I started teaching in Hounslow Middlesex 1979 and enjoyed clasroom teaching until the introduction of the National Curriculum.Whereupon the hard pressed classroom teacher had to cope with year upon year of change. National Curriculum folders were introduced, then added to, then scrapped, then redesigned. Record books were introduced then modified then scrapped. Afterwhich came the ultimate torture OFSTED.
It was all too much for me... I quit the classroom.
I quit a job I would have done for nothing, for I and my colleagues enjoyed the job so much. We were innovative, enthusiastic, adventurous... but all that ended with the changes introduced.
In my last year, to relieve my stress, I started writing my poems that are all based on fact...they actually happened or... well things were certainly going that way. I published them myself and still have a few books left, should you want one.
Read, enjoy, empathise, sympathise.... if you've been through it you'll know what I mean. Anyway hope it makes you smile.
And what of me now?
Now I do what I enjoy....I tutor excluded pupils which entails very little unnecessary bureaucracy. My efforts go into my teaching and enthusing the young people with whom I work . And I also have plenty of time to run a local club for young people which takes up the rest of my free time. You can find out about our activities there at....
