurassic Coastline and running parallel to some of the X53's route. Drivers and passengers generally enjoy this batch of buses due to their comfort and power, and they are spoken highly of.

Extra information: First Hants & Dorset acquired 7 brand new Volvo B9TL double deckers for route X53 in 2008. These replaced the Scania Omnidekkas listed above this type, as the contract for the X53 called for buses under 4 years of age. The photos are a mix between mine and Ant's - the August 08 ones are his, all of the "09" photos are mine. Weymouth depot also have 37351 on loan from First Bristol at the moment, usually allocated to X53 duties.

Extra information: WINTER STORAGE - not in use at present - First Hants & Dorset have acquired this former Western National Volvo Citybus for open top route 501 down in Weymouth. 38015 is intended to be the replacement for Bristol VR 39971, which was retired from service in 2010. VR 39971 is still on the books at FHD, but I haven't added it to this fleetlist as it is unlikely to see service in the future. 38015 has arrived in Weymouth for the 2011 summer season.

Extra Information: First inherited a large batch of Dennis Dart SLFs when they took over the Southern National fleet. 42817-23 were originally allocated to route 31, but following the introduction of (now departed) Volvo B10BLEs, were cascaded onto other routes now regularly turning up on route 1, 2 and 10. 42826-9 have always been allocated to route 2, and were at one point some of the only Dart SLFs to wear Barbie 2 livery. 42826 and 42828 still carry blue line branding for route 2, but 42818 and 42821/2 have lost their new style Overground branding for route 10. 42636 was originally with First in Yorkshire (now withdrawn), and 42350 is unique as the only Caetano bodied Dart SLF in the FHD fleet. Weymouth depot has just received Dart SLF 42452 (R452CCV) from Barnstaple depot, Devon, to replace 42636. As for the Dart SLFs usually allocated to Yeovil, 42222 was new to First Cymru. 42630 was new to York Pullman, according to Bus Lists on the Web. 42729 was new to First in Bristol/Badgerline. Sister to 42729, T728REU is now in service at Hoeford depot.

Extra Information: 5 Dennis Darts were acquired from First in London in 2002 for service 10 (Weymouth to Dorchester). They initially received Yellow Overground branding for the service. However, following changes to route 31 in 2005, they were displaced off of the route by low floor Darts and cascaded onto other services. In June 2009 three were withdrawn, leaving only 2 as illustrated above, that wear a special livery for the Waterside Holiday Park service. 46226 and 46229 were part of a large batch of Dennis Darts acquired by Badgerline. The P---CGM Darts were all new to London Buslines which became one of First's companies, and were cascaded to First Southern National in 2001.

They originally arrived with blind displays, which have since been replaced with LED units. With the arrival of the Volvos from Manchester (scroll to bottom of page), they were cascaded onto other services to operate alongside Dennis Dart SLFs.

Extra Information: First in Dorset operate 4 Optare Solos. 50270-2 were acquired from First in Leeds in Autumn 2005, replacing 3 Mercedes-Benz Varios on service 3 in Weymouth. In May 2009, a new Solo 53802 replaced previously allocated 53801 for the Lyme Regis town service from First Devon & Cornwall. The change was made because 53802 is slimmer than 53801 and better suited for the Lyme Regis streets. First have recently lost the 71 to Damory, so 53802 is presently in use on Bridport town services. It was new to First at Bath. 53002 has been transferred up from First Devon & Cornwall and is predominantly used on town services in Yeovil.

The 4**** and 53028 Solos are the main allocation on town service 1 in Yeovil, operating at every 15 minutes. 40004/5/6/12 were new to First PMT, moving down to Yeovil just after the national numbering system was introduced. They were amongst the first buses numbered - back when some of the Optare Solos went under the 4**** midibus system rather than the 5**** minibus. 53028 was acquired from First in West Yorkshire.

All wear fleet livery and usually allocated to Bridport for routes 40, 44 and 45. 52540 has been transferred up from Plymouth to Weymouth and has now entered service.
