This web site is primarily devoted to the promotion of my literary works and services.

I'm an Author, Poet, Columnist, Blogger and Speaker.  I'm also into consultancy---manuscript editing, proof-reading and ghost writing.

So far, I've been privileged to contribute, across the world, columns to newspapers/internet web sites, essays to journals and poems to anthologies.

And as a personal philosophy, I have endeavored, most often, to craft my articles, essays, poetry and books as a social commentary on my immediate environment.

Press Release:

PublishAmerica Presents Seaport Heights by Femi Olawole

Frederick, MD June 7, 2006 -- PublishAmerica is proud to present Seaport Heights by Wilmington, Delaware author Femi Olawole.

In a nutshel, Seaport Heights is the story of a Chicago private school that offered academic excellence to kids whose parents had nothing to offer them except lessons in sexual lust, greed, hypocrisy, criminal negligence, and sheer misplacement of priorities. Seaport Heights is also a sober reflection on single parenthood, the triumph of bi-racial romance, and a woman’s struggle against all odds and stereotypes to emancipate her family from a ghetto existence.

The Price of a Reckless Past

v     The playboy of yesterday has attained maturity, married a wonderful lady and has a flourishing career. Unfortunately, however, he can no longer father a child. His past affliction with a sexually transmitted disease has left him sterile.

v     It's payback time for the reluctant gigolo. In the process, he almost loses his destiny, sanity, and a cherished fiancée.

v     In spite of her past atrocity, the pregnancy-aborting young lady now finds solace behind the facade of born-again Christianity. Unfortunately, the new faith cannot protect her from the agony of her self-inflicted physical and emotional scars.

v     This is a novel, a literary work and an educational tool, all rolled into one. While the primary theme of the book is sexuality education, it's also a discussion of relationships, an exploration of the marriage institution and a grand excursion into the cultures, the traditions and the orientations of an African society.

MOTIVATION.

The Price of A Reckless Past was initially designed as an educational tool for my children, Adeoluwa, Ifeoluwa and Ebunoluwa.  I wanted them to learn from the sexual recklessness, mistakes and sheer naivety of some of my hapless peers who didn't know the difference between self-destruction and fun.  But before I knew it, the counselling papers evolved into a manuscript and finally, a novel.  And without doubt, the lessons in this book has since turned out to be the greatest legacy to pass down to my wonderful children.

INSPIRATION

Each time I take a peep into the outrageous outings I had in my younger days while posturing as a player, I still cannot really fathom out how I managed to survive my reckless past unscathed.  It was in the absence of a rational explanation for this total escapade therefore that I resolved to attribute my survival to the grace of God.

However, I can never forget some of my peers who were not so lucky.  In fact, the memory of the various physical and emotional scars that continue to hunt the lives of those hapless individuals contributed, in no small measure, to my decision to write this novel, The Price of A Reckless Past.

As a lucky survivor of a reckless past therefore, I expect the readers of this book to feel like hearing from the horse’s mouth.  And this is not just another product of some theoretical, academic exercise on sexuality education.  Rather, it’s a concerned voice of reason from someone who has been there, done that.  And I can only hope that mine will not be reduced to a lone voice crying in the wilderness.

SEAPORT HEIGHTS

It had everything that parents needed to pamper their kids and impress their friends.  It was elitist, exclusive and expensive.

To have a child in the school was a status symbol for the nouveau rich and those who pretended to be rich in the State of Illinois.  But while the school did have a lot to offer as an ego-booster and a center of academic excellence, it was completely helpless in the bid to mold the character traits of its students.

And if there was an obvious moral laxity in the highly revered school, the situations at homes for most of the students were even worse.  Due to errors of commission or omission, some of the parents unwittingly exposed their children to sexual lust, criminal negligence and sheer misplacement of priorities.

JESSICA WEATHERS, a senior in Seaport Heights, was not only a spoilt brat but also one on an inadvertent mission to self-destruct.  Like every teenager with a huge misconception about independence, she could not wait to be free of parental control.  Alas!  When fate finally presented her with independence, she was overwhelmed by its sheer weight.  And like many teenage girls, Weathers was so blinded by the whims of infatuation that she had to endure a sudden and painful transformation from teenage to womanhood.

LAKEERA WATSON was a starry-eyed 12th grader who did not know that all that glittered was no gold.  Luckily for her, she had a mother who had been there, done that.  It was the older Watson therefore who resolved to ensure that her daughter’s ignorance did not culminate in a case of history repeating itself in a vicious cycle.

ERIC TURNER was the nurse in charge of the infirmary at Seaport Heights.  He was a young man who, by dint of hard work, rose up from a notorious Chicago south side neighborhood to become an achiever.  He however committed some blunders that threatened to derail everything he had worked for.  That was when he busted the duo of Weathers and her boyfriend as they had an indiscriminate sex in the school infirmary.

MARY MILLER was Turner’s mother.  She was a strong, Black woman who struggled against all odds and stereotypes to ensure the emancipation of her kids from a ghetto existence.  But when her son suddenly appeared to be on a downward spiral, she sprang into action not only to save him from jail but also to avoid his relapse into the ghetto.

WRITING CAREER

Writing has always been Olawole's first passion.  Between 1990 and 1995, he decided to sharpen his skill by working as a freelance journalist.

He did contribute several thought-provoking reports, articles and essays to newspapers and magazines on the idiosyncrasies and extravagance of bankers in an industry noted for its elitism and conservatism.

In 1993, Olawole received the prestigious Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) in the Business Reporting category.  His winning entry was titled Sailing On Dark Waters, a special report that showcased the travails of entrepreneurs in their search for seed capital.  It was published in the Business Concord of January 22, 1992.

In the advent of the 21st century, he made a foray into the Internet where his essays and articles have since been published on regular basis in e-magazines such as lagosforum.com, gamji.com, nigeriansinamerica.com and others.  In 2003, he had the honor of being invited to contribute to the Fall edition of Chimera, the journal of the USA-Africa Institute.  His essay was titled The Growth of Modern Africa: What Role for The African American?

And in March, 2004, the author was appointed to The News Journal Community Advisory Board in Delaware, United States.
