Fun bird facts...
Birds just make Great pets.. what other pet will tell you it loves you upon your return from a long hard day at work??? Certainly not a cat or a dog... Not downing those as great pets because they are... but birds are just so special... We have a grey that sleeps in my lap nightly... he will ask me to allow him to go,"night tired" and that is my cue to allow him to come over and perch upon my knee and there he sleeps for 12 hours... Birds are just the best... Also enjoy the all knowing crystal ball.. its fun...

I have decided to post some of our success stories for all to read....
In April of 2004 a wonderful cockatoo came into our lives. His name is Starbuck. He is approximately 25 years of age, that is according to best guess, and is quite a character. Starbuck, upon arrival was pretty much plucked bald. He had no wing feathers, no tail feathers and no chest feathers. We carried this precious angel to the vet and he was malnourished and needed lots and lots of TLC.. which we were happy to give. Soon afterwards, starbuck began to re-grow some feathers, and as time went by, more and more grew in and he is now fully feathered, with the exception of his tiny spot on his chest, which due to damage to the follicles, will not regrow. We are so happy with this progress that the minor detail of those few feathers makes no one here any difference. Starbuck is so happy, healthy and has gotten some body mass, and loves all of us. He does not know what a caged existence is any longer and only goes into a cage to eat and drink, and its only if he chooses. He is never made to do anything he does not wish to do... We are so thankful that he joined our family April 7th 2004 and we do not know what we would do without him...
Also, in February of 2005 a beautiful senegal joined our family as well. She is a doll baby, but is splay legged. She was probably not hatched this way, but due to substrate or some other reason unknown to anyone, has since suffered a splay legged condition which will never correct itself at this point. We are unsure of her age, and only know one thing, she is a sweet and precious angel that we could not do without. She is predominatly my husbands' bird, and sleeps on his shoulder every night, and even travels with us whenever we leave the house on outings. She is very healthy and has since stopped plucking her chest feathers. She came to us from Michigan.
We also have others such as Michelle, was thought to be a Mikey but we soon discovered that was not correct, as its a ,"she" and she is a hoot. When she wishes to go a certain direction she will point her foot in that direction... She is a red lored amazon. Her personality is a bit fiery. She has a horrible temper and will bite unprovoked. We still love her and would never ever consider parting with her,no matter what. It takes a special person to handle these birds that have been through so much physical and emotional abuse. we are also not sure of her age, so we just love her for her, and she does not talk.
We have a goffin cockatoo, Casper, now known as Angel. She joined our family in March of 2003, and has since also stopped plucking as well. She has a seizure disorder but we have learned to cope with this as well. She is a very aloof bird, but warms to those she trusts and loves. We took her in from a family very close to where we reside. We believe her to be in her mid teens... a very young age for a bird indeed...
In July of 2003 we purchased a beautiful Senegal from a house in Nashville, Tennessee. Her name is Sydney. She is approximately 6 years old, and is a wonderful little bird.. We have loved and cared for this little soul for nearly 3 yrs. and would never under any circumstances give her up to anyone.
News to share: UPDATE
In November of 2005 I was sued for possession of Native Wildlife in our own hometown court system. I had to make my initial appearance in Mid December of 2005 and had to be in court in January of 2006. Thankfully, when it ended in court, The charges were dropped and all was done. I was relieved and happy to continue helping birds. The persons that sued me did not show up in court to press the charges that they themselves had originally charged me with. A happy ending to say the least....
Now back to the birds
We also have many others that are here due to similar circumstances and situations, and of course we love each and every one of them. We get calls all the time to assist, i.e. trim wings, trim toenails and help in emergency situations... We are always happy to help in any way possible...
In late Fall of last year 2005 a very dear friend of ours called me one evening at approximately 10 at night. I knew immediately it was very urgent, and of course I took the call.. The call was about a green cheek conure that had been involved in any accident and had its beak ripped away from its face from a cockatoo... An accident can happen in such a short time, and what do you do???
She phoned me, I advised her to wrap the bird up in a warm towel, and keep it warm, to control the bleeding using kitchen flour, plain cooking flour, and to bring it here immediately. She did, and once the bleeding was safely controlled, we recommended that she carry it to the vet the next morning, and to obtain medical advice to ensure the bird was going to be ok. We received a call later the next day that we had done everything we could do, and the bird was going to be ok, beak would regrow and all was well... that is what you love to hear....
More later......................................... please visit often....
