The Sons of Fëanor

The sons of Fëanor are the grandchildren of Finwe, first High King of the Noldor, who was slain when the Dark Lord Morgoth stole the Silmarils from Valinor. Their father Fëanor was Finwe's eldest son, and thus his successor as High King, but after Fëanor's death, his eldest son Maedhros abdicated the title of High King in favour of letting it fall to his cousin, Fingolfin. Nonetheless, Fëanor's sons are still Princes and among the mightiest of the Noldor, ruling over much of East Beleriand. Their ultimate goal is to recover their father's Silmarils, though in doing so they have established a vast, strong realm against their enemy, Morgoth.

Following is a biography of each Son, along with the colors and jewels that symbolize each (unique to the game).

Maedhros       diamond

Lord of Himring; The Tall

Maedhros is the eldest of the sons of Fëanor, considered to be their leader, and thus the chief of the Princes of the Noldor. He is mighty in battle, and yet the most wise of the sons of Fëanor, and the most mild in temperament save for Maglor. Maedhros has suffered much, however, for not long after the return of the Noldor to Beleriand, he was taken by the Enemy through treachery and hung by his wrist from the slopes of Thangorodrim. He was rescued soon enough by his cousin Fingon, though at the cost of his right hand. Maedhros regained his strength quickly, however, and soon learned to be as deadly in battle with a sword in his left hand as he had been with his right, and yet for Fingon's courage, he abdicated the title of High King and let it pass to his uncle Fingolfin. Of his brothers, he is the closest in heart and mind to Maglor.

Maedhros' domain is the mighty citadel upon the Hill of Himring, from where he rules as the foremost Prince of Fëanor's blood.

Maglor       sapphire

Lord of Maglor's Gap in Absence; The Singer

Maglor is the second of the sons of Fëanor, and closest in mind and manner to the eldest, Maedhros. Of all the Princes, he is the most alike to his mother Nerdanel, having inherited something of her gentle spirit and temperament. He is also a master bard, surpassed in skill only by Daeron of Doriath, and thus famed as a singer of renowned beauty. Maglor is an equally great warrior, however, and as staunch with a blade in his hand as any of the other sons of Fëanor.

Maglor followed his father into exile, and saw him perish at the hands of the Balrogs. With the rest of his brothers, he dwelt to the east of Beleriand, and Maglor settled between the Little Gelion and Greater Gelion, the two rivers that came together to form the long Gelion itself. That region - which came to be known as Maglor's Gap - lacked hills or mountains, and so was the place on Beleriand's border that was most open to attack from the north.

Maglor guarded his Gap for four and a half centuries, but was eventually overcome in the Dagor Bragollach. The dragon Glaurung invaded Maglor's land and ruined it, so that he was forced to flee to the fortress of his brother Maedhros on the hill of Himring to the west.

Celegorm       emerald

Lord of Himlad in Absence; The Fair

Celegorm is the third son of Fëanor, and the most ambitious of the Princes and most enthralled by the Oath of Fëanor. He is a great hunter, for in Valinor he had friendship with Orome, from whom he learnt to understand the speech of birds and beasts, as well as receiving a wondrous gift: Huan the great hound of Aman. He is closest to his younger brother Curufin, and also close to his brother Caranthir.

Celegorm ruled over Himlad, the land between the rivers Aros and Celon, for many years, though during the Dagor Bragollach the armies of the Dark Lord overran the defenses of the sons of Fëanor in the pass of Aglon and forced Celegorm and Curufin to flee. Celegorm has since taken up refuge in the caves of Nargothrond where his cousin Finrod is King, though he often goes out hunting in the company of Curufin.

Caranthir       onyx

Lord of Dor Caranthir in Absence; The Dark

Caranthir is the fourth son of Fëanor, and is the harshest and quickest to anger of all the brothers. He is closest in heart and mind to his elder brother Celegorm and younger brother Curufin, yet dwells apart from them.

Caranthir took up residence in the land known as Thargelion or Talath Rhunen, between the Blue Mountains and the River Gelion. This realm became known as Dor Caranthir, and the Prince himself took up residence on the shores of Lake Helevorn, yet after the Dagor Bragollach, Caranthir was driven out by the Enemy and forced to dwell with his younger brothers Amrod and Amras upon Amon Ereb.

Curufin       ruby

Lord of Himlad in Absence; The Crafty

Curufin is the fifth son of Fëanor, the favourite child of his father (for Fëanor named Curufin after himself, his father-name being Curufinwe) and the most skilled in hand like his sire. He is the most perilous of mood, and the most cunning and wily, yet is closest to his elder brother Celegorm.

Curufin dwelt in Himlad, the land between the rivers Aros and Celon, for many years, though during the Dagor Bragollach the armies of the Dark Lord overran the defenses of the sons of Fëanor in the pass of Aglon and forced Celegorm and Curufin to flee. Curufin has since taken up refuge in the caves of Nargothrond where his cousin Finrod is King, though he often goes out hunting in the company of Celegorm. He has also been blessed with a son, Celebrimbor, who takes after him in many ways, but not all.

Amrod       blue topaz

Lord of Amon Ereb; Estolad in Absence; The Hunter

Amrod is the sixth son of Fëanor, the elder counterpart of his twin Amras, with whom he is alike in mood and face. Like his brother, he is a great hunter, choosing to roam across the lands of East Beleriand and rarely venturing north past the fortifications of the Noldor against Morgoth. After the Dagor Bragollach, he and Amras retreated to the protected hill of Amon Ereb, where he was joined by his elder brother Caranthir.

Amras       lapis lazuli

Lord of Amon Ereb; Estolad in Absence; The Hunter

Amras is the seventh son of Fëanor, the younger counterpart of his twin Amrod, with whom he is alike in mood and face. Like his brother, he is a great hunter, choosing to roam across the lands of East Beleriand and rarely venturing north past the fortifications of the Noldor against Morgoth. After the Dagor Bragollach, he and Amrod retreated to the protected hill of Amon Ereb, where he was joined by his elder brother Caranthir.
