Metal Gear

Another successful Japanese franchise is Metal Gear by Konami first released in 1987, Metal Gear was a stealth based action game where you played as Solid Snake to stop the Nuclear Threat that has arisen thanks to the invention of Metal Gear, a Bipedal Nuclear Equipped Walking Battle Tank. The game was followed by the sequel Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake in 1990 and then the now infamous Metal Gear Solid in 1998. Metal Gear Solid was the first 3D version of Metal Gear and one of the PlayStations biggest selling games, in it you played Solid Snake once again to try and stop a terrorist organization known as FOXHOUND, who have forced a scientist to create a Metal Gear (known as REX) it is Snake's job to rescue the hostages and find out whether the terrorist have the ability to launch a nuclear weapon and stop them if they do. This was followed by the release of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. Snake was once again forced to stop another Metal Gear that was being held in a cargo ship off the coast of New York unfortunately he fails and the Metal Gear (known as RAY) is stolen and Snake is presumed dead after the incident. Two years later you are taking the control of rookie FOXHOUND agent known as Raiden who arrives on the Big Shell Clean Up Facility under orders to rescue hostages, which include the president of the United States, from a terrorist organization calling themselves the Sons of Liberty. Metal Gear Solid 2 was followed by Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater also for PlayStation 2 in 2004 the game was a prequel to the rest of the series, set in the '64, you play as Solid Snake's biological father Big Boss (codenamed Naked Snake)  who has been sent into the Jungles of the Soviet Union to rescue a scientist known as Sokolov during his mission he is thwarted by his ex-mentor known as The Boss and is injured in the process as well as Sokolov getting kidnapped. After a brief hospital visit Snake is sent back to the Jungle to sort out the mess The Boss has made when she Soviet Union blamed her for the Nuclear attack which was actually set off by Colonel Volgin, who the boss now works with. Snake learns about a nuclear equipped tank known as the Shagohod, unlike Metal Gear the Shagohod has no legs. It is Snakes job to stop them using Shagohod and to kill The Boss. Another prequel (sequel to MGS3) was made named Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for the PlayStation Portable in 2006 where you once again played as Big Boss (Naked Snake) to try and stop another threat being made on the world by FOX commander Gene who has overtaken an abandoned missile silo in South America and it threatening to use an prototype Metal Gear known as RAXA. In 2008 on June 12th Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be released on the PlayStation 3. Once again you play as Solid Snake who has aged greatly and has been sent out into the middle of a war zone to stop Liquid Ocelot.
