What Carol retiring? It cannot be true!
No more trips to the seaside or days at the zoo.
No sitting on coaches, a bucket and bag,
Or telling off children, her finger to wag.
No rushing to classes when teachers are late.
Or fetching back children, who’d run out the gate.
No making of costumes for concerts and plays,
No scoring or judging at annual sport days.
No cutting up ice cream at leavers’ day fairs
Or walking with classes, with children in pairs
Orchard without Carol? What e’r will they do?
When something was needed to Carol they flew.
To help with a costume, a song or a hat,
With special needs children in classrooms she sat.
At copying worksheets, nobody was finer
Sick pupils or staff? There was nobody kinder.
If ever a problem arose in the school,
There was always one person! No! Nobody’s fool!
Her great common sense, for which she was known,
Would steady the ship with her calm dulcet tone.
You’ve had such an impact, on everyone’s life
Coping with school, a mum and a wife
You’ve cared for our welfare. We’ll remember your name.
In the words of a film, “You‘ve been one swell dame!”
