Reach for the Stars November 7, 2009
Each year in the fall, Farmers Branch/Carrollton AAUW in cooperation with the Carrollton Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFB-ISD) and Brookhaven College of the Dallas County Community College District hold a career workshop for 7th and 8th grade girls. These hands-on workshop sessions, presented by women employed in math and science related fields, encourage the young participants to pursue careers they may have otherwise rejected.
Brookhaven College provides the site along with assistance in published materials. The ISD helps distribute and collect registration literature, procures transportation in school buses, and provides school chaperons. AAUW solicits area professionals for the keynote and workshop presentations, petitions sponsoring businesses for funding, and manages on-site registration and room hostesses.
