Operating system not found


  1. Make sure cables are tightly installed on the hard drive
  2. Make sure it has a XP installation or windows installation
  3. If it is IDE make sure the jumper settings are correct
  4. Check that the BIOS has detected hard drive
  5. Partition might be marked as active when it shouldn’t be
  6. Use live cd and go to Compmgmt.msc and change partition to active
  7. Type fixmbr in recovery console
  8. The hard drive might be damaged

limited or no connectivity


  1. Make sure correct IP address is picked up by checking in cmd
  2. Try manual ip and try restarting router
  3. Try resetting the tcp/ip and winsock
  4. Ping 127.0.0.1 to check Ethernet card is working

Resetting BIOS defaults


  1. Access Bios, before you exit, choose restore defaults, then choose exit saving changes
  2. Open pc, remove the power cables, remove the cmos battery, move the cmos jumper from 1 and 2 pin to 2 and 3 ping and back
  3. Re plug power
  4. Replace battery if you get error

CD or DVD drives not recognised in XP


  1. open registry
  2. expand HKLM, system, current control set
  3. expand control, expand class
  4. find (4d36e965-e325-11ce….)
  5. in the right pane click upper filters
  6. delete the upperfilters make sure you don’t delete upperfilter.bak
  7. delete lower key
  8. delete lower filter and not the lowerfilters.bak
  9. reboot machine
