Stunning, limited edition grasshopper escapement clock based on the first marine chronometer by world renowned clock maker John Harrison (1693 - 1776). This replica clock is operated by two interlinked pendulums to compensate for the motion of a ship, allowing the calculation of the ships longitude. Fitted with an eight day fusee movement in hand polished solid brass then gold plated to the highest standards. The centre dial is silver plated with roman numerals, outer minute marks and fitted with Brugeut hands. Seconds are indicated by a semi-circular dial above the 12 o'clock position. Encased in a simple and stylish solid mahogany case with a key drawer at the bottom. John Harrison spent a lifetime perfecting a marine chronometer to win the prize offered under the Longitude Act passed in 1714. With a prize of £20,000 for the first chronometer capable of calculating longitude to within 30 miles; his original timekeepers made it possible for ssailors to navigate accurately. Supplied with a copy of the Dava Sobel book Longitude that reveals the story of the life of John Harrison. Complete with a certificate of authenticity and with production limited to 50 pieces annually you are guaranteed a wonderful clock that will provide pleasure for generations to come.

A gorgeous alternative to the pendulum as the escapement regulator, a ball traverses along groves in the inclined platform that tips the escapement when the ball reaches the end; reversing the slope and sending the ball cascading to the other side. A favourite among clock collectors, the Congreve Rolling Ball Clock has limited accuracy, with the timekeeping limited to +/- 15 minutes per day. Solid brass gold plated fusee movement protected by a glass cover and solid mahogany case. The hours, minutes and seconds are indicated separately on three silver plated dials with roman numerals for the hours and arabic numerals for the seconds and minutes.
