It is rapidly approaching the second AGM of the society. This first year has been noteable for the successful funding raising events that we held - The Race Night and Quiz Night. These two events have boosted our coffers significantly and allows us to get on with some real doing.
1. Getting a welcome pack/brochure for the community (something as a newcomer I would have welcomed).
2. Start developing a plan for the refurbishment of the recreation ground and pavilion.
We shall talk more about these at our AGM on the 6th June (Village Hall from 7:30pm).
We shall be seeking other ideas for fundraising and want to support the whole community.
To this end, it strikes me we need to bring all the societies together. We are a small village and there are many needs within the community - the church needs repairs to the roof, the pavilion is in a very poor state and I am sure there are many more things we need to discuss. The AGM is one moment when we can come together and share thoughts and ideas.
I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting

The site has been up now for a number of weeks and its membership has grown to nearly 30 - not bad for little publicity. There is a lot more that I would like to see the site doing and I would love to hear from others on their views of what should be included.
One of the things I am keen on is having as many old pictures of the community as possible. e.g. there are a number of old postcards of the area, such as this one of Duddleswell. The house is of course now the tea room. Here it is a shop! What we could do with a shop?
In addition to pictures, I would like to hear stories, much along the line of Peter Selby's book the Forest Camera.
Researching for the site, there are some interesting sites that touch on our village. e.g. The Sussex Ornithological website, where the provide information about the latest birds spotted - a great grey shrike has been spotted at both Gills Lap and near Nutley.
The society is preparing for its Xmas Social. We are hoping for a big turnout to talk with the community about our plans and to mingle and celebrate the Festive Season. See the what's on page for more details.
Membership continues to grow - we are rapidly approaching 100 members out of a possible 370 or so. Not bad progress in six months. We are now planning our fundraising activities, which we are aiming to support the complete overhall of the Recreation Ground.
This is something the whole community should support - we are fortunate to have a magnificant location and it is let down by the poor state of the pavilion. The society will help the recreation ground trustees to raise the money they need to achieve this goal.
As Halloween looms - my children have the scariest pumpkins to ward off trick or treaters - enjoy this time where we celebrate the past and is doing renew ourselves for the future
Welcome
Welcome to the Fairwarp Community Society website. We have spent the time since the Society was first set-up having to consider the Local Development Framework consultation.
Consultation
The submission by the Fairwarp Society has been sent to Wealden District Council. They have received about 12000 submissions and are having to consolidate all this feedback. Welden will report back at some point in the future.
From a Fairwarp perspective, the excellent submissions from the consultation exercise provided very clear direction:
1. Limited affordable housing in Fairwarp is required
2. NO to the significant development proposed for Maresfield
3. YES to linking development and improving infrastructure
4. Encouraging limited employment development through small businesses
5. Improving facilities
The FCS committee agreed that it would focus on:
· Improvement in Sports Facilities
· Tackling the transport issues (lack of bus and speeding)
· Hosting a range of social/fundraising activities
We shall be publishing details of our planned activities after the committee’s next meeting on Thursday September 13 - so watch this space.
I plan to write a monthly blog (subject to work and kids). Go in peace and enjoy the fresh air. Remember there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
