Vocal 'Logues
These are translations of the drama tracks on the Final Fantasy Vocal Collection CD. They are not a straight translation. Instead, I tried to write them more like a localization, using speech patterns we could expect from the games, while keeping as true to the original Japanese as possible. So, it's sort of half way between a translation and a localization.

01 monologue ~ Yuna ~

(throughout the monologue, there are background noises like the hum of an engine, footsteps, and occasional soft sounds of typing)

Yuna: After I defeated Sin...I hadn't even thought about what would happen then.
Because I thought that...together with Sin, I would also die.
However, the Final Summoning...the false hope...it's gone now.
Even after I defeat Sin, my story will continue, won't it?
I haven't thought at all about the future.
When the Calm comes, what should I become...?
Or how should I live...?
I hadn't even imagined it.
But, I'll manage somehow.
Do you notice?
Being able to think this way, it's thanks to you, you know.
You, who suddenly appeared in Spira, stayed by my side, and worked out the things I couldn't.
In unease and hesitation, and even in tears, I believe in your smile.
No matter what happens, we'll manage and work it out.
Even the wind, even the rain, we'll take it all straight ahead.
Heart-break, sadness... Everyone! Jump over and run past them!
I'll be holding hands with you, surely.
(the roar of what sounds like an airplane taking off is heard)

03 monologue ~ Tidus ~

(throughout the monologue, there are background noises like the hum of an engine and occasional soft sounds of typing)

Tidus: I was a dream...I don't understand that at all.
Even though they say that if we defeat Sin, I'll disappear, I'm here right now; how can I disappear?
If I tell everyone this way, I think I can probably laugh at the situation.
Just like that, I'll be totally comfortable with it...probably.
But, you know, I can't tell them of course.
Now, everyone's running forward, aiming for the Calm. I don't want to worry them or anything, and if Yuna were to cry, I wouldn't know what to do again.
Ah, am I...frightened?
More than me crying, Yuna crying is much more...
More than me not being here, Yuna not being here is much, much more...frightening.
(he gives a little groan of frustration)
Don't mess with me, old man! This fine mess is your fault.
Let's end this already.
You couldn't believe in the infinite possibilities.
I believe...and I'll make it come true.

05 dialogue ~ Tidus, Wakka ~

(a door of the Airship is heard opening, and footsteps follow)

Wakka: Yo! What's wrong?

Tidus: What do you mean?

Wakka: Ever since Zanarkand, you've been kinda down. Something wrong?
(he pauses)
It's because we'll be facing your old man, huh?

Tidus: Kinda.

Wakka: Sorry! I went and said something weird.

Tidus: Wakka, you're too dense!

Wakka: Sorry, ya.

Tidus: It's okay. I can't say things about people either.
What kind of emotions Yuna was journeying with...I didn't notice at all.

Wakka: It's kind of like Blitz.

Tidus: Huh?

Wakka: It's important to predict the movement of the ball, ya,
but if that's all you worry about, you can't move, you know.
That's why, for dense guys like me, it's better not to read too much ahead.
No matter what kind of ball comes at you,
you stretch out your body and catch it.
If you just think about that, it's all right, ya.
You'll catch Yuna just fine, you know.

Tidus: Is that so...?

Wakka: I'm telling you, it is!
No matter what happens, if it's you, it'll be okay.
(He gives Tidus an encouraging slap)

Tidus: I wonder if I can catch her.

Wakka: Of course! Sir Wakka guarantees it!

Tidus: Well, you sure said a lot! For someone who doesn't know people's feelings.

Wakka: Well, I'm dense, ya.
(You can hear him walk away)

07 monologue ~ Rikku ~

(throughout the monologue, there are background noises like the hum of an engine and occasional soft sounds of typing)

Rikku: A long time ago, when I was still small,
I hid in a corner of Home and cried by myself.
Why I was crying, I don't remember at all,
but you know, my pops found me there.
What do you think he said to me?
He said, "If your face cries, your heart will start to cry too, so...Anyway smile!"
It's totally abnormal, isn't it.
You know, even though I felt so sad that I cried,
I thought "what fitting thing are you trying to say?"
But, they became words I couldn't forget.
A heart that yields to pain,
even times when it's dry like the desert,
with some kind of start...
yeah, even trivial things are okay,
so if it can make you smile,
you'll gain a little feeling, you know!
And it'll become more than just dry!
Yeah, that's it! It's kind of like an oasis.
At first, it's small but, if it really spreads out,
even the desert can drink it in.
No, it doesn't mean to force yourself and smile,
it means you should do it naturally.
That's hard to do when you've given in,
but, you know...I'm always thinking
"If I could start it off, that would be great!"
In the beginning, it's a small smile.
If I'm with everyone, wherever we go, it'll become huge,
and then someday, it'll spread to all of Spira.
That's my dream!

07 dialogue ~ Yuna, Rikku, Lulu ~

Rikku: Umm, you know, it's really complicated, but I wanted to ask...

Lulu: What is it?

Rikku: How should I say this? Umm...I don't get excited, you know?

Lulu: Even though we're facing Sin? Rikku, amazing as always!

Rikku: Not that! It's you know...when your heart races and throbs. That!

Lulu: Amazing. Yuna! Can you come here for a moment?

Yuna: What is it?
(She runs over)

Lulu: Rikku here, she says she wants to feel her heart race.

Yuna: Umm...

Tidus: (In the background) Wakka, you're too dense!
(Yuna gasps)

Rikku: See! That feeling! Just by hearing a voice, you get all nervous!

Yuna: It's not like that...

Rikku: Isn't it great!

Yuna: Rikku...

Lulu: It is, isn't it. What I can say is...

Rikku: (She runs closer to Lulu)
What?! What?!

Lulu: Do your best.

Rikku: That's it?!

Lulu: Because, it happens......
naturally. Wouldn't you say, Yuna?

Yuna: It happens before you know it, doesn't it?

Rikku: Wasn't it not like that?
(Yuna makes a noise like she's been caught off guard)

Rikku: If you just say "It happens naturally" how am I going to do my best?

Lulu: By finding a good way.

Rikku: I have to look by myself?!

Lulu: Won't that be more fun?
