Movie Review

by Adam James

Everyone has their own opinions about movies, so my comments

in my review are my opinion alone. If you disagree with my

review, that’s fine. Remember this is my opinion.

Who does not love this movie! One of my all time favorites!

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) is just great movie! Honest,

who doesn’t want to be loved by all in high school? Not only

that, but be loved everyone in town. Plus, who doesn’t want

to skip school and get away with it. But, not all of us can

get away with that leisure.

Storyline

The movie takes in Chicago with high school senior Ferris Bueller

(Matthew Broderick) faking that he is sick to his parents to enjoy

a “day off” from high school. But his nosey principle is obsessed

with catching Ferris. With the help of his best friend Cameron

(Alan Ruck), who paranoid of being caught and stressed by his

father) to help fool his principle (Jeffery Jones) and help Ferris’

girlfriend, Sloane (Mia Sara), sneak out of high school. In the

process, they “borrow” Cameron’s father’s 1961 Ferrari 250 GT

and cruise through out Chicago. Together they go to a baseball

game, go to the museum, eat at fine restaurants, and take over a

parade. While doing this, Ferris’ sister (Jennifer Grey) and the

principle are on a quest to finally catch Ferris. In the process,

they total the Ferrari and help Cameron cope with his father.

Then it ends with Ferris in a mad dash to reach his house before

his parents and his sister get home.

Production

There are so many great moments in this movie. My personal favorite

is when they go to the Art Institute of Chicago; Cameron just stares

at a painting and shows a great deal of character without even

saying a word. Also when Ferris lip sinks Twist and Shout, it is

honestly one the best moment in all of cinema. It makes you just want

to get up and start and having the time of life. Plus how Ferris talks

in third person shows so much character is in this film.

Retro Movie Review:

Raiders of the Lost Ark

             By Adam James

Everyone has their own opinions about movies, so my comments in my review are my opinion alone. If you disagree with my review, that’s fine. Remember this is my opinion.

Because of a conflicting schedule, I will be reviewing the classic move Raiders of the Lost Ark instead of the movie Pride and Prejudice which is a three and half hour movie- I’ve been very busy lately. The movie Raiders of the Lost Ark is a master piece of cinema. With an all star cast and a very rich story line, there is every reason to watch this wonderful film. It’s classified as an action movie, but in truth it has a comic banter to it and a bit of romance.

Storyline

The movie takes place in the mid 1930s. The great adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is on a quest to find the Lost Ark of the Convenient. During this quest, he finds former friend Marian Ravenwood (Karen Allen) and together they visit exotic locations and try to stop Nazis from stealing the Ark for their own dark intentions. Through a nonstop rollercoaster ride, Indiana faces off against his rival Rene Belloq (Paul Freeman) and receives help from his old friend Sallah (John Rhys-Davies) as he takes on the entire German army. I won’t tell you how it ends, but the story line is masterpiece and you will not be disappointed.

Production

With real-time explosion and very elaborate sets, the movie squeezed every penny out of their production budget. The legendary director Steven Spielberg and terrific screen writer George Lucas have made their mark on this masterpiece. Although this movie was released in 1981, age has done very little to this piece of cinema. Even the original score from the movie, by John Williams, is still one of the most recognizable even to this day. If you this movie. You have to try the sequels and the new film they are making for mid 2008.

Cast: 10

Storyline: 9.8

Production values: 9.7

All in All: 9.9

This is one movie that can’t be missed.

Retro Movie Review:

West Side Story

By Adam James

This time for a movie review, I have decided on the American classic West Side Story (1961). For me, this was the first time I’ve seen this movie and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing. Personally, I never have been a big fan of musicals except for Grease and The Producers, but now this movie has to be one of my favorites. I was captivated from start to finish. It reminded me of a modern day Romeo and Juliet.

Storyline

The movie takes place in the late 1950s. Its starts when The Jets the dominate gang of the streets is challenge by the newcomers The Sharks. To make sure they win this “gang war” the leader of Jets convinces old friend Tony (Richard Beymer) to help in their war. Although Tony rejoins, he longs for something more and that something is Maria (Natalie Wood). Maria is the sister of Bernardo (George Chakiris) the Sharks leader. And at a dance, Maria and Tony fall in love. Bernardo seeing this is outraged and attempts to break the two up. Knowing their love is forbidden, they continue to see each other. I don’t to say any more details, for the ending is wonderful and also so thought provoking and heart breaking it made you just want to stand up and cheer.

Production

The dance choreography of this feature is some the finest I have seen to grace the silver screen. The directors were Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise did a beautiful job of making this terrific film. Also the songs of the movie just want you stand up and start singing. Personally my favorite song is the “The Jets” song. The movie was highly successful and it won 10 out of 14 Oscars nominations. It is truly a American movie classic.

Overall

Cast: 9.2

Storyline: 9.5

Production values: 8.9

All in All: 9.3       Wonderful! Wished I’ve seen it sooner.
