There is no other way.
By 2014 it will be exactly one hundred years—an entire
century—since World War I started. Muslims and Christians make up half the earth's human population. As of September 11, 2007, they have been killing each other for six years. Not even the World Wars lasted this long. If the killing doesn’t stop NOW, the West
will have added another Hundred Years’ War to its infamous history.
Who is behind all these wars? The almighty, omniscient
Creator of the Universe! Some call this deity God and some call it Allah. In the World Wars, Christians were killing Christians and both sides believed God was
on their side. In the present war, the Christians believe God is on their side
and the Muslims believe Allah is on their side. Back in 1882, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche pronounced God
dead. But still the wars rage on.
If atheists and agnostics of every type and stripe agree on anything it is this: That the power of fundamentalist religion must be broken. To accomplish this task in lands as predominantly fundamentalist as North America or the Middle East, we need to pool our knowledge, information, successes, and failures--we must unite. In no other way can we make any real difference.
