saving feathered angels, one day at a time

UPDATE FROM SANCTUARY PRESIDENT

Hello to all,

I am taking the time to personally address all of our current members and friends who visit frequently, and to welcome all new members who stumble upon our site. If this is your first time to visit, and you have questions, PLEASE, feel free to write or contact us personally, for your concerns will be addressed and answered in a timely fashion and manner.

Recently we have some individuals who have , for whatever reason, chosen to remain anyomous, come to this site and begin Posting untruths, basically, Lies!   If anyone has a problem with me, Mary or our facility or anything we do , I have said this many times in the past that i would be most happy to address these issues, and all that i ask is that anyone who has negative comments or feedback to do me the courtesy to put the real name and a real contact phone number, so that we can discuss as adults And , to date, the only people that have had any negative comments about us or this sanctuary, REFUSE to be honest and open , giving their real information, as we have asked so many times..  Yes, we are crowded, and NO we do NOT have 250 birds... Do we SELL birds?  NO we DO NOT SELL BIRDS...   And Yes we have had quakers and nanday conures dropped off here to be carried to other facilities, and we have paid our dues... But because we helped we were punished.. Its done, Its over... So get on with living... We are...

We are now trying to implement a FOSTER PROGRAM, and  beginning later in the year, we are beginning a sponsor ," A BABY IN NEED" program. For more info, contact us at mjcat66@bellsouth.net  or maxhagood@yahoo.com  and put in the subject line programs in your sanctuary.. We will get back to you as soon as possible or time permits...

Once again, in closing,  let me reiterate that if you have a problem with the service that this sanctuary offers, PLEASE contact one of us directly, with the real information, and we WILL address the issue or issues that you may have...

Also, to the one who posted that touching and heartfelt letter about our facility, I can only say a heartfelt thank you from the bottom of my very soul... Your words and kindness mean the world to us, especially in these times when people post such ugliness... Thank you once again...

Sincerely,

Dennis Hagood, President of Triple H Sanctuary

For the Hagood family, and Triple H.

I hope sincerely in my heart that the one that wrote the very ugly post on the site 19 or so hours ago reads this.. And most of all, takes it to their heart...

I did not illicit this response... Not at all, but thankfully there are still some people left out there that know what we do here and know the truth... For it seems that the one or ones that wrote the post on our guestbook  know absolutely NOTHING about us at all...

I have chosen to leave that post on the site, and let the authorities see this for themselves, which will happen today... So, a heartfelt thanks to Kim.. She is my sister in this endeavor, and my sister in life... Kim, We love and need you here.. Please come home...back to Tennessee..

This message is from mary and dennis and John hagood...

For the Hagood family, and Triple H.

Hello!
I would just like to let folks know that the ugly rumors and messages that have been circulating on this site, and elsewhere are completely untrue. I had the pleasure of seeing for myself the good work that Dennis, Mary and John do with these birds everyday. The responsibility is so immense, that not many people can comprehend it.
It really bothers me to see these good people trashed like this, considering that they are picking up the messes that irresponsible people create, and some of those people are choosing to post horrible things based on what? Jealousy? Boredom? Anger? Get angry about the RIGHT thing, and help stop the mindless abuse, and neglect that animals go through every day. HELP Dennis and Mary continue to save these birds.
Alot of what the posters are complaining about is space. Everyone knows that ALL shelters and sanctuarys are at their peak all over the country...Not just this one. Most shelters will make the room for that "just one more" pet...why?? Because its the RIGHT thing to do. Because no matter how big the shelters get, there will always be that "one more animal" that isn't being loved or cared for properly. We can save most, but not all.
Now, to address the issue of stealing birds.
I have not known these people all of my life, but I feel like I have. I do, however, have enough experience with them to know, in my heart that this is not true. Consider this....you see a bird on TV, in a pet store, and decide that you MUST have one....say it's one of those sweet baby white birds...you know the ones...they are so loveable, soft, cuddly, and so CUTE!! You just HAVE to have it. So you save, and save your cash just to get this bird....You buy all the necessary things, cage, dishes, perches, toys, food...the works. By the time you have finished, you have spent well over a thousand dollars. You will keep this bird FOREVER....NEVER give it up you tell yourself. And your very satisfied and settle in with a sweet baby Cockatoo.
Now maybe a year or so goes by, all goes well. Your bird is learning a word or two, is wonderful to have around and is a great conversation piece. All your friends want to see, and experience this baby.  You happily oblige, showing off your skills at raising and taming such a wild, exotic creature to do whatever you ask of it.
....THATS PART OF THE KEY, FOLKS. PARROTS ARE EXOTIC. EXOTIC ALWAYS MEANS SPECIAL CARE BEYOND THAT OF A CAT OR DOG. EXOTIC MEANS YOU WILL HAVE TO LOOK FOR THE RIGHT FOODS, THE RIGHT VET, THE RIGHT MEDICINE. EXOTIC MEANS YOU HAVE TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO CARE FOR THIS ANIMAL FOR THE REST OF ITS LIFE! DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW LONG THAT IS? IN THE LIFE OF A BIRD, IT CAN BE UP TO 60+ YEARS. ARE YOU READY FOR THAT?
Are you really ready for that??
Next, you see that your bird is chewing up her toys, and going through them faster than you can replace them...and boy, they arent cheap!  You just cant keep spending 20$ apiece on toys...thats rediculous, right? So you dont buy so many toys. And the bird improvises...uses anything it can to satisfy the need to chew...including your furniture. In the cage the bird goes...for longer and longer periods of time. This is the only way you can control this bad behavior, you tell yourself. What is wrong with this bird, you want to know. What happened?
Then comes the screaming. If you have never experienced a Too's scream, then please..find a place to do so...Lord knows there are enough unhappy Too's to be found. Quick and easy way is to go to MyToos.com....make sure your speakers are up all the way, and be sure its about 7 or 8 in the AM so your neighbors can enjoy your experience right along with you.  Anyway...so your bird starts to scream every time you leave the room, every time it hears your voice outside of it's space...it calls you. Wants you back in the room...wants your attention...just like a toddler in a playpen. You just cant do this anymore, you tell yourself....you just want an hour of peace and quiet! So you cover the bird. Or put it in another room, away from activity...or worse yet, cover it and put it in a closet.
What, your shocked?
Dont be, it happens all the time.
Now your friends notice that your bird is different...unruly and loud, and ugly. You decide to sell it. Yes, thats it...sell it to get some of your hard earned money back. Sell it to someone that can stand the noise...you sure cant. So you post that ad. Weeks, even months go by...no bites. After all, who has 1-2k to spend on a bird? And you have to "recoup" that cost, dont you? After all....you just made a mistake...a bird isnt the pet for you. You now think a dog would be better.
In the meantime, the cast aside (insert any species of bird here)....turns it's attention to itself. With nothing else to chew, and no more hugs and love, it starts to pull out feathers....it's something they can control in their lives....then, with the feathers gone, the skin starts to look good. The endorphins that are released when the bird pinches itself, oddly make it feel better. Then the pinch becomes a bite, and the bite bleeds. It becomes an open sore that the bird continually picks at....needing that rush of endorphins to feel anything in the dark and lonely world it now resides in. You are horrified when you actually take the time to look at the bird...boy you will never get your money now...just look at what this bird has done to itself. You know the bird has got to go. You feel guilty, but can do nothing. You dont know how. So if you have any decency left, you call a rescue person, desperate to be rid of the bird....hoping to God above that it lives...so you wont get in trouble....If your a person that wont make that call, hopefully someone does it for you. You meet this person and reluctantly agree to give up the bird...you need to be rid of it so badly that it doesnt matter to you where it goes, as long as its gone...but you dont say that...you keep that thought to yourself. You cry, and want to be updated on the birds progress....the sympathetic bird rescuer obliges you, takes your info, and off they go, with "your" bird in tow.
Now this is another place where people get confused. That bird is no longer yours. When the rescue people come, you relinquish that bird forever. They do not come and take on a bird to fix the problems you created, just to give it back to you ten months later when it is looking better. It is no longer your bird...IT IS NO LONGER YOUR BIRD! But you feel that the rescuer now owes you something...anything. The bird has recovered, much to your surprise, so you still feel that you should have the money you spent, or the bird back. The rescuer rightly refuses.
Is it any wonder that this person feels that their bird was stolen??
         No, its not.
However, it does not make the rescuer a theif. But all the same, rescuers all over end up in court by angry pet abusers claiming theft. Go figure.
         Breeding issues.
In any bird environment, there will be attraction. There will be bonding, and mating of birds. That does not make the rescuer a breeder. If you witness a bird mating in your presence at a rescue, that does not automatically mean that the birds will have a clutch. Many rescuers allow their birds to bond, mate, and even sit on eggs, pulling the eggs after a bit, or replacing them with dummies. The bonding and mating process can for some birds, be a very crucial part of the rehabilitation process..especially for the smaller species. They are more petite, and often times do not need, nor can they tolerate as much personal handling as the larger parrots do, so they turn to each other for their preferred form of bonding...birds instead of people. There is not a thing wrong with this type of rescuing....please tell me, where's the fault there?
Triple H does get in breeder birds. Of course they do. That doesnt mean they breed them. That doesnt mean they sell them. I have seen these folks pay to get a bird out of a horrible situation because no matter how bad off the bird was, the abuser would not relinquish without cash...and try to get the authorities to step in.....doesn't happen. These birds would sit in their own feces forever if it weren't for people like Dennis, Mary, and John.
I do hope that these horrible postings do not tarnish the reputation of Triple H. These folks completely know what they are talking about, they know what they are doing. Authorities have been in many rescues over the years, including Triple H. Are they shut down? No. Have they ever been in trouble for a living condition violation? No. The truth of the matter is that Triple H provides a valuable public service whether or not you agree with that. They provide a safe, loving, knowledgeable home to abused birds. Are they crowded? Sure, every rescue is....so stop complaining/threatening about it, and help them overcome it. Does someone have an outbuilding to donate? Construction services? A refridgerator for bird items? Toys? Would anyone offer to go and pick up newspapers for them like they do every week to line the birds cages with daily? No, they dont use litter like some places, because newspaper allows you to see the first signs of illness in birds, their droppings....they are vigilant about this, and many other things. Would anyone care to drop off some of the many gallons of spring water that the birds can, and do use daily? Because THEY sure make sure it is available to the birds as often as they need it, ATLEAST twice a day...and if you have a parrot that likes to make "parrot soup" its more spring water. Just do the math for once.
I have faith that the good in people will prevail. I have faith that people that care to spread untrue tales will eventually come to terms with whatever their demons are, and leave this rescue alone. If we allow untrue words to destroy what Triple H has so lovingly built, then birds and bird lovers all over will suffer the loss.
Step up, and solve the problem instead of listening to gossip. Step up and donate. You will see the progress that your dollar or two can help to bring about. This is not about money, this is a labor of love. You dont have to give cash to anyone, seeing as not a soul around can stand to hand over a physical dollar to these people, or anyone else for that matter. Take an afternoon and bring up a few jugs of spring water, or a bag of food, or a pile of newspapers.....dont just expect them to pick up your mess.
I proudly say, that I learned most of what I know about parrots from these people, and I am still lacking in comparison. Rescuing is not for everyone. It takes a special spirit, a special family to do the things necessary to sustain life to a "bunch of birds".
You may think its easy, and financially rewarding. You are mistaken. It is backbreaking, heartbreaking and financially taxing, and the most common reward is the return of love, or the glimmer of trust, in the look of an animal.
What you dont understand, you will experience, what you judge, you will become.

July 2008 update

Greetings all,

Well, its already July 2nd 2008! Can we believe our year is this far gone already? Well, anyway, hope this update finds everyone doing well. We are working very successfully with Bogie. He is a beautiful umbrella cockatoo whose former owners  just did not have ample time to give Bogie what he needed, constant attention, so we have him here, and he is doing fabulous. The former owners are just super folks, and now are our friends.

Also, wanted to say Happy 4th to all. Hope your holiday is safe and happy.. If traveling, be sure to travel safe, buckle up, and remember, its that time of the year again. 100 DAYS OF SUMMER HEAT... just be careful.

until the next update,

June update, 2008

GREETINGS ONE AND ALL...

welcome all new members to our site... welcome all visitors too... We love our new members and our new visitors.. Glad you stopped in..

News update for June 2008....

The new arrival, Bogie is doing fabulous.. He is settling in well, and as loving as he can be.. We are taking it slow with this big boy.. He is just such a sweetie and his last owners, well they are just great.  We love getting in new arrivals, but we also love to have the friendship and trust as well...

We are experiencing  a heat wave again of sorts.. Its coming early soz here are some tips for keeping your birds healthy in this hot weather...

1. Be sure to keep fresh COOL CLEAN water in for your bird at all times... CLEAN WATER MEANS HEALTHY BIRD.. just what the doc ordered..

2. Be sure if you are keeping your parrot out of doors that its been properly acclimated to this weather.. You cannot put a bird outside in this heat if they have not been already accustomed to the heat. Do it slowly, and if your bird has been in the house all this time, DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO PUT IT OUT IN THIS HEAT.. JUST DON'T DO IT..

3.. Keep fresh fruits and veggies in for only short periods of time.. Once you see your parrot has finished with its fresh fruits and veggies, REMOVE them.. These food items are quick to grow dangerous bacteria and this can make your bird very sick or even worse.. So, remove any and all uneaten pieces of fruit and vegetables and just throw these away.. you can always put in more later.. FRESH, its the only way to feed....

4... Wash all fresh fruits and veggies in warm clean water BEFORE feeding it to your bird.. Bacteria can kill and you do not want to take chances.. WASH WASH WASH..

5 Use common sense in caring for your bird or birds.. And remember, if you are in doubt about giving your bird some food item, THEN DO NOT GIVE IT..

You and your birds out there have a great summer..

something i wanted to share

in case anyone out there has not heard, The Gabriel Foundation sends out regular newsletters to those that have signed up for the letter. Our newsletter arrived a couple of days ago, and what ait held inside was enough to make a grown man cry. Inside were 3 pictures of newly arrived parrots at the facility. The worst, a beautiful green wing macaw. This bird, supposedly in her middle 20's had an overgrowth of her beak so bad she squeaked when she tried to speak. It was enough to make me cry too.. Also, was a very neglected Orange wing amazon, who had sat in its own feces for over 2 years, and below the bird was a huge pile of at least a foot of feces piled up to show for it. Once the people from Gabriel foundation took the birds, immediately 2 inches of beak came off the greenwing macaw, and into quarantine all went.. the third bird was a precious little cockatiel that the lady could not even recall its name.. Folks, all i can say to this nightmare is how sad..  How sad for anyone to claim to own and love an animal and not even know its name... If you have animals, they deserve much better than this.. If you cannot care for them, please, for the sake of the poor animal, give it up to someone who can and will love it... Its for its own good, and possibly yours too..

We try to always be available for people to pick up their phone to call us. If you need to talk to one of us, call, if you fail to get one of us, leave me a voice mail.. i promise i check my voice mail often. Remember, here we have birds. With those birds comes chewed phone cords.. lol.. so if you fail to reach me, its not i am ignoring you, but rather someone here may have just snipped the cord.. as soon as one of us notices, i promise i will get it taken care of... i promise, so, remember, if you need us, we are here.. we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and if we cannot answer, i will point you in a direction for you to get the help you need.. we won't leave no one stranded...

Please remember, its hot, keep fresh and clean water available for your birds at all times... Birds have fast metabolism rates... keep good food and clean water available at all times...

Happy Summer 2008!!!

Update for May 2008

Greetings all,

Hope this spring weather is nice for everyone. We are truly enjoying the spring smells, the honeysuckles are my favorite. The birds are certainly enjoying the outings in this beautiful sunshine. The few days we have had severe storms have found us spared, thank goodness. There were 2 days in particular we were very worried. The weather came very close to being us involved in an outbreak of violent tornadoes. But, thank goodness, we were spared, and our hearts go out to those that weren't... May God be with them and their families.

Now, on to news... Our President, Dennis just celebrated his 41st birthday last Friday.. Happy Birthday to you... Now, we have had a new arrival.. Errata, the beautiful scarlet macaw. Wow, what a gorgeous bird... this bird is at least 30 years old, loves to be loved but from a distance, but we are making progress by leaps and bounds.. The rest of the flock are doing excellent. We have new sun conures that are talking... yep, they say NIGHT NIGHT... i never thought it possible for suns to actually speak, but these do... How cute...

also, once more, for the record, Our sanctuary, TRIPLE H, does NOT adopt out birds... we tried this in the beginning, but due to people abusing our kindness, make it now impossible for us to trust again. We do however have a new helper on board.. Lisa from lawrenceburg, who donated a nice stainless steel cage for large birds has joined us and we are happy to have her and her family...

So, this is about all the news we have for now, if you need our help, ie, nail or wing trims, please call us... we are available for emergencies 24 hours a day.. just call, we will gladly help... Happy Spring! and Happy Memorial Day.. a special thanks to all  of those brave men and woman who have and are serving... Your service to our country is GREATLY APPRECIATED.. Without you, we would NOT be free. Freedom is certainly NOT Free... so thank you for your service to our country...

March update 2008

Greetings one and all.. Hope these first 3 months have proven prosperous.. We have had some minor issues to deal with, but so far, all is well.. Kim Wixon has moved recently to an undisclosed location. We will surely miss Kim.. Hope you are doing well, enjoying your new home state, and keeping up with your bird rescueing.

Also, some new arrivals are set to get here very soon.. a new white fronted amazon parrot, Ralphie, over 20 years old, will soon be joining us. He hails from Chicago..we are looking forward to you getting here..  Also welcome 4 new lovebirds.. 2 of the newest arrivals are peach front and lutino colors, and the first pair which hailed from clarksville, Tennessee are both peach fronted and were true rescue cases. When we picked them up in mid February, the family that was kind enough to be caring for the 2 of them got them from a house just down the street, abandoned and hungry, in a cage far too small. The cage these guys were in was strictly for finches ONLY.. no lovebird should have ever had to live in that cage, but, due to the kindness of this wonderful family, these guys are here now, in a large free flight cage enclosure, doing absolutely fantastic. So, for the couple in clarksville with the wonderful children, your kindness is unsurpassed.. Those 2 birds were in pretty rough shape upon arrival. but since arriving, a lot of TLC and good food, they are not nearly back to full feathered and are doing just wonderful. Katie, our baby lutino lovebird  that we are handfeeding continues to thrive as well. That baby , if you recall, was kicked from the nestbox by her parents.. We were asked to handfeed to save her life, which we gladly did.. we believe katie to be a female, and she continues to do very well.  Also, we would like to report that Bunny foof went with Kim to her new location, and is doing absolutely fantastic as the ONLY pet kim has that hops.. Kim has her 2 companion dogs, Bokie and Shunka, but outside the 2 dogs and her son, Justin, she has Bunny Foof.  we are grateful for the home she provided to Ms Bunny..

check back often. I am trying very hard to keep updates coming regularly.. due to more recent sickness, its been very difficult to maintain this website and keep it completely current, but again, i am trying, so bear with me. Until next update, Blessings one and all... and remember, If you need us or our services, do not hesitate to call us at 931 363 9000 or email us at mjcat66@bellsouth.net hope to hear from you soon!!

February Update 2008

Hello all,

Hope that your February 2008 has been prosperous, warm and great. Ours has been ok i guess...nothing major to report... We have a new arrival, Katy, our new lovebird baby.. abandoned by her mom and dad, we were asked to hand feed and give the baby a forever home, which we of course gladly did. We are handfeeding her currently and enjoying it very much.. She, we think, is pastel yellow, and appears at this time to be an Australian Cinnamon... she , we think, is absolutely gorgeous, and eats like there is no tomorrow... lol.. just a doll baby... we are pleased to report that for the past 2 weeks katy has been enjoying life here with us, and thus far, no plans to have her go to any other home... other than here...  We also have a new pair of sun/jenday conures, which are gorgeous...

Also, UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY 2008 AND CONTINUING FROM NOW ON... NOTE FROM PRESIDENT...

2008 is going to be great, but new rules hereby apply... it will be an exiting new chapter for us here at Triple H... we are issuing in a new era of rules for fostering and accepting in new arrivals... Unfortunately, due to the circumstances and unfortunate events leading up to this decision, we are now forced to REQUIRE all new bird arrivals to have RELINQUISHMENT FORMS SIGNED UPON OUR ACCEPTING ANY PARROT OR PARROTS INTO OUR FACILITY, without paperwork, NO BIRD, NO HELP OR SERVICE... furthermore, we , at the sole discretion of the president, may or may not require a PICK UP FEE on birds farther than a 50 mile radius from our location. If we are going to be in your area, we can try to make prior arrangements to pick up your bird, however, if we have to make a special trip to retrieve your bird, we will  require a possible PICK UP fee, again, this is up to the sole discretion of the president and is case dependent. we  are not imposing these new rules to discourage anyone from calling on us for our services, however, if we are to remain in business, we must make some changes... we hope all understand... Last but not least, any other services we provide by members of this facility do come with case dependent charges, again, deemed by the president... If you have questions, or wish to discuss any charges, please by all means give us a call or contact us via email, and we can and will gladly discuss these policies with anyone asking.

Have a great rest of the month, and look for new updates to come soon....

also, get well wishes to the vice president, Mary, who was in the hospital just 2 weeks ago...

REMEMBER!!

Hello again,

I wanted to remind everyone again, i have done this several times already, but i will do it again for those that may not  have known.. We are a SANCTUARY.. this means just this, we accept your bird or birds, but WE DO NOT REHOME.. we ONLY will discuss rehoming of any bird if the former owner agrees.. and only if the former owner agrees.. We get requests from people daily to adopt birds, but, unfortunately there are too many people in this world named TIM JARMAN and i won't send any bird from this sanctuary into a situation such as his..  If you wish to relinquish your bird into our facility, be prepared to sign documents showing you are giving up your bird to our care, and that you agree that you can no longer care for the bird, not that you do not love or want your bird any longer, you just are at a place in your life you cannot provide what the bird needs.. we ask no questions, and respect your decision to give up your bird. its your decision... it is what it is.. we vet our birds with an excellent vet in nashville. if you have a bird you need our help with please do not hesitate to call.. we are here to help.. in spite of the nasty comments we hear, we are still here to help.. if you need us, call.. if its an emergency, call us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.. we are here to help any hour if its a true emergency.. also, we are happy to help you try to keep your bird if you wish to discuss that too.. any questions about us, just call.. we are happy to talk to you.. thanks so much for your continued trust...

UPDATE AT TRIPLE H........

G

glad to have you back to visit. we are trying very hard to keep updates current this year.

Its January 16th 2008. Wednesday, and today we had a beautiful snow.. although it did not accumulate much, its still very beautiful to watch. the birds were not sure what to make of the falling snow.. i only allowed a couple to actually see the snow from outside. we stood only for a few moments, and then returned to the warm house.. I think we actually got like 1 or more inches, but it will not last, its now raining. Hope all of your january remains great.. we want to welcome in a beautiful cockatoo, Monty.. he is a bare eyed, now here for good. Monty arrived on Friday January 4th 2008 and upon arrival was very nippy. But, after 2 weeks of TLC, monty is now a doll baby.. He loves to sit in my lap, sleep in my lap and eat everything i eat.. we are so proud to have little monty.. we already have a goffin cockatoo, and the personalities are very similar, but yet still very different.. he is just a joy..  visit often, we are still going to try to do pictures soon... happy 2008 everybody!!!

Update, after Christmas

Greetings one and all,

Hope the holiday season for 2007 was good for all.. I have to say, we are very pleased to see 2007 gone.. Truly, we have had much better years, and we are hoping that this new year 2008 is better in every way for all of us...

News of the birds... well, all i can say is we are doing great.. the birds are all happy healthy and doing fabulous.... We want to also welcome our newest arrival, MONTY... he or she, we are not sure, it don't matter we are not breeding... welcome MONTY...

Monty is a beautiful bare eyed cockatoo, approximately 3 or so years of age, and is absolutely precious.. monty's story is unclear, but we do know he is just a living doll.. If you wish to know what a bare eyed cockatoo looks like, go to www.google.com and put in the search term , BARE EYED COCKATOO, and see what they look like.. i promise, if you love these toos, you will adore these guys.. small like  the goffin, but yet full of personality.. what a wonderful bird...

also, news otherwise.... We are sad to report a very tragic event... a dear dear friend of ours called on us on Friday for our help.. a clutch of 3 sun conures were in trouble.. prior to the friend obtaining these guys, each were being handfed where they were before.. The person doing the handfeeding was obviously a NOVICE...  We were called in to  very serious emergency.. 2 of the 3 baby sun conures were in trouble.. they had severe crop burns... bad enough to require intervention...  2 of the 3 had large HOLES in their crop area that was completely emptying the hand feeding formula as soon as it was taken in.. a sad sad day was yesterday, sunday.. our friend phoned to inform us of the one little sun conure, the one the crop burn was the worst died yesterday morning.. we were very saddened to hear this unsettling news...

PEOPLE LET ME SAY THIS NOW...  IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY HAND FEED THESE BABY BIRDS, FOR GODS SAKE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANY HANDFEEDING AT ALL... NONE WHATSOEVER!!

All your inexperience can possibly do is to cause detriment to the lives of the parrot babies... Its sad to say this, but as bad as the burn was, this poor baby sun is far better off now, and believe me, i do not say that lightly.... in fact, it was so badly burned it had not had proper nurtition in days...sad.. just sad...  this was all accidental... but accident or not, the life is now gone... Perfectly healthy babies, quickly went bad, and now 1 has passed away, and this is all due to the incompetence of a inexperienced hand feeder... please, please please, if you just MUST hand feed, make absolute certain, absolute sure, that you check the temperature of the handfeeding formula BEFORE feeding it to any baby bird... always, always make sure its no hotter than 110 degrees farenheit.. always, check..  the older of the 3 babies is doing great, the younger is also doing good, so far.. but, there is still one little baby badly burned.. intervention was done, but until a few days pass, there is no way of knowing if it will survive either...

PLEASE CHECK WITH A VET OR A VERY EXPERIENCED HANDFEEDER BEFORE YOU EMBARK ON HANDFEEDING YOUR BABIES... FOR ITS SAFETY AND YOUR PEACE OF MIND...

News at Triple H!!

Greetings again,

hope all is well.. we are all ok, birds are all doing great.. we are again, not decorating for the holiday season... Its safer to NOT decorate, at least for us. Birds are very curious creatures  and can get into more in 2 minutes than we as adults can get them out of in 4 hours.. They are like kids, small toddlers to be exact.. if its on the floor, and tiny, they are into  getting it into their open beaks... My starbuck, an umbrella cockatoo, loves to scavenge the floor looking for no seeums... those are the things we do not see.. but guess what, these eagle eyed birds do not miss anything.. Oh no, far from it... if its see able to them... its in their beaks.. and most of the time, its not harmful, but why take the chance... that is why we do not decorate...

Watch the gift wrap and bows... they are too good targets for birds to eat... Just be safe.

hope all have a great christmas... happy holidays!

Please Take Immediate NOTICE!!

Please Folks,

PLEASE take Note of this.... We are  SANCTUARY, privately owned and operated... We accept , gladly, your bird or birds into our heart and home, HOWEVER, please make or take note, IF YOU GIVE UP YOUR BIRD, we WILL NOT BE GIVING IT BACK.. this is unless a signed agreement signed by all members of TRIPLE H SANCTUARY and the bird owner have signed and agreed fully and 100 percent of the action being taken.

We are just what we say, a private sanctuary for parrots... This means we do this strictly from our hearts, OUR OWN MONEY, and finances and without help from anyone.

we do however receive a donation here and there, and for never any more than 50 to 75 dollars.. We get some food from a vendor in the spring, and other than this, or outside these mentioned donors, THAT IS IT!!!  so if anyone out there believes we are getting rich from this, PLEASE THINK AGAIN... how could we be getting rich??? We feed and house and provide for these birds, and do not ask anyone to specifically help us.. we certainly never get any private donations any more, so if you are thinking otherwise, well think again... also,  we vet these guys on our own as well... Have you been to your local bird vet lately??? apparently not... if so, you would soon realize how expensive that is in and of itelf...

We also buy our own cages, aside from those very precious few cages that are donated... Most birds arrive here in a carrier, NOT IN A CAGE... the former owners choose to keep their cage for a possible bird in their future... Who are we to say that the former bird owners must not have a bird ever again, just because this one did not turn out the way they had hoped...???

We are here to help, nothing more, nothing less.. We work on our own, and not with any other organization... I hope GARY reads this, and soon comes to understand.. we are our own entity.. Birds are not on a set schedule to arrive. we get birds in as they are available to us...  Also, my health problems in no way has any bearing on the care i give to these birds... far from that... you can be sick, and even dying and still love with all your heart.. how silly to think that because i have LUPUS i cannot love these birds... how absurd...

also, on our resident page, please note, I did not say at all we breed or were breeding that large greenwing macaw... Not at all... however, for all the info, the bird has been placed  by someone other than our sanctuary in a breeding program in a different state, and the bird is doing excellent...

So, if there are any comments, please address them via my email, NOT on the website... others DO NOT wish to see your hatred and uglyness..

why subject others to have to read your ugly thoughts... that is wrong, so if you have any comments other than good , please do it through my personal email.. its mjcat66@bellsouth.net and also, you can call me here at 931-363-9000 and talk to me personally... if its that important to be heard then call me.... i will talk to you and discuss your concerns...

thanks, and i am so sorry to have to post this message... please visit often...

update for week of 12 /01 / 07

Greetings again, hope the Holiday season of  2007 is going well for all. We are looking forward to a new year and a new start. Hopefully, 2008 will bring glad tidings... We are always hopeful.

Need to welcome a new arrival. A little girl, Indian Ringneck. She is lime green, and has the sweetest disposition.. She is just precious. She came home from the other place she was in my shirt... aside from her long toenails, she sat so peacful and seemed to love riding in my shirt... at least it was warm.

Next, on the last update, i needed to say this, Planning for the arrival of a new pet, speficially a pet bird, parrot, is major and requires a lot of forethought. One must have already chosen the breed of bird they are going to embark on, the size cage appropiate to the parrot, the food you plan to feed, whether that be seed or pelleted mixes.. There are some very good equally good brands, but these just happen to be the ones we have chosen to feed our flock.

Next, the cage you choose has to be exact. The bird will be in it when you are working, so get it large enough to house the bird or birds in comfortably... this is a must... and remember, you do not always have to go to the pet store and pay pet store prices... Look around, flea markets, yard sales and private sales from other bird owners make great places to buy bird cages..Now keep also in mind NO MATTER WHERE YOU GET YOUR CAGE, WASH WASH WASH AND WASH AGAIN... making sure its good and clean before you put your new bird into this cage... cleanliness is next to godliness.... a good rule taught by our moms, is still good to put into place today...

now, have a great holiday season, and may santa bring you your best christmas gifts ever!!

questions frrequently asked..

Hello all, hope everyone is well... Hope all had a great thanksgiving and hope your upcoming Holiday season is fantastic... now, with that said, i want to address some frequently asked questions....

Ok, first off, we get calls regularly from those that want a pet bird... I have no issues with people wanting birds, far from it,but, What i stress to people is to go the the local library or your own internet, and research and research and more research... please, its urgently important for not only you, but for your pet as well.

You want a bird... Well, now that you have made this decision, have you given a single thought to what breed of parrot you want? Its a common request we get here to help adopt or help locate African Grey parrots... This, as far as what we hear from most is due to their incredible talking ability... and true, for the most part, most talk very well, and others talk superbly... But, for those that have their hearts set on a talking bird, DO NOT EVER ADOPT A BIRD FOR THE SOLE REASON THE BIRD WILL TALK...  This is not at all fair to the bird, or to you either.. We have had lots of experience with both the congo african greys, as well as their smaller counterparts, the Timneh African Greys, and some birds are just NOT going to talk... This does not mean the bird is defective, they are not typewriters,  but the fact that that particular bird just is not going to speak... This does in no way effect the quality of the bird as a pet goes, and for the most part, if they do not speak, or talk, the bird will make an overall wonderful pet...

Next, ask yourself what it is you are wanting out of the relationship that you will have with your bird.. Do you want a bird that you can cuddle and hold or do you want  a bird that takes the love and when you are tired or very busy can sit in the cage or on the T stand and be content to be there without your every moment of undivided attention... These are important factors in what pet parrot you choose...

the cockatoo is a very social bird, but, there are many drawbacks to owning a cockatoo... First and foremost, you have to ask yourself how much time, realistically  speaking, you have to devote to that bird... Most people are working at least 2 jobs, some more, others less, and they have kids, and soccer or other sports to attend, and well meaning people get a bird, and soon after realize they have no time for even themselves, much less to give to yet another person or pet in their household.. most come home from work and all they want to do is fall into their chair or favorite spot and crash, which is great, but, if you choose certain breeds of parrots, that is not what needs or must happen... far from it.. we cook for our birds, in spite of what people believe about us, i cook for these guys every day... this is whether or not i eat or cook for myself or my family... they get pasta, corn, goulash, pizza, mac and cheese and other wholesome good food... this is a daily thing, and the cockatoo love hot fresh prepared foods... my first too, bucky, loves,  and i do mean LOVES fresh hot scrambled eggs, and he gets them daily. No matter if i have the flu or whatever, he gets his fresh cooked food....

another bird to consider is a macaw... macaws are wonderful loving birds... Very social too... but, they bite, as all birds do, and you must ask yourself is their bite going to deter me from being a good bird parent.... If you hesitate to think about holding your pet macaw then a macaw may not be your bird to choose.... I had always wanted a macaw, since seeing one in a pass pet store in rivergate when i was very young, i knew i wanted a macaw, so in 2003, we drove to georgia, met a nice man, and for my birthday that year, we got a blue and gold, and have not regretted it since... she is or he, we are not sure, and we do not care, we ARE NOT BREEDERS... this bird calls me momma... how is that for a pet... this macaw is just fantastic... but, i have spent time with this bird,  and my family has as well, so this bird is very well socialized..

If you visit this facility, it will be obvious how much work and love we put into this sanctuary.... We have hardly any birds here that cannot be held by anyone that comes in...  This don't just happen... oh no, we work very hard, take bite after bite to get these guys back to being social... after all, birds by nature are very social creatures, and its not until a bad experience or many bad experiences with former owners that they come to distrust people..... But one thing stands true, once a bird is abused or neglected, the trust factor is by far the hardest thing you will ever atttempt to regain... birds are slow to trust again once they have lost that initial trust...

as far as the larger birds go, they make wonderful pets, but, keep in mind all breeds have their own unique traits and offer vastly different things as a pet...

Now, moving on to the beautiful conures... Wow, they are gorgeous.. there are so many conure breeds to choose from, and all , for the most part are wonderful... Now, this is a drawback for these guys, they are loud... with the exception of the dusky head, most are screechy.. that is a funny word, but anyone that has ever been owned by a conure knows exactly what that word means... lol...   A sun conure is a superb pet.. They are very social, funny little guys... Our first conure was a sun... she is the apple of her daddy's eye... oh yes, she sleeps in his shirt most every night... that was not by accident either... She was brought in to the house in late september of 2003 amd we were still hand feeding her... its a she, even though we have never had her tested, its just a fact we know... So, anyway, it turned cold, i had to be hospitalized, and being afraid she would get chilled and sick,  Dennis, or daddy, placed her in his shirt to get the body warmth for her to keep her warm, and seeing how well she enjoyed her time in that shirt, she has loved it ever since.. so, that is her spot... She was soon joined by a second sun, soleil, and she too resides nightly in that same spot... they are just too cute... Then, you have the other conures, and unfortunately there are far too many breeds of conures to put them all on here, but conures are a great bird to look at, but if you have neighbors such as in an apartment, you may want to rethink a conure, the noise may not be suitable for apartment dwelling... just make sure there are no odinances for noise... if not, check out the conures on line... they are great..

Moving on, the small parrots also make great little pets... One in particular are the Senegals... wow, they are super.. we have 3, one we bougth as a pet from a man in murfreesboro some 4 years ago, and the others are rescues... all 3 are just precious little pets... hardly any noise at all... so, if you have a place that you cannot have a lot of noise, these little guys make EXCELLENT pets... they are , for the most part, very  low maintenance... now, this don't mean not to take them out and socialize them.... far from that, but, should you have a day that you are strapped for time, they understand and are very forgiving... they are just great little guys.... and the other piocephalus parrots are just the same... the african grey, the largest of that group requires the most attention, and even so, greys are not cuddle birds... so still you are good on the time isue there...

Now, to my favorite little birds... The ever popular and very beautiful lovebirds... wow, have you looked at the lovebirds lately....??? they are some of the most beautiful birds out there, and the cost for these guys is very very reasonable.. you can usually get one for less than a 100.00 and this usually includes their adequate sized cage... these guys remind me of easter eggs... you just never know what color is gonna come from these little guys... they are powerhouses of pets... they have neverending energy, and if you get a hand fed one, wow, they make very loving little pets.. and i know, i have several hand fed ones, and they are just wonderful... they are for the most part not talkers... I have heard people say their lovebird perhaps talks, but i have never heard one, so i am not saying it did not happen, just that i have never heard one talk...

Next, parakeets... they are great talkers, if you get one and spend time to work with it, they can talk as well as the ever popular african grey... I have witnessed some great talking parakeets... so, yes, they are superb talkers... but, catch, you have to work with them just as you do the larger birds... they are low maintenance too....

now, i have touched on some great breeds for pets... but, here is an issue that no matter what breed of parrot you choose to get , you MUST ALWAYS get the cage that suits your bird and its size.... You must get a cage that gives the bird as much room as possible.. NEVER get a cage too smalll ... this is dettimental to your birds health... It must have room to spread its wings and move about the cage... without touching the other side of the cage...  one of my biggest pet peeves is people insist on getting cages that are far too small for their bird... I get angry... there is no reason for doing this... IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THE CAGE TO FIT YOUR BIRD, THEN YOU CANNOT AFFORD THE BIRD..its that simple... if you cannot get a cage that is right for your bird, then you do not need the bird... its something that you must consider before getting a bird at all... can i afford to care for this pet.... if it gets sick, can i take it to the vet??? if  I have to go out of town, who can i get to come in and care for my bird while i am gone.... you have to get these things in order BEFORE you get a pet of any kind, not just a parrot...

So, if you have any questions,  you can email me at mjcat66@bellsouth.net and just put questions...in the subject line... I will be happy to answer any questions i can, and if i cannot answer your question, we can at least try to refer you to someone that can help... we are here to help, 24/7 and that includes all holidays... Need us, just call...

also, last but not least, we have excellent references if you wish to speak to any of them... just let us know that too... Visits are on appointments only... due to my health problems, and the work schedule of my husband, Dennis, its better to make an appointment BEFORE you just show up... we won't close the door to your visit, and if you have an emergency , then its ok to just show up, otherwise, do make an appointment... we have the right to privacy too, and this is their home too...

thanks,

staff.....

more news.....

Greetings again...  I have to say this again, We do NOT buy birds, Sell birds or Adopt out birds, no exceptions... Its far too difficult on these birds to adjust to so many new homes..

We want to also say that once we accept a bird into the facility, Unless prior arrangements have been made between the staff of Triple H, and the other party,  The rule is NO BIRDS ARE EVER RETURNED to the previous owner unless we see fit....

We do not mind at all picking up birds, however, we reserve the right to charge a nominal trip fee for birds that are over 50 miles one way from our facility... This means we have the right to charge if we choose...

thanks for your understanding... Happy Holidays one and all!!

update, week of November 19th 2007

Greetings to all, Glad to have had some visitors... please come back often.. Thanks to those that have and continue to support us, its nice to know that there are still those people out there that believe in what we are doing, Kim, this is for you.. You have been so much inspiration to me, and we are honored to have your expertise on board with us..

Please be sure to be watching for the new edition of BIRDS USA, we are listed for the first time ever.. We are excited to get this new issue, but so far, we have  been unable to locate this publication on the stores' shelves.

and last but not least, if you have a bird that you need  us to help you with, please by all means get in touch with me or Dennis... we are happy to help, and are always here to do just that...

So, until i update again, HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO ALL...

Wanted to let all know, the delay in my updating has been due to illness on my part. Was hospitalzed in mid October and have yet to get my ,"sea legs" back under me... I will promise to try faithfully every day to update.

We are making slow progress in the case of a new arrival, a umbrella cockatoo. This little bird, a female, has been abused and has severe plucking issues, so keep us in your thoughts and the continued help we are giving to this beautiful little girl...

Happy Holidays to all this beautiful 2007 holiday season... May your wishes be granted in every way... Blessings one and all....

also, before i close this update...

all need to keep this fact in mind. We DO NOT sell birds, adopt out any birds. Now, as always a friendly reminder, WE DO NOT BUY BIRDS...

Having said all these things,  now, all have a great Holiday season!!

message from the President...

This is coming from the president of the sanctuary...

message,

please, if you need our services and feel we have or are helping in any way, help us keep the doors open, after all there are many more birds that need and can benefit from our endeavors... So, please, do try to help us if you can at all.. we do this from our pockets.. and we are a small business, but we are a limited liability company... we cannot take birds in, work with them and just give them back without compensation of some sort... we are not expecting boundless loads of cash, just some help... so, again, if you can help us, please, search your hearts, we can give a receipt and since we are a charitable organization, its tax deductible..  we need  the help...

News

Hello all,

hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.. at least it was cooler than this time 2 weeks ago!!

we managed to survive the heatwave, barely..lol...  Since the heatwave began, we have succesfully killed off 2 air conditioners... we are doing awesome huh? lol..

Also, since the heatwave, we have learned what to do, and what NOT to do in the event of a bird falling ill to a possible heatstroke.. Yes, we now know, and are happy to lend a hand, and now, unfortunately from experience. we near lost our blue and gold, merlin last week from overheating and let me tell you, its not a pretty sight to watch a beautiful bird nearly die from the horrible heat... its tragic to see this occur, and we are so grateful we did not lose our parrot..

So, other than this, news here is pretty dull... not boring, just same same.. All of our residents are doing great, all are happy, healthy and very loved.

we are looking very forward to the upcoming issue of BIRDS USA which will be out on the book shelf probably by November for sale, that has our info in there.. we are so excited about this and hope it helps lots of needy birds..

The planned fund raiser was cancelled by store management, which was beyond our control. we were sorely disappointed, but, we are working on a project for the very near future to do our own fund raiser... keep checking in for updates..

So, other than this, we are pretty much uneventful... We do hope everyone and their FIDS are ok and all is well with everyone...

So, until the next time we update, Take care all!!!

STAFF

Updates

Greetings all,

Well, hopefully everyone has survived this horrible heatwave... man, its been ridiculous, and these poor birds, even though they are housed and under air conditioning every day, its been all but unbearable in here, even on us... its just plain hot people...

So, we need to all keep in mind we are up for that fund raiser the weekend of Labor Day up at the columbia, Tennessee Big Lots store... Please come and support our cause, and support our ongoing and continued efforts to help these feathered babies..

If anyone has not  yet gone to the site of www.mytoos.com please do so... So oftentiimes people only want to adopt cocktaoo or congo african grey parrots, and for all the wrong reasons...

DO NOT adopt a bird just for its talking ability, or lack thereof... Its not worth the headache you give to yourself, or to that poor bird either...

Also, if anyone can help us with a upcoming endeavor, we would be grateful, and so would the residents....

We have dire need of support for a very special little girl, a female gray that needs a new lease on life... We are supporting her needs now, but we need the funds to keep her and get her vetted properly... Poor girl, she is calcium deficient and that is certainly not all she needs...

Now, a quick note... People ask me all the time what it means when a cockatoo raises up its head feathers... Its like a barometer... Yep, when the crest is up, its a sign of fear and emotional issues... However, its also present when the bird wants to play... So, do not always assume that the crest being up means bad...

Also, please, before you embark on a cockatoo as a pet, please go to the site above, the www.mytoos.com and read and re-read, and study... Its far too often that we see such stories here, and its heartbreaking to see so many precious birds in such states...

Cockatoo parrots are by far the worst of all the abused birds we see here on a daily incoming basis... Its even not always the former owners fault... Far from it...  When we want a pet, we want it now... We live in an instant gratification society... Want it NOW and i do not want nor wish nor will i wait... give it to me NOW!!!

Well, if we have the cash, funds and means, we can go out just about at any time, drive to a pet store, or to the local breeders, and get us a new cockatoo, new congo grey, or other bird, and bring it home... And for the most part, do great... But, for those times that we obviously did not thnk our purchase through, and we end up with a pet we cannot care for, we should seek a home where that can happen...

and my pet peeve, my biggest pet peeve is those people that jump on others sites, like the certain list, we all know what i am talking about, and place a pet up to adopt... What is the first thing we read...

We see, pet for adoption... must have references, and the last thing, want a adoption, re-homing fee to ENSURE A GOOD HOME OR A PROPER HOME IS FOUND...  that is a load of BALONEY... period... No one this day and time, with the small exception of a very precious few, care where that pet goes, so long as they get their RE=HOMING or adoption fee...

That money is what speaks volumes and its sickening... I even posted on this certain LIST site, and was flagged... Did that upset me, well yes, but i also expected to be flagged.. when you say something with an element of truth, people tend to get upset... You have always heard that the truth hurts... WELL IT DOES..... especially to those that have to have a loss recovered..

I also see, i paid this and this and this for my bird, and I HAVE TO GET SOMETHING BACK.... HERE IS TRUTH... you will NEVER get back what you put into anything... used cars for example... buy today, return tomorrow, lose at least 20 percent just for driving the stupid car off the car lot... fair, NOPE but what in this dear old miserable world is fair any longer??????

see, i am sick of people wanting to re-home their precious pets, and all they truly really want is that cold hard cash... People stop this nonsense,... find your pet a suitable home, and leave money to your work places... get your cash from pure hard work... that is what we do... and you won't find us re-homing any pets here...  We get criticized to the high heavens for this, but we are in no way planning on ever changing our policies... So, if you have issues with us NOT RE-HOMING our birds, well so sorry.. deal or don't... its our decision, and we stick to our decisions... And so does our best friend and board member and last but not least,  Co partner in this endeavor...

Kimberly Wixon, you are needed, loved and wanted... Many many thanks go out to you for your levels of skill and your commitment of love and work ethic, and your dedication and devotion and most of all for supporting me in the face of pure animomysity and the lack of respect i get from our fellow bird lovers.... your help and love are so much appreciated... thanks and welcome aboard.. we are so glad to have you and your expertise...

So, sorry i got on to my soapbox... i have to do this from time to time.. people are just cruel, and for the most part, mean spirited... So, if you have any mean comments to share about this post, please direct them to my own email, and this is rather than putting those up on the message board... others do not want to share your hatred... So, Tim, Debbie, Sam and Javier, and probably John Begarly,  I  do not care what you think of me and what we are doing... Its no longer my care what you think... so have a nice life... and may you all be deserving of each other...

With this recent heat wave, we all need to be keenly aware of how are birds are faring.. If you keep your beloved parrot outdoors,  its absolutely crucial to make absolutely certain that at all times there is fresh cool clean water available at all times, no exceptions.!!!

Birds drink lots of water, and this is especially true in weather such as we are currently experiencing. Its extremely hot, well over 100 and heat indexes of even higher numbers, so, for the sake of  your parrot, please take extreme caution in giving lots and lots of fresh cool clean water....

also, be aware of your birds poop.. this may sound horrible, but your birds droppings can tell you pretty much all that you need to know about your birds health status... watch for watery droppings... now bear in mind, if your bird is drinking more water than normal due to this extreme heat wave, well its obvious your bird will have more than normal watery droppings...   however, watch for things that are not normal for your bird. that is key. keep track of your birds habits, behaviours and eating patterns... it could save your birds life...

LOST SULFUR CRESTED COCKATOO

We need to alert the community regarding a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo that escaped on or about Monday July 23rd 2007. This was a case and point of the former owner not allowing us to do proper wing trimming to ensure safety of the bird, so, upon attempt to transfer bird to cage, the bird spooked , startled and escaped. Now, we all are well aware of the dangers that lurk outdoors... hawks are prevalent and are great hunters, and the very last thing on earth we want to think about is a hawk eating this poor cockatoo... However, we tried desperately to convince the former owner to allow a simple wing trim, but this was an effort in futility.. He refused, therefore, the bird known as BIG BIRD is now gone.. we  have posted this in several places, but to date, no response and from that, it would seem no one has even seen this lost cockatoo... Please people, if you want to work safely with your bird, any breed, trim wings... its simple, easy, painless and most of all, THEY WILL GROW BACK JUST LIKE FINGERNAILS.... PLEASE be excersise caution when making decisions that will affect you and your parrot buddy....

if anyone finds or sees this lost cockatoo, please call me at our listed number immediately... we are desperately trying to recover this bird... we are very upset and worried.... help us find this bird... thanks , staff

UPDATES AND NEWS!

Well, it seems that when you do not post things that actually need posting, it always comes back to haunt.... Well, this case is of course, no different.

Ok, here we go.... we are going to address this issue, point by point, and in the event we are not clear, please email with questions... ok.....

First and Foremost, We are NOT a BUSINESS... like a business where you go in and buy what you need for your pets... you know, like a WAL MART sort of thing... WE ARE NOT A BUSINESS...

We do not recommend NOT clipping your birds wings, and will tell you this immediately if you ask... and will tell you even if you do not ask... we feel very strongly about this, and some may agree, others may not... its your opinon, we trim wings, so, if you do not want your birds wings trimmed, do not expect us to work with that bird ... no exceptions..

In the event we are working with your bird and you REFUSE to allow us safety measures of wing clipping,  Then WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE if you bird escapes.. We will NOT owe you a bird, we will not owe you money for your bird.... This is a rule we have always had, and we still stand by this rule today... If you want us to work with your bird,   A CONTRACTUAL agreement WILL BE signed and dated, no exceptions, and in this contract, it will outline exactly what you expect us to do, what we expect of you and  so on and so forth... If you are NOT WILLING to abide by our recommendations, then we cannot work with you or your bird...

and last but not least, We are desperately needing DONATIONS to help defray costs of caring for the many birds we have here.. We are not going to close, but,  we do however need help from the community... if you approve of what we are doing, or have benefited from us at any point, please search your soul, and  send us what you can afford... even a dollar helps....  PLEASE HELP US HELP THESE BIRDS....

If you have questions, comments or otherwise wish to comment on anything i have just written, please send it to my attention by email... I am happy to address legit questions and comments... Please also note, these new rules are in NO WAY meant to upset anyone, and certainly not to turn anyone away, but, due to some very unusual circumstances as of late, we are now having to change some of the things we are currently doing... we hope this will not deter anyone from bringing their bird to us... our values and goals remain the exact same as we have always had them, birds are first...  That will never change...

So, in closing this post, please just be sensible about your birds' care... If your bird needs a wing or toenail trim, please let us help, and also, remember, if we do that for you and your bird, we appreciate any help you can afford to do... If you were to utilize a vets services, you can guarantee a hefty bill from that venture... Just a little bit of help goes a long long way... help us to keep on doing this... these birds need us...  and for those that have already given generously, you are appreciated so much more than you can ever know... Rachael and Kiwi, you guys rock!!!

Appearance coming soon!

Greetings all fellow bird nutz!!

we wanted to let all know we are set to have the gang up at a school near kentucky early next week, or around the 22nd of July 2007. We are geared up and ready to go. This is the 2nd annual appearance of the parrots at this private school, and we are thrilled to do this. Our birds love it and the kids, well that goes without saying...

Also, as all may have noticed, We have opted NOT to remove the ugly messages placed on our message board, and for reason being only known to us and a dear friend, Featherly Luv...  After thinking it over, we decided to leave it, allowing the world to see the sheer ugliness of the people out there that call themselves BIRD LOVERS.... How dare anyone feeling so much hatred for us and what we are doing call themselves anything but foul, in the worst sense of the word..

HAPPY SUMMER TO ALL,

STAFF OF TRIPLE H SANCTUARY

NOTE,

WE ARE A SANCTUARY, HAVE BEEN FOR OVER 3 YEARS, WHICH MEANS WE DO NOT RE-HOME BIRDS, NO EXCEPTIONS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK US TO DO THIS..

WE HAVE NO BIRDS AT THIS TIME OR EVER WE NEED TO FIND HOMES FOR... NEW VENTURES ON THE HORIZON... WE MAY BRING BIRDS IN THAT CAN BE RE=HOMED BUT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, WE HAVE NO BIRDS NEEDING NEW HOMES. ALSO, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO START CHARGING FOR OUR SERVICES, SINCE WE ARE NOT GETTING THE DONATIONS WE DESPERATELY NEED, AND WE ARE NOT CLOSING... MORE ON THAT LATER...

THANKS

STAFF

You know, i have been seriously meaning to address one issue in particular, bird ownership... In general, we encourage people to have and own birds as their beloved pets... We do, however, try to help those seeking advice from our staff, understand that birds live for a very long time, that is a long time with proper care and nutrition, and need to be loved and cared for every day... These pets are not just to have today and get rid of tomorrow.  Once you make the decision to get a bird for a pet, its imperative to love and care properly for that pet, else you will have a pet that may perhaps self mutilate or worse, die from lack of proper care and such.

We encourage people to do lots and lots and lots more research on the web, at the library and any other good source of info to get the info that is needed to make the proper decision in which parrot one needs for each particular situation.

Take for example, if you live in a tiny apartment, the last bird you would need to own is a conure of any sort... They are LOUD!!! lol.. but, by the same token, they are precious and make absolute wonderful pets... enough said... great little pets, but loud...

Also, i have noticed that often people want the cockatoo parrots, and i do not blame them one bit.. cockatoo parrots are just breath taking in color, and character is also very hard to turn away from... they are just emotional puddles, and i could have a dozen and all be needy beyond your wildest dreams... which i love... but, some people just do not want to have to deal with a bird that is that needy... and that we understand, so, before you rush out, purchase a pet, make sure, please please please, for the sake of the bird, and your family too, make sure you do your homework... research the bird and breed, then, and only then, feel equipped to make the best choice possible... its the birds quality of life you are endangering if you choose unwisely..

thanks for reading, and if you have questions, please let me know..

Mary and family

I am going to put my email again, and our phone number for those that may not have it to use... its as follows...

email, mjcat66@bellsouth.net. Just be sure to put in the subject line of your email something pertaining to the sanctuary or a parrot in need.

also, our numbers are as follows:   cell is 931-309-1984 and home is as its always been, its 931-363-9000 and, in case anyone wants to have pics taken with the parrots, do not forget that we do that by appointment only... Pics are great keepsakes... have your pics made with your choice of beautiful parrot...

The funds generated by the pics are used to help keep our doors open... and in spite of what people believe, we are not keeping cash for our own benefit... ask anyone that TRULY knows us, and knows how we operate... i will guaranee you that we do not get hardly any donations... and when we do, they go RIGHT BACK INTO THE BIRDS... no exceptions... so do not second guess where the cash is put, its all used wisely..

Greetings one and all!! Want to thank the ,"FEATHERLY LUV" person for the wonderful words of kindness, you just do not know how much that entire post on our guestbook meant to us all... so thanks again... how nice of you to say such kind things.

We are now smack dab in the heat of the summer, and i hope its going well for all.. we had a very quiet 4th, which was how we wanted it. we spent it here, had fireworks here, and all was great. John our amazon guy had a visitor, which we enjoyed and hope returns soon.

We have new arrivals, and all are doing awesome... we have a new timneh visiting, and some others, and we are just having the best time working with each and everyone of the new guys... great birds... but aren't they all???

Its looking like this week, the week of July 16th 2006, we are looking at possibly getting in a couple of needy cockatoo, a moluccan and a umbrella whom is , from what i was told, very fond of shaved legs...  We are hoping for the best with these 2, and certainly will do our best to work and help each as best we can.

Surgery on my rotator cuff went good, still in rehab and am still not sure if its gonna help... hope so anyway...

More surgery upcoming for me... I have a Avulsion fracture on my right thumb, which is very painful, and now i must deal with that to even be able to use my thumb in the future..

So, this is news here, pretty much... If anyone has any questions to ask, or issues to deal with, all one must do is write or call... we are here 24 hours a day to help, and in emergency situations, we are here all the time.. we are here for the benefit of these birds and that is our mission, to do all we can for all we can.

We have help now on board, and soon i will do a profile and update on that help... so, keep checking in, we have lots of good stuff in store... again, i am going to do my best to add pics on my site... i said TRY... lol...

In the meantime, best to all, stay cool.... love always,

THE HAGOODS OF TRIPLE H EXOTIC PARROT SANCTUARY AND REHAB FACILITY.....

Upcoming news

Greetings again everyone! Well, we are just at the brink of SUMMER!!

Has everyone gotten their bathing suits yet?? If not, you still plenty of time to do so. I do not swim, therefore, that issue does not pertain to me.lol.

All is well here with the brats.. Everyone is doing well, getting more spoiled every day.

News:

Upcoming surgery for Mary, vice president. Next week, An Arthroscopy on my shoulder will be done in Nashville, Tenn. at the Summit Hospital. This surgery has been needed since December 4th 2006 from injuries i sustained in a ,"head on" collision with a very drunk driver. That night in December will forever be in my memory as one of the worst and best nights of my life.  That night, i do believe , angels dropped down and picked me up and moved me from harms way. From where i was standing, it was certain that i was to be pinned between the explorer and the perps car, thus crushing my legs. However, due to unforseen hands, i was injured  but can walk!

So, this is news, and until after the surgery  I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial day... Hug your veteran.... Remember, if not for the courage and bravery of those that are currently fighting in foreign countries, and those that have already fought, and given their lives, we owe our very existence to their efforts.... remember our vets!! they are so special...  staff

Frequently asked questions

GREETINGS ALL, HAPPY EASTER!

Its that time again, easter!! Happy Easter to all...  We want to welcome a new arrival.. a new conure named CUDDY!!

Wow, what a beautiful little bird! Joined us last night via Antioch , Tennessee. A white eyed conure, approximately 7 years old, is currently sitting atop my left shoulder grinding his little beak in happiness. This bird had great parents before we got him. We took cuddy in due to the fact the couple have a very young son, and the beak coupled with those little curious fingers, this relationship was not working as they wanted it to work, so we have Cuddy here, and we are so happy to have him. I have sent some pics out to a couple of friends and i hope to have some feedback soon.

Now, to address a commonly asked question regarding how to stop a bird from feather plucking and self mutilation.

well, now that we are going to address this frequently asked question, i want to stress to all that every bird is vastly different, just as we are from one human to the next.

Birds pluck for many reasons, some we can easily spot, other more deep seated issues we may never know.

Its common to see birds pluck and self mutilate when they are bored from lack of stimulation, such as proper toys. Also, birds pluck from boredom from having to stay caged so much of the time. For a bird to be healthy and happy, it needs a minimum of at least 4 or more hours out of its cage, SUPERVISED of course, each and every day. Now, this is not to say that should you happen to miss a day of that time out your bird will immediately began to pluck and self destruct. No, this is not the case in most instances. It takes months of this ,"forgetting" to give your bird a break from its cage to start to cause problems. However, do not take that statement as a reason to get slack and stop allowing your feathered companion that needed time away from that cage..

Cockatoos are so very prone to this destructive behaviour. It is a common complaint for us here to get call after call from concerned families regarding their plucking and screaming cockatoo parrots. I get calls near every day from people that are literally at their ,"wits end" over their cockatoo. Also, Congo Grey parrots as well as macaws can and do pluck if they are not properly cared for.  Again, i will go back to the fact that all parrots, pets that is, have to have that time away from that cage on a daily basis to maintain a healthy attitude. Its just part of owning a parrot, and this is a realistic issue that you MUST deal with BEFORE you embark on a parrot as a pet... You JUST MUST know that you are going to be able to allow that bird SUPERVISED time out of that cage, YOU MUST!!

Now, what if you are already doing these things and your parrot still plucks and self destructs... This is another complaint that we hear all the time...Parrots are like we are, Some are just a little left of center when it comes to their emotional state. Just as we have our quirks, so do our parrots.  Take for example, if you have a congo grey, and you are doing everything as right as you possibly can, and say it still plucks and self destructs, then you know its probably not the best idea to breed that particular parrot to another parrot. Its a commonly known fact, just as it is in humans, you can pass these undesirable traits from generation to generation via breeding those pluckers and self mutilators. So, if your bird plucks, please do not even consider breeding that parrot period... STOP THE CYCLE....

Now, if all else fails, try new toys, new toys and more new toys.. Have so many toys in that birds' cage that when it moves up and down its perch, it literally has to go around those toys to move around. Give it something to do... occupy that bored mind... Just as some people have to have something to occupy their minds every waking moment, so do some birds.. Its just the law of nature... sorry, i know this doesn't help, but its just how it is... if you are going to have parrots, these are some of the things you must be ready to deal with...

Also, plucking is not limited to cockatoos , greys or cockatoos. Nope, sorry, all parrot breeds are prone to plucking. We have personally seen cockatoos, macaws, congo greys, amazons, eclectus' as well as many other breeds that do pluck and for no apparent or obvious reasons... In all cases, if your bird starts to pluck for no apparent reason, TAKE IT TO YOUR CHOSEN AVIAN VET IMMEDIATELY.... this could be a sign, an early warning if you will, that you bird may be sick... Not TERMINALLY ILL, just needs attention that your vet can provide.

we also recommend strongly that once per year you carry your bird to your chosen vet to be given that, "WELL BIRD" check up... we do this for our birds each year in April.

Also during a hard molt, you know when your bird just starts to lose those feathers about 2x a year and get feathers all over your house, yes, you know what i am talking about.. well, that is a regular molt... During this time, its a great tool for you to use HEMP.. its not alive, so please do not attempt to smoke it...lol... Its not for human use, at all... lol.... Give your birds a small amount, like a teaspoon for a couple of weeks, like every other day or so, and see if that does not help the matter immensley... Its like catnip for parrots.... and your bird will most definitely thank you... and you will thank yourself... yes, it makes that much difference... try it, you will see....

you can buy HEMP either online, or at the upcoming NASHVILLE TENNESSEE,  MIDDLE TENNESSEE CAGED BIRD CLUB ANNUAL BIRD SHOW, which is coming up next weekend, or april 13th and april 14th 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee at the fair grounds in the AG building.. admission is  around 4 dollars per person, kids are either free or less... You can buy HEMP at the show, or online at www.wingnuts.com/  also, make sure you try only all natural remedies.. We use camomile tea, as well as HEMP and also, green tea as well, so long as there is no caffeine.. Birds just do not do well with caffeine... SO DO NOT GIVE IT..

also, no chocolate... birds are like dogs and cats, NO CHOCOLATE... birds also do not need salt or excessive sugar... so go easy on those condoments...

All in all, treat your bird as your best buddy... Birds are so special, loving and understanding... When everyone else abandons you, YOUR bird will still be there for you...  After all, aren't birds supposed to be your companion pets???

If you still do not get the answer you are needing to help resolve your issues, you can always email me or call... Email is mjcat66@bellsouth.net and the phone numbers are cell 931-309-1984 and the home number is 931-363-9000 and we are always happy to help...

News at the PARROT PAVILION

 GREETINGS ALL!

We here at Triple H Exotic Parrot Sanctuary want to welcome aboard a new helping set of hands. Kim C.

Kim joined our family last spring, but due to some health problems, was a year getting to really get in and help. Recently, Kim has been absolutely wonderful in helping rehabilitate some peach fronted conures, a cherry head conure and a patagonian conure that was a breeder that has not been turned into a super wonderful pet. Kim has been blessed with a gift.. She can tame even the worst biting parrot out there... amazing! So, everyone please join me in welcoming Kim.. We are so glad to have your helping hands... Thanks,   STAFF OF TRIPLE H!!

News at TRIPLE H!!

Greetings all! Sorry we have been so long in getting back to updating our site.. I have been very ill and hospitalized 2x since January 1st this year, 2007. Hopefully, all is good momentarily. I have health problems, but this hospital trip should do me for a while.. Lets hope so.

Now, down to the new arrivals here at Triple H.. We want to welcome a new cockatoo, a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo named upon arrival ,"ELMO" whom is now going by Layla.. A very beautiful cockatoo to say the least. Next, lets welcome Filo.. a very beautiful and docile little male senegal. also, Susha, a female sun conure. And  we also want to welcome Rusty, another sun conure. And last but certainly not least, lets give a warm welcome to a new Timneh Grey, Pappy!  Pappy joined us last Friday, March 22nd, 2007. This little one will take some work, but that is what we do, and we also have our peach front conures, islander and Kiwi out in a new setting. A dear friend and fellow bird lover is working with these little guys, and doing an awesome job may we add... Keep up the great work, Kim... You are the best!

Please check back again soon. I am sorry for not keeping the updates done as timely as we had hoped for. We will strive to do better...  Happy Easter and Happy Spring all!!

Staff, Triple H....

Happy new year to all, 2007!!!

Welcome all! Hope all had a wonderful christmas, and a great start to our new year, 2007! We are glad you have chosen to visit our site... we have some new arrivals, a lovebird, peaches, a canary, go go, and 4 of the cutest finches ever! Gotta love the small birds, they make the cutest noises... also, we have 4 new cockatiel arrivals too... welcome to all the new arrivals.

Dennis has been working at his new job since early October 2006, and we are happy about that...

For all that may not have heard, on December 4th 2006, around 7pm, Dennis and I and 6 of our birds were involved in a HEAD ON collision.. Our explorer was totalled. Dennis suffered some facial injuries but is ok..I suffered more serious injuries.. I have a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder, and an injury to my right thumb. My injuries will require surgery in the very near future.. So, for christmas, Dennis' parents , for christmas, gave us a beautiful jeep grand cherokee, laredo package, 2 wheel drive SUV and we are grateful... Its gun metal grey and absolutely gorgeous... so, for all they have done and continue to do for us, HATS OFF NANA AND POP, YOU ARE THE BEST!!

Hope all have a happy new year, and please visit our sight often... we are glad to have all of our visitors... Staff!

News to share with everyone!!

Please welcome, Alex the great! During the last month, Dennis and I have been handfeeding 2 clutches of unweaned baby parrots for a very near and dear friend, and consequently, fell head over heels in love with these bundles of joy... However, we could only choose 1 baby to keep... thanks to Howard, we have elected to keep,as our own pet, Alex, an alexandrine parrot, or parakeet. When alex grows up, this is exactly what he will look like... is this not a gorgeous bird?? Also, we have 2 blue mutation indian ring necks as well, all from the same breeder. They have been hand feeding for over a month, and the indian ring necks are near weaning, but alex and allie are still a good ways away from being ready to wean... until that time, we will lovingly keep hand feeding these birds until they are completely eating food on their own, and when we do wean, we will wean to ONLY PELLETS... pelleted diets are far better for your bird than any seed mixture diet. We choose only the very best, we prefer zupreem, but we will use pretty bird as well. due to some vast improvements in the pretty bird line of products, we feel very good about also using their products. We are planning on adding, hopefully, a page of just parrot pics and breeds, but this page will NOT necessarily contain those birds that we ourselves have taken in. We reserve the right to our privacy as do our parrots. We are open to discuss visitiation, but would like to have advance notice of any intended visits... we have set aside certain times we openly invite people in to our sanctuary for visitiation... please feel free to email me for more info.

also, one amendment for the handfeeding... our son, Johnathan Blake, soon to be turning 18 has been monumental in helping Dennis and myself in handfeeding the baby parrots without the help of John, we would surely have had a much harder time in feeding these babies... So, thank you John Blake, we appreciate your contribution much more than you could possibly know.. also, for all the cleaning of cages, feeding of babies and all the bites you get, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts... we couldn't make it without your help... love ya, mom and dad

we hope that every one is having a great summer. we are hanging in, and have new arrivals to care for nearly every day. We have recently received a generous donation for our services... we want to extent sincere thanks to the nice lady, Pat , for everything you have done to help us out... without people such as Pat, we could not continue to do this help we are doing....so, hats off PAT!!! you are a good egg girlfriend!!!

SILLY QUIP FOR THE DAY!

NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY, NO ONE GETS OUR ALIVE ANYWAY!!!! HE IS HANGING ON FOR.........

WE ARE BIRD RESCUERS!

Below is a beautifully written piece that I have adapted to include birds as well as all animals. I want to share this with everyone. Please feel free to copy this to your own sites.  Thanks,

Mary Hagood and family

A BIRD RESCUER

My job is to assist Gods’ Creatures. I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs. I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection. I have bought bird food with my last dime. I have scratched many a plucked body with a bare hand, only to be bitten. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have fallen in love a thousand times, and I have cried into the mangled feathers of a lifeless body too many times to count. I have Animal Friends, and Friends who have animals. I seldom use the word ,”PET”. I always take note and notice of those lost at the road side and my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time. I want to live forever if there are no Birds in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect as animals and then leave them behind? Some may think we are masters of the animals, but animals have mastered themselves…. Something people still have not learned. War and abuse make me hurt for the world, but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind. We are a quiet but determined army and we are making a difference every day. There is nothing more fulfilling than warming an orphan, nothing more rewarding than saving a life, no higher recognition than watching them thrive. There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play who, only days earlier was too weak to eat and very near deaths’ door. By the love of those I have been privileged to rescue, I too have been rescued. I know what true unconditional love really is, for I have seen it shining in the eyes of so many, ever grateful for so very little. My work is never done, my home is never quiet. My wallet is always empty, but my heart is always full…. I am a bird and animal rescuer…..
