Attire: Since Lumiere is forced to be a candelabrum while under his enchantment, that’s exactly what he looks like. He has two metal arms which prop up candle holders; his hands are the tea lights which fit inside of these. His head is a candlestick itself. Lumiere appears in two shades of gold and the candle portions of him are cream in colour. Lumiere was originally role-played by Fed (a role-player who has long, long been missing in action). He was then later controlled by Mitty (best known for playing as Beast). His latest role-player is Kris.
In-Depth Analysis
Lumiere is the maitre d’ in a castle; his master, a prince, was punished for being selfish and unkind towards an Enchantress in disguise. She transformed the Prince into a beast and all his servants into enchanted objects. If the Beast could learn to love another and have the girl love him in return before the last petal of an enchanted rose fell, everyone would be restored to their former states; if not, they would remain the same forever.
Lumiere attended to his duties as best he could and kept up an optimistic attitude throughout the long years. He and the other servants are considered to be the Beast’s only friends until Belle’s arrival. While the relationship between Master and servant before not known, the film reveals a trust and closeness between the Beast and them. This was most likely acquired over the long years spent together. Lumiere loves to talk and freely offers his opinions to the Beast, though he rarely disobeys orders. Lumiere has a good report with the other servants of the castle, though his high energy levels and impulsiveness often exhausts and irritates Cogsworth. He also has an on and off again relationship with Babette the feather duster.

Lumiere was born to be on the stage (or table, at least).
On a personality note, Lumiere is a charming, happy go-lucky kind of candelabrum. It takes a lot to bring this enchanted object down, though it has happened. Lumiere longs to be human again (which is also the title of a song he sings in the “Beauty and the Beast” musical) and has always believed that the spell the castle is under will be broken. It is this faith and patience that helped allow him to keep up his cheery disposition for the years he’s been enchanted. He is charming, kind, a smooth talker, passionate, well mannered, a little egotistical, and proud in the work that he does. (Kris, April 2008)
Behind the Posts
“Wow, what can I say about Lumiere?” begins his roleplayer, Kris. “Too much actually! I love this French candelabrum. He’s the sexiest candelabrum out there and is my favourite character from the “Beauty and the Beast” film. Jerry Orbach did such a fabulous job in making this character come to life. He’s the Cassanova of the castle and I can imagine him chatting up numerous French women back when he was a human.
I wanted to bring Lumiere to FK for a while, but I took a long time making that decision because I had so many characters already. Ultimately I realised that I needed to add him to my collection. Lumiere may seem simple, but he’s actually a complex character. The film exposes us to Lumiere’s cheerful nature, but there are brief moments where we see him angry and sad, even depressed. There’s a lot for this little guy to do. Plus, Lumiere’s a very witty character and that’s always fun to play up.
The hardest thing about playing Lumiere is having to write out the French accent. It’s taken me a long time to try and recreate Jerry’s (Orbach’s) voice in my head to be able to write the accent out, but it’s still a bit tricky at times. The best part about playing Lumiere is being a suave and hyper candelabrum. It’s not something you can say every day: ‘Hi, I’m a suave, yet hyper candelabrum.’” (Kris, April 2008)
