I have been searching for the last year for information regarding old style qualifications ( pre 1989 ) after being told that my NNEB ( 1984 ) was no longer an acceptable qualification.
I am not opposed to topping up my knowledge with short courses on relevent subjects but am opposed to taking on a whole new level 3 qualification. I feel that my NNEB laid the foundations for my knowledge and that only needs to be built upon by updating my learning as and when necessary.
I have 20 years experience to go with my NNEB which no one can take away from me. To now be told that my NNEB is no longer recognised is an insult.
The department for education have been very helpful and have told me that as long as I have had no long career breaks and have kept up to date in certain areas then I am fine. Unfortunately I have not had the same reaction from other organisations.
During my search for information I have visited various sites on the internet and have found many unhappy and disillusioned people with older qualifications who have had enough of being told that they need to retrain, we worked hard for our qualifications and even though they may now be old it does not mean we have forgotten what we have learnt. If anything our years of experience enable us to do our jobs better now.
