Peter Falk

Peter Falk.  He's one of a kind.

Mr. Falk turned 80 on September 16, 2007, with little fanfare.  The right thing to do would have been to honor him with one last Columbo movie.  In fact, a script for "Columbo's Last Case" has already been pitched to ABC, but the network suits turned it down.  Why? Because Falk is too old, they say.  Apparently, they want to appeal to the younger demographics instead.

What a boneheaded idea.  Columbo is one of television's most iconic characters.  TV Guide ranked him among the top five TV characters of all time.  America's most beloved TV detective deserves better than that.

And you can't convince me that this last movie wouldn't be a small screen blockbuster.  It would be a landmark event of considerable historical importance.  I just have to believe that a lot of sponsors would line up for a shot at this.

Heck, with the ongoing TV writers strike, why not take advantage of this opportunity?  The script is ready; they just need to go into production.

Besides, ABC owes Peter Falk.  Falk and Columbo helped make ABC what it is today.  He deserves to get a grand send off.

The corporate buzzards at ABC had better get on the ball, and soon!
