Fleet List Correct to: 9th April 2017

This is the fleet list and allocation of buses in Dorset - buses allocated to the Dorset and Somerset arm of First Hants & Dorset. Buses fall under the maintenance of Weymouth but can be allocated to one of 4 locations:

Please note; allocations between the three depots are fluid and as such, they are swapped from time to time due to a number of reasons. I claim this fleetlist to be accurate for the buses allocated to Dorset - not necessarily are the correct depots. For example, the 31 Scanias are swapped every now and then, or operational reasons may dictate one ends up at Bridport where it is Weymouth based.

Dorset operate the following vehicle types. Please scroll down to see the allocations of that particular vehicle type in Dorset - they are listed in order below.

Extra Information: Weymouth have had a mix and match fortunes with their Tridents. For a number of years, a number of ex-Bristol and ex-Barnstaple buses operated in the town, but now only 32766 is left, and this is due to a dedicated advert for a holiday camp in the local area. However, during 2016, a large number of Tridents that were new to London have arrived in the town - featuring some new in 1999 all the way through to 2002. A vast number are in service - shown in black in the list above. The recent arrivals are 33056-8, which were transferred from Norwich and are being prepared for service. Additionally, it is expected that another 8 will follow in the near future - 33113 (LT02NVX), 33146 (LR02LXB), 33149 (LR02LXH), 33156 (LR02LXP), 33158 (LR02LXT), 33164 (LR02LYA), 33165 (LR02LYC) and 33170 (LR02LYK) - but these have not been transferred yet.

39920 L650SEU Reserve (B) NC Palatine 2 O47/27F ex-First Bristol & Avon (acquired 2013). Semi-retired - storage at Bridport (in the open air)

Extra information: Weymouth has long been home to second hand Leyland and Volvo Olympians. Now only two open-toppers remain - both in reserve following the end of the summer season. 34258 and 39920 have been in use in the summer for the 501, but with DDA compliance deadlines in place for 2017, it is expected these will both be withdrawn this year.

Extra information: During 2004, route X53 (Exeter - Wareham) was extended from Wareham to Poole and Weymouth, along with upgrading the vehicles to 5 Scania Omnidekkas. These carried a special Jurassic Coastlinx Livery and were specifically allocated to route X53. They were joined in 2005 by spare vehicle 36006 in normal fleet livery, which sees use on most of the double decker routes. In 2008, 36001-5 were rebranded and repainted with the introduction of a new set of Volvo B9TL double deckers, and wore similar branding for the 31 (Weymouth - Axminster), also marketed as along the Jurassic Coastline and running parallel to some of the X53's route. In 2014 that changed once again, with the X53 and now-X31 receiving various changes to route and frequency. Following service changes in 2015, these now work together with the Volvo B7TLs across all of the Jurassic Coaster services. Drivers and passengers generally enjoy this batch of buses due to their comfort and power, and they are spoken highly of.

Extra information: First Hants & Dorset's Southampton depot are beginning to move to a fleet which is primarily made of single decks. A number of Volvo B7TLs are moving down the south coast to Weymouth, replacing Dennis Tridents and Volvo Olympians. All of the Volvo B7TLs are in service from Weymouth, and have replaced the Volvo Olympians on the "jack of all trades" routes, featuring regularly on anything from school service to summer service boosts on the core route 1.

Extra information: First Hants & Dorset acquired 7 brand new Volvo B9TL double deckers for route X53 in 2008. These replaced the Scania Omnidekkas listed above this type, as the contract for the X53 called for buses under 4 years of age. The X53 has since been launched commercially by FHD, and the clause requiring buses of a certain age has been removed. Nowadays, these buses work on any of the Jurassic Coaster workings together with the older Scania Omnidekkas.

42954 WX06OML W ADL Pointer 2 B37F New (2006). Acquired from First Bristol (January 2015). To Wessex (June 2015).

More Information: In late 2014/January 2015, six Bristol based Darts were swapped with six former London Volvo B7TLs at Southampton. These buses initially saw service in Southampton, but following the arrival of 10 new Streetlites, the Darts were transferred to the Wessex region. Only 42954 (WX06OML) remains at Weymouth depot, although at present it is off the road. Please also note that Dennis Dart SLF 42823 (S823KPR) is still on the books at First Hants & Dorset and is stored at Yeovil depot. It has been classified as "long-term reserve" although it has not entered service since the DDA compliancy regulations came into effect at the start of 2015.

Extra Information: In late 2013, 6 brand new Wright Streetlite WF buses entered service at Weymouth depot to upgrade route 2, connecting the town centre with Littlemoor. These were the first new buses introduced to the town services of the former Dorset area of Southern National since 2000 (Scanias and Volvos have arrived for the 31 and X53 but nothing for town routes). Now only two remain, the others having been transferred away to Slough (47405-8) or Southampton (47670-2).

Extra Information: First in Dorset acquired 6 Optare Solo SR for town routes during June 2014. They are primarily allocated to routes 4 and 8, although can appear on other town routes from time to time. Usually, at least one is allocated to Yeovil depot. I will endeavour to keep up to date which one(s) these are - however, the actual allocation may not always be correct. A quick thank you to the regular Yeovil reporters who are excellent in keeping me up to date via the forum.

Extra Information: There have been a variety of different Volvo B7RLEs to operate from Weymouth. Firstly, in late 2008, 8 Volvo B7RLE single deckers were acquired from First in Manchester, to upgrade route 1 (Weymouth to Portland) from existing Volvo B6BLE single deckers, which would in turn be cascaded onto other services. There are now only three left from this batch, the rest having been transferred up to Doncaster. It is expected that the remaining examples will follow in due course. Two further examples joined in 2016 from First in Bath, numbered 66732 and 66733, but these will also depart in the near future. For the time being, it has been confirmed 66732/3 and 69210-2 will remain in the fleet. Finally, in 2016, the 14 Volvo B7RLEs that launched the Eclipse routes in Fareham and Gosport in 2012 were transferred down to Weymouth to upgrade routes 2 and 10. These have all entered service in at Weymouth carrying a variety of the Urban 2 livery - the ones with a light green front are for the 2, dark green for the 10 with one generic vehicle.
