A little dream of ours had been to keep some hens in the garden. We were all set to buy some laying hens from a breeder, until we found out about 'spent' battery hens looking for homes. After speaking with other people who have adopted ex battery hens, we decided to adopt some too! On a cold April morning in 2008 we collected 6 beautiful ex battery hens from Free At Last hen rescue.
Ex battery hens make great pets, most still lay and are completely worth it so please dont overlook them if you are considering getting some hens yourself. You dont need masses of space, and you wont be contributing to battery egg production.
