Cats, dogs and the occassional rabbit roam Fairbury. The City has been concerned for some time about the danger that loose animals present to the general population. The police answers neighbors complains by shooting unlicensed cats and impounding dogs. This is not a long term solution because as soon as a cat or more are gone, other/s will take their place and the unnecesary killing goes on.
We believe that owning a pet carries responsabilities such as sterilizing, providing veterinary care and keeping the cat within ones' home boundaries. Cats outside unsupervised have it very rough; so called natural demises for a street cat include;
Being killed accidentally(ie being run over/ locked in buildings/falling in wells)
Predators (dogs, coyotes, hawks)
Disease ( a street cat si subject to same illnesses as a pet but most homeless cats don't receive veterinary care)
Manultrition (some cats do hunt and scavenge but none of these sources are enough to keep the animal alive in an urban environment)
Negligent, cruel people and lack of ordinaces enforcenment and/or laws.
Homeless cats have it pretty rough out there; specially those that were housepets once are aren't adapted to the wild. Compassion on our part is of the essence to help with their plight.
Our little group does T-N-R (trap-neuter-release), adopt out friendly cats and advice owners and caregivers on how to properly care for their cats.
As of today we have some adult cats and kittens that will make some lucky person very happy. To see their photos click above the page "Adoptables Album" . Don't be surprised if some of them are listed as N/Adoptable. It means non-adoptable yet. We want you to have a bonafide, healthy kitty therefore we're complying with their medical check-ups, vaccinations, medications and we need to know before adopting out if the cat is somebody's lost pet. Don't let that stop you from zeroing on one..soon we'll have applications you can fill. We'll consider them and let you know.
What we are and what we are not It is important the public understand that Fairbury Cause 4 Claws is not a shelter. We don't have a specific building to house the cats. We depend on foster homes (two at the moment.) Please note that we are more than happy to place a cat, however our foster homes are full. Until there's a vacancy we can't afford taking in more cats. Very sorry for the inconvenience. Would you like to foster for us? You would get the "cat/kitten experience" and help FC4C on the way..we've received cat food and litter donations and expect more in the future so that foster homes can write off these expenses. We can do only so much without temporary homes so please consider it. . Click here http://www.freewebs.com/fc4c/mailcat.htm or click above on "Mail Cat".
