Child's Prairie Dress

This is one of the latest acquisitions for the Fashion Museum.   This calico dress was made for a pre-teen child.  The calico fabric is a heavy cotton and the sleeves and shoulders seem to be a thinner broadcloth material.  The vast majority of the dress is hand sewn but the side seems look to have been sewn on a machine.   This fits in with the late 19th c.  The small buttons on the front of the dress are purely decorative.  There is also some small brown embroidery down the front of the dress.  The photos are slightly washed out to show detail.  The dress is really black with a black and white calico.
