Faramir

Faramir is the youngest son to the Steward of Gondor Denethor who shows resentment towards him for favoured brother Boromir who was slain by Orcs in the woods at the foot of Amon Hen.

A valiant captain that men would follow, that he would follow, even under the shadow of the black wings. Faramir is prone to premonitory dreams and feels his brother is dead when he dreams of Boromir floating on the River Anduin in the Elven boat. Days later, his feelings are confirmed when Boromir's horn is found washed up on the riverbank broken in two.

While patrolling Ithilien he finds and captures the Hobbits Frodo and Sam in Emyn Muil. Later, he captures Gollum in the forbidden lake near their one of the last refuges of the Men of Gondor in Ithilien "Henneth Annûn" meaning "Window on the West" (or "Sunset"), taken from the waterfall that flowed over it and hid it from the servants of Sauron.

After he learn that the one ring is in possession of Frodo, he returned to Minas Tirith to give the ring to his father, but Osgiliath calls for help. Protecting Frodo from the Nazgûl, he discovered that the ring couldn't be controlled, so he let Frodo, Sam and Sméagol free to continue their mission.

Upon his return to Minas Tirith after the invasion of Osgiliath, his father Denethor shows resentment towards him, to not bring the ring, remembering him that his bother Boromir will have not fail to bring him this Kingly gift. He sent him immediately to Osgiliath to prove his honor as the son of the Steward of Gondor to regain the city, which was mission impossible. On his retreat from Osgiliath to Minas Tirith, he was wounded, and only survivor and has been taken to his father. Denethor in despair that his line of Steward was ended, he tried to burn both him and his son alive on a pyre, Denethor perished and Pippin and Gandalf rescued Faramir in time.

After the Battle of Pelennor Fields, he was cured by Aragorn in the Houses of Healing. There he met Éowyn, White Lady of Rohan and sister to Éomer, then after Théoden's death King of Rohan, and fell in love with her and marries her. Faramir has been rewarded as Prince of Ithilien and Lord of Emyn Arnen, a title given to Faramir by King Aragorn Elessar, who granted him the hills of Emyn Arnen for his residence, Gondor's lands east of the Great River.

Biography David Wenham Born in Marrickville, Sydney, New South Wales (Australia), on September 21st 1965. David is the youngest of 7 children: 1 brother and 5 sisters (Peter, Helen, Anne, Carmel, Kathy, Maree) and a proud father of a girl. He studied at the Australian Western University. After his acting training he began landing television and stage roles. David is best known (and best-loved) is his portrayal as the laconic fisherman "Diver Dan" in ABC TV's comedy-drama in the Australian Broadcasting Company's weekly series "SeaChange", a role which earned Wenham one of his AFI nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Television Drama. Critically acclaimed in Australia for his diverse performances in film, theater and television. A five-time nominee for "Best Actor in a Leading Role" at the Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards, Wenham won the honor in 1997 for his role in the Television Drama Series "Simone De Beauvoir's Babies" and "Twisted Tales". For the theatre, he has appeared in "Art and Tartuffe" for the Sydney Theatre Company, "Hamlet", "The Tempest", "Cosi", and "The Headbutt" for the Belvoir Street Theatre, "That Eye the Sky" for Burning. He received an Australian Film Institute nomination for his menacing portrayal of criminal Brett Sprague in the feature film in "The Boys". And was again nominated for "Best Lead Actor" for the part he first played on stage in the Griffin Street Theatre Company production "The Boys" by the Film Critics' Circle of Australia nomination. He was also an associate producer on the film which received 13 Australian Film Institute nominations. In the 1990's, David began a successful career in film and landed parts in movies such as "Moulin Rouge", "Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course" and "Lord of the Rings" which David got the part of the young brother of Boromir: Faramir the valiant captain of Gondor and future prince of Ithilien and Eowyn's husband. On March 13, 2002, David signed up as an "Ancient Forest Guardian" in Sydney. In 2001, on stage at Adelaide's Festival Theatre, he narrated historical Australian texts accompanied by the city's symphony orchestra. The pieces included the former Prime Minister's famous 1992 Redfern speech on the need for Aboriginal reconciliation and native title laws.
