Laurie Beechman

Laurie Beechman was an exceptional Broadway talent who was taken away too soon.

Ms. Beechman is best remembered as the narrator in Andrew Lloyd Webber's original Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  Her throaty vocals were mesmerizing, and they truly carried the show.  She was also famous for her long run as Grizabella the glamour cat in Webber's Cats.  (I never cared much for that show, except for a few of its songs.   Beechman's rendition of Memories, however, was positively captivating.)

Sadly, Laurie was taken away from us just before she turned 45.  She died of ovarian cancer, which she had been struggling with during the latter stages of her career.

Talk about heartbreaking.  Words can't express how rare a talent like hers is.  Her deeply well-rounded voice is unforgettable, and nobody can come close to replacing her.

Here's wishing that we could hear her record one more performance.  Sadly, that's not to be.
