The Nativity Play

They're on the stage, the hall is full, there's not an empty seat.

The costumes fit, the props in place, the scene is quite complete.

The play now starts, the Kings arrive, preceded by the star.

What's that he said? We're from the East. We travelled here by car.

I shake my head, there's worse to come.

The sherherds guard their sheep,

But as they turn to leave the stage, they tumble in a heap.

Mary and Joseph reach the Inn. The keeper shout's "We're full!"

But Joseph starts to improvise,

"That's just a load of bull!

I've seen the stable out the back, its warm and has a manger.

Or won't you let me have that room, because I am a stranger?"

And so the final scene is set, the tableau is complete.

The presents three presented there around the baby's feet.

Suddenly the lights all fail and muttering is heard.

The pianist still carries on,she seems quite unperturbed.

Finally the playing stops, a babies cry is heard.

A hush falls over everyone, a thought has just occurred.

The play has been disasterous, its caused a lot of mirth.

But how that baby's timely cry depicted Jesus' Birth.
