1700's

Here is the collection of fashion related artifacts from the 1700's.   The 1700's was a time of revolution in the western world.   The changes in fashion often reflect that..

18th c frock coat with a 20th c twist

The next pictures are of a gorgeous Frock Coat done in the mid 18th C style.   The fabric the frock coat is made out of was only in production between 1714 and 1718 in France.   The copper bullion embroidery is original to the coat as well.   What is not original is the satin lining and the Art Deco buttons.   Please click on any of the pictures for more information on this lovely coat.

Baby's Bonnet

This lovely bonnet may be even earlier than the 18th c.  Judging by the beadwork and the use of homespun linen and brown silk, it may be as early as the late 17th c.   The beads are gold with small "velveting" embroidery added to the bonnet.  Part of the original white silk ribbons remain at the edges.   Due to it's age, the top of the bonnet has deteroated a small amount.

Stomacher

This lovely Stomacher is from the 1740's.  It was never used and was found in Turkey as one of the many exports from the mid east to the weast at that time.  It is fully embroidered in gold bullion on white wool background.   It's truely a lovely piece from the time period.

late 18th c bodice

This is a bodice that truely survived the Revolutionary War and is still in good condition.  It's off white silk with cotton lining.  I've been studing it to see the construction of early bodices.  The most intresting thing is that it is pieces, boned, and then sewn together.
